The bigger question is the question of autonomy. Will the Sinhalese agree to the right of Tamils to have local self-government and the right to follow their own culture, religion and language? If the Sinhalese government agree to these principles, then I think Tamils on the island should respond in good faith and take a step forward. If Sinhalese government donot agree to this, then conflict is inevitable.
