I jump best off my right leg, so I occasionally do right handed layups off my right leg. If I would go up with my left on that side, I would probably get my shot blocked. All I'm saying is that going off the same leg you are shooting with works fine. In reality it doesn't matter when nobody is between you and the hoop though...
