Hey dood. I saw the same thing yesterday, I acually seen two of them. They were close but not touching the sun, and they were like sorta rounded rectangular shapes with part of the rainbow spectrum. But it was missing yellow/green.

A friend of mine who is a scientist stated its just the reflection of the sun off the water. And I live in Ontario Canada, surrounded by great lakes lol.

Yup... looks like a sundog alright. You see those often in the Artic in winter months. They are usually caused by different thermal layers in the atmoshphere. Usually there are two of them, one on each side of the sun, somewhat like a rainbow.

Man, you guys. Some of these comments are ridiculous. This is a totally normal phenomena called a Sun Dog. Look it up - you will find photo after photo of them. Or simply ask an older person; typically, they have seen them before, and would laugh at your 'sky is falling' mentality.

gongrats thats nice halo effect you picked up :) and you can even see the cold Cirrus cloud too. its rather common optical phenomenan usually with strong light sources and ice crystals in the air in this case the cirrus cloud that you see there. to the ufo and niburu shouters have you ever read a single thing about optics or astronomy... since the halo effects are kinda common especially where it gets cold enaugh to ice crystals to form in atmosphere, in this case london.

If I had to guess, I would say its the brown dwarf that is suppose be coming towards us, it's not expected to be at its closest point until the year 2012 but most people say you should be able to see it in the sky as a second sun sometime in the year 2009. The Brown dwarf is believed to have 5 planets orbiting the giant one being the so called Nibiru or planet X.
