As the people united, forming cities and nations life has become more comfortable. Shouldn't we try and unite more instead of dividing...?

I agree. This concept of 'freedom' is what is imprisoning you. Culture is fluid and very little can stop cultural integration, especially with todays technology and material conformity. There is no perpetrator of this, it is the way the mind works, culture is education through the languages of the world and the more we engage with influences from other regions the more integration occurs. Nationalism and self-identification with the super-ego are chains and bars, not freedom.
