  • Very Nice job! I am preparing this piece for a college audition and was surfing around try a video to listen to to get the feel of the piece and stumbled across yours.

  • How do you manage to play with your arms stuck to the side of your body?! You need to give your body space to breath. Aside from that, well done.

  • How long have you been playing? very nice job

  • The orchestra's playing different music than what's on the original parts. Do you know why?

  • @Starbirdy9999 Oh I know why. The orchestral introduction was cut a few bars...

  • A fun peace to play! I sway the same way when I play this piece lol good job

  • It seems like most oboe players sway around when they play...I will never understand why

  • @braids2go because it's so much fun! :D

  • great but what is with the dancing

  • I am playing this solo for NYSSMA!!!

  • Great Job! love to hear the other 2movements.

  • I play oboe as well. This is one of my favorite concertos- you performed it well :)

  • i play oboe also. not like this of course but its a great instrument i also play piano and french horn

  • Is it just me, or does anyone else think that if rock existed back then, Haydn would have been writing rock music instead of concertos? I swear, I heard Less Talk More Rokk somewhere in there!

  • He would have considered it to be old fashioned since it

resembles baroque music in many ways. That's what I believe anyway.

He certainly wouldn't have written this one tough, since he didn't even do it without rock music.

  • This is a good rendition, but the best version available is "The English Concert" with soloist-Paul Goodwin. The Orchestra and soloist are really hard to beat.

  • Great performance. Future principal oboe for a top orchestra? I think so.

  • very nice. :]

i have been doing oboe for one and a half years now and i`m doing another version of this piece for my 8th grade exam x]

  • very nice.. when i played this my favorite part to play was def the cadenza in the end of the piece, it was def alot of fun :p

  • i played this for my grade 8 so i'd be listening with a critical ear but i have to say... you're a fantastic oboist. You have such good finger control... even in the rising thirds in semi-quavers were spot on (i never really got that bit) but i occasionally felt you let the melody run away from you, trying to rush it maybe. Probably just nerves. But otherwise, an incredible performance.

  • i know the first chair cello. his name is simon lee.

  • i'm now working this concerto.COngratulations, it's a big job !!

Be careful to the "tempo" (how do you say that in english???)

  • my youth symphony is currently playing this! memphis youth symphony by the way, im a violinist.

  • I had to play this as a junior in high school on my conserve. oboe. I wish it came out more like that. Well done.

  • unbelievable. I have been playing oboe for a few years and I needed that to see how it is supposed to sound in the end.

  • Ah too bad they didn't play the last sixteenth note run with the arpeggios. Overall - Very nice playing.

  • omg I can't believe I came across a HYS vid on youtube. haha wasn't expecting that. i'm a bassoonist in the local houston area as well :).

  • What's with this Houston youth symphony? Are they top notch in the US? All I read is houston symphony!

  • ha ha the houston symphony is def awesome but i would compare the houston youth symphony with most all other youth symphony

  • Very nice! I love the cadenza! Too bad the orchestra wasn't keeping up with the oboist at all!

  • the oboist play very well but the orchestra don´t play it very well.look at the frst violins.

  • Way to go Houston Youth Symphony! Great job Colin.

  • Thanks, Brittany!

  • Hey guys, I have to play this piece to and I found out on the net that it isn't from Haydn. Just some other guy wrote it and put Haydn on top of it instead of his own name. nicely played though! :)

  • I read that too, it seems this was fairly common.

  • thank you for the feedback.

  • You play absolutely beautifully! It's a pleasure to listen to you play.

  • Thanks, you are very kind!

  • The parts in the flutes are not very well played, to be honest. I als think your intonation is sometimes not 100%. But a great perfomance overall!

  • Thanks for the feedback and kind words, I am always working to improve my intonation.

  • Great job! I am playing this for my exams, but it's for piano, maybe that's why my version is a bit different too. Nice job on the part where you go from the high D to central C at once, that's a hard one.

  • Thanks! There is more than one version. I memorized a different one for my audition! So if you play it as a concerto, make sure you know the version!

  • Hee, I'm studying this piece right now! My version is a bit different though, but this is a good example for me. You play very well!

  • Thank you, and good luck!

  • Having to stand there at the beginning like that must be pretty awkward. You have a good tone to the oboe, and your group sounds good.

It's a very lovely concerto. I still think Vivaldi's oboe concerto in b-flat still sounds better. :P

  • Thanks, I need to check out the Vivaldi!

  • Your video clip is great and I've rated it as awesome. Please check out mine on some 1920's trading cards of musical instruments, including the oboe.

  • You deserve them!

  • Wonderful. Absolutley wonderful performance. Though i wish there was more oboe in the beginning and less orchestra, but the orchestra part is improtant too i guess. I might try this on my oboe. Thank you for posting this video.

  • Thank you very much for the kind words, they are encouraging!

  • A friend of mine is studying this piece and it doesn't sound as good as your performance

  • thank you very much :-)

  • Nice work! My favorite was your cadenza! Keep on the good work! Best wishes from a Norwegian oboe player :)

  • thank you!

  • Very good. Thats a difficult piece. Why didn't you memorize it??

  • Good question, I had memorized the Rothwell edition for the audition, but the orchestra prepared the Koch arrangement, and there wasn't enough time to memorize the new version for the concert.

  • Oh. That's odd that the orchestra didn't prepare the one that you auditioned on. I've never of heard that I don't think.

  • thanks!

  • very good

  • yeah! i was there!

    beyond amazing.

  • thanks!

  • Nice. Where's the other two movements?
