  • whoa I'm black ... and i acknowledge there were few better than pistol pete at this time cmon now he averaged 44.2 in college and was a pro legend ... but yes mj is better... but still he is a legend ...racism is not necessary

  • 5:50 ....no comments!!!!

  • The Greatest Showman Of All Time, "Pistol" Pete Maravich...

  • Maravich rarely dribbled and shot with his left hand. Guys like Jordan, Drexler, and Michael Ray Richardson would have exploited that weakness. I must say though that Pete had a better left hand dribble than the great Jerry West who had no left at all.

  • Nice song!!!

  • I HAVE BEEN IN LOVE WITH THE PISTOL SINCE FOR 40 YEARS!!

  • Lmao he was good because blacks were not allowed to play against him....MJ would shit on this cracka lol

  • @phudichat Damn right, white people are weak little bitches and have lower IQs than blacks

  • @TerrorWarrior5000 Go crawling back to your little cave in Blackfrica, you pathetic little junglebunny.

  • @phudichat Not true at all. You are an ignorant son of a bitch who should be shot.

  • Awesome.

  • You know your good when they let you have a nickname on your jersey instead of your last name!!!!!!!

  • audio ?

  • Pete was the best on the college level ; that's for sure .

  • look how skinny they all used to be!

  • :14 he was a beatle too!?!? what couldn't this guy do?!?!?!!

  • i dont think anyone from today would be able to handle that hes great. and not boring

  • The Pistol started what we saw from Magic then J Will & Nash. His Passes were sick accurate & his ball handling skills were 2nd to none.

  • @c2g1980 Technically, Bob Cousy started it all. He was the first to do that kind of thing. Then Pistol, then Magic. They handed off the torch to each other

  • sum of the things he did in his era were way before his time. This man is a beast and no matter how much ppl hate u can't take nothin' from him. some players are jus more talented than others. And im sure he's better than evryone posting bullshit.

  • Amazing

  • Thumbs up if you think Pistol Pete is the best player EVER!!!

  • @BaylorHbball he's one of the best. no one compares to Jordan.

  • My coach calls me Pistol Pete lol

  • Pistol would've made today's NBA PG's cry for their mommies. Forget how talented/skilled he was with the ball, he was 6' 5".

  • The Superb SERB Pistol Pete!

  • @barudzija7 I knew Pistol Pete was from a Yugoslav background. I have looked high and low and can't find any info about where his father or mother were from.

How do you know for sure that he was from a Serbian background?

I'm curious to know. Please let me know. Thanks.

  • @miles2057 there is a book i red about him and it said his father was an orthodox serb. his mother could have been croatian because there was a lot of mixed marriages at the time. drazen petrovic was from a mixed marriage. rudy tomjanovic that coached hakeem and the rockets is a croat and so is greg popovic. yugo is the best!

  • It's like I see Steve Nash 25-30 years back

  • favorite @4:18

  • Offcurse he is great! He is Serbian...its in his blood to be a great basketball player!

  • The greatest, most creative player ever.

  • magic b4 magic but could score

  • all time greatest white player !

  • @prvalinija obviously larry bird is the greatest white player?

  • @pppac131 Steve Nash is better than Larry Bird.

  • now tell me that white people cant play basketball...THEY CAN !!

  • how did my man die?

  • @toneremone heart attack

  • Check it out 6 year old crazy little ball handler!

  • I like this guy's ball handling, his movements, and how original he just played the game. I like how simple his movements look but has so many tricks in his play.

  • Really likin Pistol Pete

  • ricky rubio

  • pete maravich was the definition of streetball moves in the 70s and 80s

  • he looks a lil like ricky rubio... and they play very similar, ricky rubio the next pete maravich? thumbs up if u think so.

