i also was very fortunate to be at this show and was blown away by this gem...the hip, are an enigma in most places outside Canada - a truly amazing live act that bring in everyoine that has the fortune to see them...
I'm not the biggest stereophonics fan, but the more I learn of them, the more I like them. And yes, I have only just found their video and it is a really nice version of this.
still blown away by this...a real moment, what a band, what a great gig.how they are not better known over here is and always will be a total mystery. cheers for posting the vid
A pleasure to post this. And I have to agree with you about not getting the credit over here that they deserve. I'm Irish and I only know about the Hip as I have tons of relatives out in Canada and have been going out there since I was 17.
Makes you wonder though, how the Stereophonics came to know them...did they play in the same festival in Canada, maybe? I reckon if the Hip were to get into the festival circuit here they would clean up...could you picture them at Glastonbury?
I came to the Hip via Rush (another Canadian band) and I know all of the Stereophonics are huge Rush fans too. So that's a possibility. Their original name was 'Tragic Love Company' named after some of their fave bands - a bit of trivia for ya there!
Was Stuart Cable at the London show? I've seen at various Hip and Rush shows over the years but not last night.
hey i saw them in glastonbury, 1993 i got into them through kelly and i had only just got the albums, they were on early and amazing. i used to play guitar with the boys and we used to play a load of hip stuff. great band. loved them ever since.
Yeh, does make you wonder. I hadn't heard of them till recently. According to a blog Kelly submitted to the Stereophonics website the Tragically Hip Hipeponymous takes him back 'a long way before the band got a recored deal.' Aparently they used to cover their songs, and had went to see them preform at Cardiff Uni. They were also origanally known as 'Tragic Love Company', inspired by thier favourite bands The Tragically Hip, Mother Love Bone and Bad Company. So must have been fans when young.

Just back from London....what a night! Probably the best Hip gig I've been to. Kelly Jones appearing was the icing on a very tasty cake :-)
