  • I took my module to Orielly's auto parts and they checked it for free

  • @dirtus11 Do they heat the module up to test it.It is the only way to correctly test it.

  • @richpin so the spark plugs is connected to the spark plugs wires to the ignition coil

  • @latalya25 yes

  • Good video, I too have worked anddone several repairs on mine as well, thanks for the good videos, very helpful, take care and Happy Holidays..

  • I would go with a BWD if not going with a Ac Delco OEM, I got BWD coil packs and they been working good. You might not have a Standard brand ignition module there but mine has the blue rubber terminal covers. Original is like a orange color, 1997 Saturn Sl2 209,500 5 sp manual.

  • That looks like a Standard brand ignition module, not to make ya worry rich but I had one put on my saturn and It went within less than a year, had them get me another one unopened, i installed myself and here it went in just a little over a year, I went back to my Gm original and its still working, out 260.00 that they racked me plus labor and towing (385.00).

  • Hi Rich,

is there any way to test just the module? similar to a Ohm test on the ignition coil?

Im in the process of trouble shooting my sisters car GM 3800 and would like to know when im trouble shooting.

    Thanks

  • @smazz104 There are some tests you can do they explain it in the haynes repair manual.

  • This video saved my hash today, when my ignition module went bad. Thank you so VERY much!

  • first start by taking note of which plug goes where before removing plug wires from the module

  • Well i went to the junk yard and cut the module connecter and re-wired it to mine and it worked. I still could not do it with out ya Rich. Thanks a bunch. I`m a great computer guy if you ever need tips with your puter. just shout at me

  • @MrRaiders6769 wow great news glad you got it fixed.

  • Hi Rich, I had taken off the coil and module and cleaned it very well then put it back together. Now the engine turns over but i get no fire. I`m getting over 8 on the meter from the coils. However i`m getting nothing from the pink wire on the connecter. The 10 amp fuse was shot i replaced it and still nothing. I think i damaged that connecter when i stuck the red lead in the pink slot. And no one online has it on line. The trouble codes are p0351 and p0352. Thanks !!!!!

  • @MrRaiders6769 After you replaced the 10 amp eis fuse you still have no voltage at the connector with the ignition in the run position.

  • @richpin06a correct i have no voltage or anything. Now i left it unplugged overnight to air out and i plugged it in then took off the position 4 and 1 coil wires and turn it over. I seen the spark for about 3 second and then nothing. Now no voltage from the pink wire and i have good current on the coil points. should i just go cut one from the junk yard and re wire it ?

  • is the ignition module like a distributor in old cars? and if it is to take the head off do you have to do tdc like when you remove a distributor with an ignition module?

  • Can these valves be adjusted on the s series dohc

  • @karlakatie2215 The simple answer seems to be no.

  • Just had had a tune up a couple weeks ago, and new timing chain and gear set, guides tensioner the whole nine, it was making this tapping noise before I did the chain job, but only when I gun the throttle really hard and fast, what I do suspect is a exhaust leak around the down pipe somewhere between the flex and flange off the manifold .just as a note ,I don't have any codes at all, but she hesitates ...thanx

  • Hey rich, I have a rather unusual problem with my s series dohc , I try to describe it the best I can, when I hit the throttle really fast , the engine kinda stumbles, and seems to almost want to stall, also there is tapping over the no. 4 cylinder, perhaps valve adjustment,or can they be done on the car? Any help would be great.... Thanx

  • @karlakatie2215 When was the last time the car had a tune up.

  • So could you give me a clue as to what make, model and year of car you are working on in this video?

  • @earthstewardude Sorry about that it is a 1998 Saturn SL2

  • i need help richpin06a i have a 92 mustang 2.3l and it has 2 coil packs on it the front one is making my check engine light stay on i can un plug it and the check engine light goes out so i replaced it plugged it back in and it is still doing it oh and when its un plugged the car runs good and no light plugged in it sucks please i need some help im thinking maybe the icm

  • @dupont4sure I have not worked on this car to know what problems are unique to it.

  • @dupont4sure i also have a 92, 2.3, 8 plug setup, i just put my car in the shop today and found out the ignition module is the problem. what are the symptoms your car has? i may be able to help.

  • @blackgaymidgetjew i already fixed it it was the icm thanks anyways

  • @dupont4sure what did u use to transfer the heat to the manifold? mine had some white greasy stuff between the icm and the manifold, its old and no good now. if u dont put that greasy stuff between them the icm overheats and goes out faster from hat ive heard.

  • @blackgaymidgetjew yes you have to put that grease stuff on it or it will burn up quick i put it on mine

  • HELP!! 2000 saturn LS1. No spark plug wires on it. Loss of power. Gets up to around 25 on the road, but up hill 5pm maybe. Engine vibrates and has a go cart sound to it. My husband replaced the spark plugs and ignition module. Could it be the ignition coil itsself that is going bad? Oh catalytic converter gets cherry red. 300 code, so we know it's a misfire problem.

  • @pris72 Double check that the spark plug wires are on correctly. Also have you ever replaced the engine coolant temp sensor. What was it running like before this work was done.

  • @richpin06a Car was running perfect. It happened suddenly 2 miles from home. Check engine light came on and car lost power. Wouldn't go over 25 mph. Friend put a basic tester on it, and it gave the PO300 code. My husband said the car doesn't have spark plug wires. Someone told me that it sounds like the ignition coil. engine vibrates and car sounds like a go cart when you rev it up.

  • @pris72 Sorry about that i though you had a SL1 did not see you had a LS1 which i have not worked on.That being said it sounds like you are only running on 2 or 3 cylinders and if it was a S-series Saturn i would say you could have dropped 1 coil but on the LS i do not know.

  • I wish to god some one would show how to do this in a 93 chevy lumina

  • I wish to god some one would show how to do this in a 93 chevy lumina

  • that job is so easy on the saturn i had to do it on a few saturns.

  • just use a hammer. Its alot quicker

  • I have a 95 monte carlo 3.4 ...is there a simple way to remove the coil pack module..what symptons occur that can prove you need a coil pack module..I had the coil packs replaced but not the module...The engine dies after running about 10 minutes and do not start back up..could that be the module...

  • @jayceexx It could be a bad module,i am not sure how prone the modules are to failing on the 3.4 though.

  • So listen I don't really know much about cars but I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. I had to replace mine and thanks to ur video I got it done by myself. Put it this way. I had no idea where it was in the first place. Thanks so much

  • Fantastic videos, thanks for all the help :)

  • Hey Rich,

I will offer a tip to diagnose this problem, I had a V-6 ,96 Firebird that had one coil not firing, ended up checking the spark on each cylinder, then moved the coil packs around to determine that the coils were good , but the location on the module was not good, replaced the module and it now fires on all 6 and this problem was found without a helper or an OBDII scan tool. Thanks for your automotive videos! It helped to remove the fuel pump relay while testing to keep the plugs dry

  • I'm Rich Bitch! Thanks again for a great instructional.

  • Hey Rich, how do you check the resistance across the primary windings of the coil? I thought you measure across where the coils plug into the ignition module, but I'm getting only 0.5 ohms. That's not what is specified according to the Chilton's repair manual.

  • Thank you very much.

  • thanks!