  • @salakerz324 are u kiddin me ricky rubio is not a good shooter, rubio is a good defender quick passes well, but is not a good shooter

  • Chris Paul is the 21st century Maravich

  • this is a real life ed monix from semi-pro

  • im not comparing the two at all.. but he resembles Ricky Rubio

  • @hiabish if anything Rubio resembles Pistol, and if you haven't noticed rubio career is declining ever since he was 16. the last year was a catastrophe. i am not saying he's not talented but i really doubt his ability to shine in the NBA with no 3-point shot and with a athletic abilities that are not that rare in the NBA.

  • saw a top ten nickname list, and pistol pete was number 2 on premiumsportsfan

  • Somebody said Larry Bird was a better player than this dude. Get Tha Fuck Outta Here!!

  • @DYDMAN how many rings did the Pistol have? Its like saying Dominique was better than MJ.....and I envied Nique growing up

  • Pete tu lui rajoute 25 kg de muscles et tu le faire jouer au All-Star Game en 2012 :)

  • pete maravich was a fucking pimp.

  • Wow. He was one smooth operator.

  • Pistol Pete was an entertainer like Allen Iverson with his crossover was for his generation. Both are unique and brought something new to the league.

  • Here Comes Ricky Rubio and a lot of fun for the T-Wolves.

I think we will be in for a treat when he comes to the NBA. If Pistol Pete was reincarnated it's gotta be this kid. Do a search and watch his highlights and you will agree...

  • I heard Pistol Pete at the 80s, when I was a kid.

I never saw him playing until I saw him on youtube.

He has so many crazy moves. Generally, one player has 2-3 good moves.

A good player may have 10.

He has 100-200 (it looks like he invent moves in real time).

When he pass, even the ball is not sure where to go.

  • An he's white.

  • 5:57 was the pass of the century

  • Pistol Pete rules.

  • Lol im sure some other players if not those would have come up with those moves..

  • the only one I didnt like was 6:34

  • look at those fundementals.

  • Cousy the originator. Maravich the innovator.

  • Wish you could put the music back on here, it made the mix

  • Fuck MJ. Pistol Pete was the greatest ever.

  • @nolano2010 Not the greatest... but definitely one of the most influential.

  • @Wtfbrolol so who would be the greatest then in your opinion?

  • @Us3YourNam3 i think pete is i mean he was a raging alcoholic and alot of people who played with him or against him say he was he was injured alot to he was ahead of his time there are videos of him somewhere of him doing 360 dunks he was amazzing

  • 6:09 wouldve confused the hell outta me if i was defending

  • the most creative player in NBA history

  • @bluebill0124 And that's without even starting on Steve Nash's game... Damn!

  • Song suggestion -- "Tales of Dusty and Pistol Pete" by the Smashing Pumpkins

  • pistol saved the nba becasue he made the game a show and the aba was like that without him nba would have lost there fans and lost money and would have been taken over by the aba thanks pistol R.I.P

  • @RoboRoadKill Your whole statement about Pistol saving the league is an assumption on your part, and your assumption is incorrect. He truly was exciting and an attractive draw, but he was not the savior you make him out to be. I have followed the NBA since the mid-60's and I can tell you he never was THE top player in the league.

  • @emmettk well you must have not heard how well the aba was doing back and it wasn't all him that saved the nba but he was a big part and yes back then he was the top player but near the end of his career he started to slide i really dont want to argue about it you have your opinion i have mine.

  • @RoboRoadKill Not only did I know about the ABA, I attended plenty of ABA Nets games as well as NBA Knick games at that time.Yes,you're right, opinions are opinions, but facts are facts. When you make declarative statements about an individual singularly saving the league and being THE top player (when I suspect you weren't even alive at the time), you should expect to be called on it. I am finished with the subject

  • @emmettk you are trying to go out changing my opinion on it thats your opinion NOT MINE! end of subject.

  • 6:07 is pretty amazing too

  • the two clips after 5:54 are fricking classic.

  • Perhaps the craftiest ballhandler in history!!

  • Perhaps the craftiest ballhander in history!!

  • He had a sick crossover.

  • Well... at least I'm not listening to Creed

  • 56 people got their ankles broken by Pistol Pete.

