What if I wanna use the G-system or the Nova ONLY for effects, and use the distortion from my amp? I know the Axe fx have has the possibility to block out the amp part. Does this have the same option? Thanks :)
The G-System is only modulation and time-based effects, no overdrives are built-in to the unit...it's the perfect multi-effects pedal for an amp with an effects loop, not so great without an effects loop though. I don't know about the Nova System.
As far as i understood Van Halen had an original G-system running his gear on the last tour. So you can definitely get some of those sounds out of this thing

how do you tell which number that you own?,..i bought my red g-system/novadrive from PGS the day they went on sale....i run into a pair of mesa road king series 1 heads,2 mesa 4x12s,on top of 2 mesa 2x12s

That's why I love the G-System!
The only piece of gear more versatile is the Axe-Fx...but, it's much pricier, and you need a separate foot controller.
