  • The fill at 2:20-2:22:

Can anyone describe/explain it? Is it left hand and kick in some combination?

Right hand seems to be riding the cymbal during the fill..

    THanks.

  • @KapperDapper I'm just playing a RLL RLL RLL with left hand on the toms and hitting the kick same time I hit the ride cymbal with my right. In this slow time signature the fill would be notated as 16th note triplets. But because the right hand is playing a dotted 16th pattern throughout most of the song, is still a workout on the hats for the right hand even though the quarter note tempo is only something like 70-80bpm. Cheers, Dean : )

  • So... You are a drummer named "Makus Dean" right. Btw good combing the style. love your Chanel.

  • @theycallmephatphux Thanks. No, my name is Dean Wuksta : )

  • cool

  • Sounds grate !

  • @naedsukram: I love your snare drum sound! How did you get it that way? Do you do rim shots? What kind of snare do you play? No matter how I tune my snare, I never get a nice and kicking sound as you do!

  • @fretzmen Only occasional rim shots, mapex 13" piccolo snare, a lot of the sound is in the mixing, I have a close mics and a room mic picking up all the drums which helps to improve the sound of the drums. This was an early vid, so the sound quality isn't the best. Cheers, Dean

  • Music is the language of emotions, and in the same way that the elements of spoken language are misused in order to create lies and other bad things, the elements of music are misused to create false sentiments and other bad things. My christian goal is to find the absolute music of God´s kingdom in me, and the closer I get to my goal, the more I dislike both the old and the modern music of this worldly world. I learned about the elements and then I left it all for to develop on my own.

  • @mikilavush if god was real he would play funk bass

  • That's the truth, my friend. @slapmyfunkybass

    Dean

  • Herbie Hancock. "Actual Proof" on AzureBlooNotes channel.

  • Rockschool's Grade 8 Drum piece 'Some You Win' sounds very like this. You could also try 'Fusion' (with it's obvious sounding name) in the same book!

As for the video, it's awesome. I love the variety you bring to the song, while still managing to play accurately and sophisticatedly!

  • very tasteful

  • thanx fittygritty

  • I actually quite like this song! Good playing and great sound too!

  • Your Stuff sounds really good!!!

  • man, fantastic!!, but you changed the sound of the bass drum?

  • Long live the world of drums!

  • Great feel man, LOVE IT, super take. First Class.

  • your snare is amazing. your tuning is very good.

  • hey Naed.. i love your K custom Dark Crash..

    sounds awesome ..

    i have a K Dark Crash 17" also ..

Do u think there's any different with mine and yours?

  • Hi jc

yeah, I think mine is an 18", plus it's got a crack in it. Apart from that, maybe just subtle tonal differences. They're nice sounding cymbals though.

  • Agreed! K Darks are fantastic!

  • lol paiste rude in azz and funk and blues O.O where is the rude?

    XD

    nice drumming

  • You sound really nice man

  • thank mate....i should read the other comment...lol

  • i assume thats a wood 5/14 snare tuned slightly low, correct me if i'm wrong. and did you use any tape on the snare?

  • close, its maple, 13" piccolo, tiny bit of gaffa on edge of head.

  • Very good, I like how the snare sounds... you play it nice and your a very good listener. incredible man keep it up!

  • Thanks man, there's a bit of 'room' sound in the mix, which is helpin the snare sound.

    Cheers, Dean

  • correct me if im wrong, but that ride looks like a RUDE...odd for this style of playing, but certainly fits in well doesnt it haha

btw...looveee the grace notes round the 1:50 mark...great stuff ;)

  • Cheers! yes, Rude Ride/crash, quite 'pingy', no wash, good bell if u can find the sweet spot, more suited to rock.

  • which song is that?

    Name?

  • It's an original, no name as yet.

  • the snare sounds really really great !!! can you give me some info about what kind of snare/piccolo it is ...

  • thanx, it's a 13" Mapex maple piccolo with a coated sound control head, medium tuned top, very tight bottom head.

  • which drum is that?

  • ??? It's a pearl kit with a mapex piccolo snare.

  • Can't see any mics, how did you get such a great sound?

  • The kit is fully miked.

  • Great job hiding them. Non musicians often don't understand that you NEED mics and don't like the look of them on the set.

  • that's true but it's just the camera angle, but I did use sort of minimal mics here, u can see one 57 on the rack toms, there's also snare, floor, overheads, kick and a room mic.

  • great stuff!! i loved the fill at 3:16!

  • Really Excellent!!

  • Loving that snare!

    How's it tuned?

  • Hi,

Probably slightly below medium tuning on the top head for a piccolo and the bottom head is quite tight, snares leaning towards being a bit loose.

  • Your snare has the best sound ever. you have a great technique, and i love your drumset aswell!

    i'm subscribing to you man! :) 5/5

  • Thanx! I liked your funk groove!

  • Thats some jammin now!

  • great taste...great technique...great sound!! love it really...thanks for the inspiration!

  • very nice. clean and ambient sounds. very tight and pleasing to the ear. good job!!

  • Hi genusone,

Thanks for the nice comment, glad you liked it.

    Cheers, Dean

  • This is some smoking stuff! Love soloing over this, awesome! 5 Stars!