  • The behind the back pass at 4:18 is amazing.

  • Pete was certainly one of the most entertaining and exciting players, but as far as being the "Greatest", at no point during his career was he "the" best" player. Trick ball skills don't mean championships. Anyone who claims he played defense wasn't around during his playing days. An unstoppable scorer when he was hot, but even his fantastic passing skills lead to far fewer assists than you would have expected. (5.4 a game). There are too many all-around players to even place Pete in the top 20.

  • The only white man too be invited to be a Harlem globe trotter and that's when they were in their prime, he turned em down too. Pete is the best with out a doubt He had tons of assits rebounds had 28 fifty point games with out three point play. He breathed basketball, and he COULD PLAY DEFENCE he rules the courts

  • Michael Jordan ending up having the best statistics of all time technically making him the best player. But the best basketball player to ever step on the court was Pistol Pete

  • @billythefreewilly81 speaking of MJ, Pistol Pete introduced his son to MJ at the '87 NBA All Star Game.

  • @billythefreewilly81 How is that? Pete was a great player but he was also a liability when you see his defense. John Wooden was friends with Pete's father and told him "your son is a great dribbler but he won't ever win a championship because he doesn't play defense". Being that his defense was atrocious there is no way he's the best basketball player ever. The best ever were complete players like Jordan, Dr.J, magic, Bird, Kareem, Russell, the Big O, etc.

  • @keeohn I've got to call u on this one. Put Pistol on any 1 of those teams. You speak of his defense being " atrocious," when the fact of the matter is that the only thing that was truly, truly, truly, "atrocious" was the teams he played for. Pete wasn't called the "Franchise Savior" for nothing. He put ass's in those seats. He got pimped out by the NBA. Each and every guy you just mentioned had a crew of talent beside them at one point or another. Hence their championship(s). R.I.P.ete

  • They believe that he died from a disorder called Marfan its were have long arms or legs, loose joints, and a bad heart problem

  • I never liked Basketball, I though it was all the same oiled machine doing the same motion again and again. After reading Pete Maravich biographie and saw some movies and tribute I must say that this guy is a fascinating player. He played and tricked with the ball waaaayyyy above his time. For me he is the original. He would do faints that the crowd and even the camera would believe. How he was able to do so long and so good in basketball with his hearth disease, we'll never know. Rest in peace.

  • Weres my sound

  • without pistol pete there would be no crossovers, crazy assists, pivot fade aways etc

  • @Livinglifehigh That's why Pistol Pete inspired Iverson, Tim Hardaway, Wade, Chris Paul, etc.

  • @vietorkorean Okay little communist bish i bet if i played you 1 on 1 it would be 60 to nothing if you got nothing good to say dont say it

  • @heatblast900

uhm i live in South Korea not North, but it's ok, i don't expect ur stupid inbred trailer trash head to know any better

but i never said this guy wasn't good ok? i said he is an effective player, sure he scored a lot of points but was very boring to watch...

and i doubt it would be 60 to nothing if we were to play, the most likely scenario would be my nuts in ur face with every dunk and block

most White kids i've balled with have no hops at all, except for the Russians...

  • @vietorkorean Pete Maravich, the Steve Nash and Jason Kidd of his day.

  • @kimv020887 i prefer: steve nash and j kidd, the pete maravich of today

  • @vietorkorean so, you're one of those dumb monkeys that gets excited by things like, jingling keys? bright lights? and guys who can dunk without jumping repeatedly stuffing the ball in the hoop?

skills don't excite you? the best dunkers in the nba are people like josh smith, jr smith, shannon brown and other marginal basketball players that never help their teams win...but i guess that's totally dope dood!

  • @banklikefrankwhite1

yea that's totally dope for me, now fuck off u lil no hops having white bitch!

  • @vietorkorean lol, if you're asian, there's a 100% chance that i can jump higher than you. noimsayndawg?

    sheeeeeeeeeiiiitt...

