@TheIboy360 That's not true at all. Ships are allowed to carry weapons, most every ship has a store of small arms. The problem is that there are not extra crewmen on the ships. It is not uncommon for a thousand foot tanker to have a crew or 30 people. Small arms are not going to be much worth against RPG attacks.

In international waters you can carry firearms (and I have done) as long as you declare over the VHF what you are carrying as you enter a nations waters... If you dock in most countries then your weapons are taken into customs until you leave.

A bit of clarity here. There is no legal reason that the ships cannot arm on the open sea. they are entitled to defend themselves under the terms of many treaties. The problem is the ports of call. there is no "weapon check boat" that can sit off of the territorial waters of each nation and hold your guns for you while you make port. Many of the nations these ships call at have no private gun ownership of any kind allowed. This is the dilemma.

they need to armor sensitve spots on the boat, hire snipers, use longrange dissorientation weapons, and remember they'll kill you if you don't kill them. International waters means anything goes. Pirates heads are easily exploded with a .50 cal

most people dont realize that merchant marines are at sea for months at a time living with the same group of people. allowing seaman to carry guns would not be as beneficial as the typical person would think. i think they bring far more problems then they would do good. and what company is this ship operating under to where u can man the helm and also be outside filming pirates that are shooting at u.