  • You have the best backing tracks on you tube - fuckin great - I love rapping to this - fuckin ace!

  • how many mics did u use?? really nice sound, great...

  • Thanx,

I think it was 7 including room mic.

  • Nice job! Here you have simple, uncluttered, straight forward execution. Nothing is impatient, tentative, or rushed. Tasty. Smooth transitions. Groove is king, man! : )

  • hi bogartroach,

    Thanks for the nice comment!.

  • man i really like this. Your playings real smooth on those hats.

What kind of set is that? Apart from the snare.

  • Thanx Armistace...it's a Pearl Session series, zildjian hats, K Custom cymbals+others.

  • good stuff man

what snare are you using btw?

  • Thanx! It's a Mapex 13 inch maple piccolo with a remo coated black dot head.

  • Oh, alright cool man. yeah i was figuring it was maple

  • Wow.

Nice beat and really nice sound.

You play excellent and have filling : )

  • Thanx!

  • this is great. i really enjoyed watching this, it's basically perfect.

  • Thankyou Kurama52, really nice comment.

    Dean

  • Nice playing man. I can see that the hihat is zildjian, but what exact make of zildjian is it?

  • Hi, New Beat 14 inch, they're quite old, like 80's

  • great grooves, keep posting!

  • Cheers,I will, Thanx!

  • how do you tune your snare? I have trouble getting a fat sound, it always sound choked.

  • the top head is medium tuned, bottom skin is a lot tighter. I keep tuning the top head till it opens up a bit and has a bit of a note to it. You just need to mess with it till it sounds good, some rooms make your snare sound flat. Keep trying. The snare in this video is 'compressed' and has reverb added, which also makes it sound 'fatter'

  • thanks for your help.

  • that snare is beautiful man

  • maaan nice snare!!

  • yeahh man

  • yeah, the rode nt4 and the nt5 pair are great great overhead mics. i mix those for about 80% of the sound. i've been looking at the nt2's.... haven't gotten one yet.... great stuff!!! cheers.

  • Hi purity4our11, yeah, I've got the NT2 and NT3 aswell, would like some of their NT5 pencil mics for a wider overhead sound. NT3 could have been better if it had a pad.

  • sounds fantastic, 5 stars from me!

  • You have a great drumming style and amazing sound. What type of mics do you record with? Thanks

  • Mainly 57s, this vid I'm using a Rode NT4 stereo mic as overhead, NT2 room mic. Cheers, Dean

  • Nice dynamic usage. Is that a Paiste Rude Ride?

  • how can i record audio and video at the same time using two diffrent programs. im using audacity for audio and just my webcam recorder software for video and i cant seem to find how to do it anywhere.

  • Very nice drumming buddy!

  • Hey

This is a fantastic video, i love the drumming a whole lot and i really want to do it for one of my performance pieces in the HSC.

Was curious if you have any tabs or anything for the guitar parts or anything like that.

    Thanks a whole load!

  • Hi sturicles, thanx for the nice comment, I dont have any tabs, but there is a downloadable MP3 link in the vid description. I'll send ya some chord help in your mailbox.

  • Cool

  • hey naedsukram, could you tell me what make all the cymbals you use in this video are please. Cheers m8, great video!

  • Hi nazzmeister, I'm using an 18 inch and 16 inch K custom Dark crashes,20 inch Paiste Rude ride crash, Paiste 6 inch splash, Zildjian 14 inch new beat hi hats. Thanx for the compliment, Cheers, Dean.

  • Hey man...I am ususally pretty hard on these guys about funk playing...but I actually like you feel...It not the best funk but I like that you support the music...I have played with some really good funkateers...and I think you feel put you in with some good company...It ain't funky but its feels funky...I have some drumless tracks if you would like to trade....

  • Hi Aaron, of all musical styles, funk is the closest description. Gadd is a classic funk drummer, it's what he 'doesn't' play that adds that intensity, and is often a straight ahead groove...."Funk de-emphasizes melody and harmony, and brings a strong rhythmic groove of electric bass and drums to the foreground". Sure, send a track if you like.

    Cheers, Dean

  • is that a paiste rude ride? bit unorthadox for bluesy stuff- tis a rock/metal cymbal. nice grooves BTW. more vids like this please

  • Hi Rory, yeah, Paiste ride/crash...it's much better suited to rock, been meaning to get another, but at the moment my 18 inch K Custom Dark crash has also cracked, so that wont be happenin for a while, as did the 6 inch splash.

  • no groove man!!

  • ur kit swnds phatt !!

  • Great playing!

What snare en what brand (& inches &...) do you use?

    thx!

  • hi azimitch, this one is a 13" maple piccolo by mapex.

  • thx man!

    keep up the good work.

  • nice, 13" snares are just the right size. I wish I could make up my own music to jam to! What you did sounds awesome. Which instrument did you learn first?

  • Thanx Bill, I picked up the drums first, then guitar a few years later. As a drummer yourself, youd have no problem learning another instrument. It's quite rewarding to create your own music.

  • Oh nevermind that's groove!

  • What's all playing?

  • What do you mean?

  • cool combination of funk and blues