  • @banklikefrankwhite1

r u for real? I don't know if u been around lots of Asian or not but generally when it comes to hops and agility, we're much better than u guys. I can always out-rebound my White friends.

i'm 5'9, don't even work out, and can hang on the rim. beat that?

  • @vietorkorean jumping, no, agility, yes

and no, i can't beat that...only match it..

i am also 5'9, do not work out, and can hang on the rim. have even dunked once by way of a perfect alley oop pass and the highest jump of my life

  • @banklikefrankwhite1

well if ur being honest, then ur rare for ur race...

I, however is the norm for my people. I believe the average verticle leap for a healthy Asian male is 30 inches...

  • @vietorkorean no reason to lie, i was surprised myself since i've gained about 50 lbs in the last two years, and hadn't played competitive basketball in like 8 years...but i've been playing again lately, and can still do it

i'm about 1 inch short from a stand still jump

anyway, everyone in the nba can dunk, so it gets boring to me..there are many phases to the game

why only enjoy one while making racist comments about the others? you telling me bird wasn't great because he didn't dunk much?

  • I find playmakers like Magic Johnson, Penny Hardaway, and Pistol Pete far more entertaining than someone like Blake Griffin who just throws down dunks all day. Cross court bounce passes through traffic, no-look passes, over the shoulder passes, etc. Dunks are cool and all when it's over someone but all in all just not as exciting and a masterfully executed play imo.

  • @Dystopia1980

well, i just think that skills could be obtain over time through practice but hops is a god-given thing, u either have it or u don't. Sure jump work-outs could help, but not a whole lot.

However, i do have to agree that some masterfully executed play is very entertaining to watch...

so yeah, to each his own. =)

  • He was one of the best ever. No one one passes like that anymore.

  • @claymayo Jason Kidd and Steve Nash can still pass the ball the same way Maravich (R.I.P.) did I think.

  • @kimv020887 They are two of the best today (as well as Chirs Paul and Jason Williams) but they are not quite on the same level as the Pistol. He created optical illusions on the court, and could find anyone on the court any time.

  • @claymayo well Jason Kidd said on Vintage NBA years ago that Pistol Pete inspired him.

  • He was racist... : ( called a black pro the n word straight to his face

  • creed sucks

  • overrated

  • youtube screw u for taking the song off the vid

  • I attend his camp in 1971 at California State college in Pa. He was great in person Pete , his dad and the staff made each camper feel that week the they all left with a piece of pete in their game.

  • sorry OnParr but im gonna rip the video and upload with music

  • He did those drives before the NBA allowed all those extra steps.

  • 3:23 ohhhh thats sick

  • with him and nate archibald on a team passes and assists could come from anywhere

  • Without PIstol, there's no MJ's up and under flip shot..

Without Pistol, there's no Kobe's spin fadeaway jumper.

Without Pistol, there's no Rondo's spin fake layup.

    Without Pistol, there's no Magic-style no-look behind-the-back pass.

Without PIstol, the NBA would be as boring as hell.

  • @bluebill0124 ....Do you think RONDO/ KOBE/ or even JORDAN ever saw footage of Pistol Pete???....The NBA was DYING in the 1970's,...until MAGIC JOHNSON AND LARRY BIRD changed the culture of the game.,...I still got love and respect for Pistol Pete though.

  • @bluebill0124 Jordan said without Davild Thompson and Julilus Erving there would be no Michael Jordan. Not Pistol Pete

  • Comment removed

  • @bluebill0124 Without Pistol, the NBA has been boring as hell.

  • @hogwild6161 ...........................because lebron, kobe, Dwade, melo, rondo, chris paul, Drose, Dwills, steve nash, Shaq, Dwight howard, Blake Griffin, tyreke evans, vince carter, kevin garnett, reggie miller, ray allen, kevin durant, russel westbrook, paul pierce, john wall, amare stoudamire, andre iguodala, rudy gay, mike beasley, lamarcus aldridge, brandon roy, steph curry, monta ellis, gerald wallace, zach randolph, josh smith, joe johnson, steven jackson, danny granger, are boring

  • @bluebill0124 What made Pistol Pete so amazing was it all seemed so effortless when he did it.

