They don't annoy me when I am trying to catch bait. They do suck when you are trying to catch redfish and other bottom feeders. It really sucks when you hook a big one on a surf set-up.

I prefer more guides, the spinning versions snap between the guides when you put this much pressure on them.

@BlacktipH the only problem with using a casting rod with a spinning reel is the guides can come out of their sockets when you put to much preasure on them, you shouldent have a problem with the rod snapping, it all has to do with the way the rod is built.

You can't have one combo catch everything. Your not going to use a 12ft rod to catch stingrays and your not going to use a 7ft to surf fish. You need to have different setups for different fishing.

Your questions are very broad? What do you want to catch from the surf? How big of a shark do you want to catch?
