i'll be 31 soon and not once have i ever seen this show on tv. i've always wanted to see it. but it might teach people something and they cant have that...brought beavis&butthead back though. i'm tired of this anti-intellect that seems to be everywhere now. everywhere in america at least.
@yinyangnature The same is for me. The children pick up the wisdom imparted to them by their parents, and build upon it. My Dad has traversed as far as he can. Now it's my turn 'till I one day have children and pass what wisdom I have to them. The continuation of the eternal way.
Perhaps when someone you care for is physically with you, you mainly have the dualistic connection. So you see yourself and the other as separate. But after their death, there is no more you and them: instead there is only you, but with that person's memories, influence, inspiration etc, as a part of who you are. Therefore the perceived dualism has vanished, and you are closer in some ways.
A cruel but weird coincidence, after I saw this clip a few hours later I was told of some friend of mine who got murdered by robbers, perhaps a message from the universe?
Very sad commentary from the chief and a deep/profound message from Master Kan.
This whole clip takes me back to a similar conversation I had a time ago with a what people would call a Native American "Shaman." But He wouldn't have called himself that.
People that see beyond separate material existence have been called many things throughout the ages. Shamans, mystics, sages, Saints, Yogis, Lamas, Buddhas, to name just a few. These days we would simply call them philosophers and in the case of people like Albert Einstein and Neils Bohr, theoretical physicists. In the end all these people were able to see past the illusion of solidness and see the fundamental emptiness that unites everything as One.
Yingyangnature, I am happy that you included such scientists in your analysis, many people over look the fact that the reason some scientists seek knowledge is the same reason many philosophers have sought wisdom. We wish to understand what is beyond ourselves.
Thank you my friend. I too am just as much a scientist as I am a man of Tao. For the Ego-less Fundamental Truth is the Ego-less Fundamental Truth regardless of how it is encountered.
If only more people had the wisdom of the end scene here. One of my favorites, too, and Kung Fu is the best overall show of all time to me. I watched it religiously and now have all of them on DVD.
Too bad Carradine had to die in such a way, no matter what the actual truth was.
I was at a dinner once on the reservation where Chief Dan George lived...One long table for everybody...And he was sitting at the opposite side of the table and slightly to the side...It's a nice memory I have.
Chief Dan Gerorge and David are now together in Heaven.
I met the Chief in 1973 when I was 14 yrs.
Not knowing I would also meet Mr. Carradine here in Toronto while working on the film crew for The Legend,Bless from all of us ,from the city you called 'my second home'...Tears and profound sadness..we will do our best.
This was a very poignant clip. What a great actor. The subtleties he added to the character of Caine were phenomenal. Thanks yinyangnature for posting the different Tao teachings with clips from one of, if not the best TV show of all time.
God bless him David Carridine s spirit lives on in all who he inspired with his wise nature and words i grew up with his inspiration his journey i will never forget him
When you think of it, Kung Fu, had very little action in it. It would seem strange that kids would gravitate to it, especially when you view it through the eyes of today's instant gratification junkies. But when I watch these clips, I realize what it is. We were on a spiritual journey with Caine. The show activated something important in us, something receptive to its message. I remember how calming the show was. Each episode was a kind of mediation. Thanks for posting these.
It is True what is written those who profoundly influence us even if their time with us is Brief there Inspiration is Eternal, David Carridine's Spirit is moved on to the next journey but his Influence is Eternal through his words and movies and tv shows he lived his life with Passion and Acceptence of both sides of his Nature, He will be Truly Missed...
From what I can pertain, the main story was sourced from a wide variety of writers. However, the Taoist philosophical content was written by a team of researches and the series producers.
He might have come up with the concept. It's hiw widow's version of the facts, denied by the show's producers Anyhow, what we've grown to love in the show is what Bruce never managed to represent: Serenity. Carradine was a much better actor than Lee would ever be.
Two beautiful ways of walking through the world, the Eastern Tao and the Native American.
Chief Dan George (Geswanouth Slahoot) of the Salish Peoples was in his 70s when he appeared here. If you get a chance to read his "Lament for Confederation", you will be blessed.
Thanks for the Chief Dan George reference. I looked it up, nice :-) Do you know of Chief Seattle's Speech in 1854? Ok, some debate on whether it was really Chief Seattle but all the same it is a beautiful text.
(Sorry about the first posting attempt, PEBKAC troubles with a Belgian keyboard, German locale and English text, yeah, I know...)

Bruce Lee actually created Kung Fu, with the intention of him playing Caine.
In the series, there was one main writer who wrote much of the good stuff. Next time I watch a few episodes, I'll check.