  • @bluebill0124 rondos spin fake is the dream shake by hakeem

  • @bluebill0124 Without Pistol, there's no basketball

  • @bluebill0124 He's a good player....but the impacts u named are prolly exaggerated.....I'd say he wasnt even close to the top ten greatest of all time....Larry Bird was much much better than Pete....I've watched alot of these legendary players played live (like courtside live)....MJ, Magic, Bird & even Dr. J.....Pete's influence was not like wat u've mentioned....

  • @bluebill0124 I don't believe the NBA would be boring, because you had Frazier, The Pearl, Dr. J, Chamberlain, Oscar & Jabbar. But Pistol was damn, great.

  • @bluebill0124 im guessiing ur white?

  • @breezy646 Actually no. Guess again :)

  • 1,200,000th viewer! where do i redeem my cookie?

  • Several years ago i remember there being a mixture of songs on here with Creed, ZZ top, Green Day, and Aerosmith

  • put a song onnnn

  • @templenamanny REALLY?!?!

  • i think he would be effective in the game today if he learned a bit of the modern game.

  • Cont. Pete should have started a revolution in the game, like his contemporary Julius Erving, but coaches wouldn't stand for it. It's unbelievable that no American white player has followed in Pete's footsteps. And remember: when he played they called "palming, " so you couldn't cradle the ball when you dribbled, but Pete solved that problem by putting backspin on his dribble, so the the ball was like a yo-yo in his hands. Like Magic said: "[Pete] created "Showtime."

  • Here's a little history lesson for you young'uns: Pete was roundly despised by the basketball establishment in his day. Many Coaches, who all thought they were the next John Wooden (who actually admired Pete's game), hoped he would fail in the NBA. Pete was considered by many to be bust in in his rookie season when he averaged 23.2 a game on a veteran Hawks team featuring Bells, Lou Hudson, and Joe Caldwell. He was constantly attacked, instead of being treated like he icon he was.

  • at 0:12 seconds i opened a new tab to play "lose yourself" while watching this video. made it much more enjoyable.

  • Bonus money to poker website. Watch this video: youtube.com/watch?v=7Q7bUVhz-ko

  • he was be for his time... the begining of excitement!!!!!!!!!!

  • the original song to this video was the green day oasis mash up of I walk a lonely road. THAT fits this video nicely

  • Pete was an American. Actually, he was from Pittsburgh. Not a Serb. Go find your own champions if you can. Can you find one?

  • @holzg01 We dont need to look for them. . .All world knows for Milos Teodosic, Kecman, Divac , Bodiroga. . . should I remind you on 2002 year ?

  • Greatest EVER.

  • 1 of the best of all times

  • He has Serbian origin. His father was Serb.

  • @ApolloMP

Who cares if his father was from anywhere else. We don't care and we are Americans.

    Holzg01

  • @holzg01 get over your racism man... at least you should know that American race does not exist yet... wait some thousand years or so and then call yourself American !

  • this was under the "suggestions" part of youtube , and after watching it , I completely forgot what I originally came on here to see . Pistol is just that amazing lol

  • Genius

Pete was ahead of his time

  • this guy just J'd on everyone.. what a great player

  • Pistol Pete has arguably the best jump shot ever.

  • no sound

  • i feel deaf

  • @datuboa hahahahaha

  • @datuboa What?

  • why is there no sound

  • 0:15

    adam morrison?

  • whats the name of the song?

  • Comment removed

  • He looked like ricky rubio

  • @Lightning3695 i think u mean ricky rubio looks like pete maravich because ricky rubio WILL NEVER reached the level of pete maravich

  • @Lightning3695 don't be sacrilegious.

  • Needs music...still the best ever.
