I'm having some difficulty understanding why a bunch of non-cyclists get on their bikes to mob downtown streets. I bike regularly to work, and I do my very best to obey traffic laws AND be courteous to the other road-users. As they say, "it's a two-way street". If you're impolite and piss drivers off, the less mature ones will reciprocate randomly and on impulse... Not an outcome that anyone would intend.

They surrounded the car so it didn't become a hit and run...something not far fetched with these type of wrecks. The cop simply tried to alleviate any more problems, telling riders to continue on their route. The car didn't break the law, the lady did. She continued past the marked stopping zone.

The safest way to do this is that the whole group stays together. By this way they will cause will cause less harm to the other traffic. Car had the right of way. Cars aren't "oppressing" cyclists, cyclists just think they should have more rights. If you are on the road and riding a bike, you are legally responsible to drive just as if you were in a car (you need to follow the same rules/laws). Funniest part about this though is that this group has had multiple problems with cars hitting them or them hitting cars. Sidewalks and Bike Trails are good people, use them.

I'm a cyclist, and have been a truck driver stuck in downtown Minneapolis when these pricks would do this. I wanted to run them down so bad.... They wouldn't have stood a chance. But you know, vehicle homicide and all.

I bike a lot and I see bikers doing some pretty stupid shit. Bikes are legal road vehicles, that being said, bikers need to act like vehicles if they're going to be respected. When I'm on the road I act like I'm a car that stays in the first meter to the right side of the road. I constantly see bikes blowing through stop signs while there is a car waiting there to turn... It's just dangerous! You can't drive aggressively on a vehicle that weighs 25 lbs.
Just as the video starts, look closely at the traffic light in the center island just to the left of the red car (left from our viewpoint). The TRAFFIC LIGHT WAS GREEN for the roadway traveled by the red car, thus red for the bicyclists.
Those bicyclists were entirely at fault. Of course, bicyclists evidently don't feel they should obey traffic laws, so were entirely justified, from their perspective, in harassing the vehicle driver for not stopping for them instead.

Better proof is that the cars immediately at the left edge of the camera are stopped. There's nothing blocking the intersection in front of them. They're stopped at the stop line... because cross-traffic, *the red car*, has a green light. And all those cyclists ran a red and got hit for it.
Very true. Same with the fact that cars traveling in the same direction as the bicyclists don't start moving until just before the very end of the video. They waited prior to that because of the traffic light.

Cyclists ran a red light, the car had a green light and was attempting to go before the group of bikes were even crossing. 1)Traffic cop shouldn't even be needed if the driver stopped where she was supposed to.
2)They follow their line, and she moves in front of them, they can't stop in time.

I moved to Minneapolis almost 4 years ago. It is very, very common for everybody to run stop signs and often redlights too. I have talked to many motorists and bicyclists and almost none of them knows any traffic laws.
I ride a bicycle for many reason, but I do my best to follow traffic laws. I have had many people drive aggressive toward me for no reson other than just hatred.
On the other hand, I have had as many pont out that I am following laws and being respectful to all road users.

@Frostiken @Frostiken She wasn't needed in the beginning, the driver was supposed to stop. A group of cyclists this large and fighting for city funding aren't going to run a light and get hit. They surrounded the car so it didn't become a hit and run...something not far fetched with these type of wrecks. The cop simply tried to alleviate any more problems, telling riders to continue on their route. The car didn't break the law, the lady did. She continued past the marked stopping zone.

@KittyKranker In Finland and many other countries the CM is escorted by the police in every mounth. It´s safe and cyclists don´t have to ride against red light. The safest way to do this is that the whole group stays together. By this way they will cause will cause less harm to the other traffic. When the cars try to break the group, this causes chaos as can be seen on this video.

Car had the right of way. Cars aren't "oppressing" cyclists, cyclists just think they should have more rights. If you are on the road and riding a bike, you are legally responsible to drive just as if you were in a car (you need to follow the same rules/laws). Funniest part about this though is that this group has had multiple problems with cars hitting them or them hitting cars. Sidewalks and Bike Trails are good people, use them.

I bike a lot and I see bikers doing some pretty stupid shit. Bikes are legal road vehicles, that being said, bikers need to act like vehicles if they're going to be respected. When I'm on the road I act like I'm a car that stays in the first meter to the right side of the road. I constantly see bikes blowing through stop signs while there is a car waiting there to turn... It's just dangerous! You can't drive aggressively on a vehicle that weighs 25 lbs.

Just as the video starts, look closely at the traffic light in the center island just to the left of the red car (left from our viewpoint). The TRAFFIC LIGHT WAS GREEN for the roadway traveled by the red car, thus red for the bicyclists.
Those bicyclists were entirely at fault. Of course, bicyclists evidently don't feel they should obey traffic laws, so were entirely justified, from their perspective, in harassing the vehicle driver for not stopping for them instead.

Better proof is that the cars immediately at the left edge of the camera are stopped. There's nothing blocking the intersection in front of them. They're stopped at the stop line... because cross-traffic, *the red car*, has a green light. And all those cyclists ran a red and got hit for it.

2)They follow their line, and she moves in front of them, they can't stop in time.
3)They surround the car so she can't leave without running over them/hitting them once again. It's a common thing to flee from a bike/car wreck.

I moved to Minneapolis almost 4 years ago. It is very, very common for everybody to run stop signs and often redlights too. I have talked to many motorists and bicyclists and almost none of them knows any traffic laws.
I ride a bicycle for many reason, but I do my best to follow traffic laws. I have had many people drive aggressive toward me for no reson other than just hatred.
On the other hand, I have had as many pont out that I am following laws and being respectful to all road users.
