As much as Israel did not intend for this to happen, it would be justified even if it were intentional. Every 24 minutes, UNIFIL published detailed reports on Israeli troop movements, strengths, and positions. Anything new unfolding, they reported it, which was of intelligence value to Hezbollah. They put Israeli boys at risk, since they gave no similar information on Hezbollah. Israel would never intentionally target UN troops, but what they were doing was not right.
First of all, UNMO are apolitical. They don't take sides and report movement and activity on both sides. If Hezbollah or other illegal forces are monitoring communications then I suggest the Israel allow UN forces, both UNIFIL and UNTSO to have secure comms. In 1997, a UN element of UNIFIL was denied permission by Israel to use its SINCGARS, a system then Israeli SigInt could not monitor. As much as Israel did not intend for this to happen, it would be justified even if it were intentional. Every 24 minutes, UNIFIL published detailed reports on Israeli troop movements, strengths, and positions. Anything new unfolding, they reported it, which was of intelligence value to Hezbollah. They put Israeli boys at risk, since they gave no similar information on Hezbollah. Israel would never intentionally target UN troops, but what they were doing was not right.

First of all, UNMO are apolitical. They don't take sides and report movement and activity on both sides. If Hezbollah or other illegal forces are monitoring communications then I suggest the Israel allow UN forces, both UNIFIL and UNTSO to have secure comms. In 1997, a UN element of UNIFIL was denied permission by Israel to use its SINCGARS, a system then Israeli SigInt could not monitor. Perhaps a meeting in Tiberias should be called to iron out these 'issues'.

This was not the first time that fighting occurred around base and not the first near miss. If there was an actual desire to get the UN out of harm's way, they would've evacuated weeks before. UNFIL forces were not given the go-ahead to leave.
Additionally, you hear about Hezbollah holding UNFIL forces at gunpoint when UNFIL came upon Hezbollah arms shipments? This was an intentional coverup by the UN as well until the media got a whiff of it.

I've stated the reasons for this. The UN is needlessly putting their soldiers at risk. They are standing in the middle of Lebanese army, Hezbollah, and IDF/IAF forces. If UNFIL had a clear mandate to keep Hezbollah from rearming, then there isn't a problem.
The UN was forced to react to a report by the media when this story was leaked. If you read the links, you would see that UN reports regarding this Hezbollah smuggling incident were covered up.

The UN had plenty of opportunities to prevent the genocide in Rwanda, but rather were pulled out.

This paved the way for the UN, which couldn't have done any 'peacekeeping' if there wasn't any peace to begin with. So, these 'soldiers of fortune' paved the way, costing 1/30th the amount the UN was paid to keep the peace.
UNIFIL has failed in Lebanon for over 20 years in their deployment both after 1982 and after 2006, since Hezbollah is rearmed more than ever. So what's your point?

Many other armies in the past have made mistakes that have ended up in the killing of people they had no intention to kill. I doubt that Israel did it on purpuse, I think something provoked the Israeli attack, and they simply made a mistake. Although I support the attack on UN, because they are not helping a peace in that region, they often help an enemy, so if there a slight chances that Israel did in on purpose, then I think they did a right thing.
