Another author who has hilarious (if hilarious in a silly way) footnotes: Sean Cullen. (yay for Canadian authors!) He uses them to define words or phrases that a twelve-year-old may not know (such as muster or a stiff upper lip) and then makes up ridiculous origins for them. I really reccomend his (as yet unfinished) Chronicles of the Misplaced Prince series (in which the silliness stays in the footnotes), and his Hamish X series for younger kids, maybe ten or eleven.
any review is awesome that includes the word plethora! and then a mention of Good Omens? You pick up so many fabulous things to discuss - the cave part being dialogue only? excellent.
That was an excellent review! You know, "Katherines" wasn't one of my favorites - I love "Looking for Alaska" and especially "Paper Towns", but John Green's second book just didn't strike me the way the other two did. Now, thinking about it and having heard your take on it, maybe it wasn't as fluffy as I originally thought.
I also have a better appreciation for the book after hearing this review. I loved the insight about the dialogue and the footnotes.
I still can't figure out my order of favorites for John's books. "Alaska" my favorite, but the other two sort of hang perpetually in a kind-of-tied-for-second-place limbo.
I was kinda worried about watching this review considering that I haven't read Katherines yet (it's the hardest to find here in the UK) but after watching this I'm definitely gonna have to search harder :D
The Fiancee is getting into Terry Pratchett, and I am sure to follow in her footsteps.
Great insight into the book-- I don't think you're going too far into it with your observations. Once I finish the doom and gloom of Looking for Alaska, this'll be refreshing for sure. : )
Oh, and my next video will be the fandom meme for sure, so keep an eye out!
Another great review, Matt. I love when you review books I've read, because you always pick up on things I never would have noticed, and then I can see it in a whole new light :)
I freaking love John Green.

If you enjoy the footnotes, I'm curious, have you read anything of the Discworld series.
