  • You may have eliminated foot hold traps but I don't thing that that you will ever eliminate bear trapping completely. And the reason that maine allows bear trapping is because we have one of the largest black bear population in the states.

  • Oh yeah, We can still trap and hunt bear!!! Yayyyyyyyyy!!!

  • Where's your trap???

  • i hate vidoes like this and ppl like u

  • grow a pair of balls animal activists if you want food to survive you can do what you want

Another Queer video by this user. Check out his "Modern Bear Trapping" for more anti-hunter/anti-gunner/anti-USA/Anti-Death penalty/ anti-white/ anti-christian/ well, i should stop before I go on a rant :P fuckin tree huggin' Prick. Thanks to all who support trapping, fishing, and hunting.

  • Queer video, hug a tree and grow ALL your own foods, nice leather sneekers 2 face. Brunswick, Maine

  • MMMMMMMM Donuts!

  • Your're probably dumb enough to believe that crap too. PETA- People Eating Tastey Animals

  • You Spelled "TASTY" wrong.

Sorry But Animal Activists Will Own Animal Killers Asses.

    Deal With it.

  • "Sorry But Animal Activists Will Own Animal Killers Asses."

Think so? If it was so then your "WILL" would say "DO"

Mankind has killed and eaten animals since the beginning of our existance, thats why God put them here. Im not gonna get into the whole "im gonna argue on the net and see if I win" spill. I hope you enjoy a nice TASTY steak soon! Oh and Im truely sorry that you weren't brought up any better and your parents don't love you. LOL!

  • Just not willing to make up the tax dollars lost to the renewable crop hunters and fisherman pump into OUR special programs you people run around giving away, deal with it,and get a job. By the way how are your leather shoes and farm raised foods?stay inside where nothing will get you Bambi.

  • This is a ridiculous, idiotic video. A horrible misrepresentation of the truth. Educate yourself before stepping into a topic that you are ignorant about. Trapping is a nessecary tool for wildlife management. It shows that you haven't done your homework.

  • Are you sure your not afther a cop

  • that is just a bunch of made up bullshit!!!

  • what the fucking hell was that??????????

  • man i wish we were allowed to trap bear in massachusetts.

  • As long as the animal rights extremists continue to post videos such as this one...bear trappers have nothing to fear.

  • Im a 16 year old bear hunter-ive been hunting since i was 10.I'm going to take my guides test this summer.I dont think that any one understands how much work goes into this, you dont just stick a box of donuts out there. And i also dont think that anyone realizes that for some people their only income is from guiding-including trapping. The antis want to"follow in the footsteps of the rest of the country"-I know my mother always taught me to stand out from the crowd-NOT FOLLOW IT

  • right on im 16 to and i live in misssouri i run traps everyday during the season and the fur check at the end of the year is my income for the winter months you have to realize pretty much alll the people that geet on here are from the city and are dumbasses

  • Facts -- Referendum pushers claimed they were only interested in banning methods that are (by their words) cruel and inhumane. The leader of the group behind the 2004 referendum hsus says "If we could shut down all sport hunting in a moment, we would." The hsus has backed court injunctions to prohibit all bear hunting in NJ, irrelevent of method. The hsus has stated that they believe all hunting is cruel and inhumane, regardless of method.

  • The reporter who visited with me today also asked me to describe some of the most horrible things I've ever seen as a bear trapper. He acted in disbelief in what I said. But he knows from looking at trapper websites to know that I say it like it is. He looked on the wall of my office and saw the paddle that was given to me by the Grand Lake Stream Guide's Association in 2002 that says, "Many Thanks to the Man Who Has No Secrets." Now that I've told the "secrets," they hate me for telling them.

  • Rest assure, if there was a single person in all of Maine's history that was harmed by a bear, it would be front page news. The teenager that was slightly scratched was in the news for weeks. It is the minority group of people like you who feel threatened that lie. Why don't you address the merits of bear trapping instead of avoiding the subject, as you just did.

  • I always thought the most harmless creature would be the cottontail rabbit. I've never heard of someone being attacked while video taping the cottontail.

You anti's will say anything and present them as facts.

  • Neither IF&W, the MTA spokesperson or any bear trapper, past or present, can defend this cruel and archaic practice -- and that is why they don't try to. The only defense they offer, or even try to, is that the abolishment of bear trapping is step one to abolish all hunting in America. How absurd. What fool could or would believe this argument except a fool. Bear trapping needs to be buried like the traditions of wife beating and dog fighting.

  • In all of Maine's history, not a single person has been harmed by a black bear except for the one instance in Standish where a teenager tried to take a closeup digital photo of a mother bear with two cubs. Even then, he was NOT harmed but merely brushed on the forearm with the swipe of her paw. Stop vilifying the most harmless creature in the Maine woods. Even a mouse will bite you that's still alive in a trap.

  • Evidently daryldj you don't know the difference between "facts" and a "spoof". Just like the general public. You see nowhere in my post was the word "facts" ever mentioned. It was actualy a "spoof" devoid of any facts, but fully intending to sway someone on the fence on the issue.

The internet can be a very powerful tool, that's why you are using YouTube isn't it, and facts need not apply. It's all about who can create the best "spoofs".

  • In other words, antisgohome, with you, facts have nothing to do with anything you say.

  • Anti's you espouse the things you say as facts. We show this vid as a spoof. I don't think you understand the difference, but why am I not surprised with what you stand for.

  • What's facts got to do with anything....does the word "SPOOF" mean anything to you?

My brother in-law works for Dunkin Donuts corporate office....I e-mailed him the link and he's not amused that you're using a copywrited logo in your political ads.

  • antis, show me where you get these "facts" Rabies in bears is unheard of. Bears attacking children (or anyone) is not up 65% anywhere they stopped bear trapping. This is just all made up I believe.

  • Since trapping has been stopped in many states by antis the occurance of animal attacks has gone up 65%. Rabies in small animals has tripled over the past seven years with the occurance of small children being attacked and bitten in their own yards up 85%. Without a means to control populations Maine will end up like my state with rabies outbreaks moving into urban areas forcing kids to stay inside during recess.

  • 24 hours and no defense of how bears are trapped as the real video shows. That in itself should be damning enough for those few who are on the fence about it.

  • Wow, we've had that real video posted for 12 hours so far and not a single one of those "humane" bear trapping supporters have defended their activity since. That pretty much says it all!

  • Everyone can judge for themselves how accurate the states description of "humane" is. They lie and the Committee backs them up. I'm going to love hearing the spin about why this vid isn't real! Lie away, guys!

  • The real video of bear trapping in Maine is now posted. This is a graphic and disturbing video of bears being restrained and killed. Look at the "More From This User" tab. It is video of several bears being killed after being trapped. We didn't have the time to show how long those bears were in the traps, struggling to get out, until the "trapper" came to kill him. Note at the end the bear dies facing the white bucket of pastries, grease , etc. that were used to lure him.

  • Of course the bill hit a hole, panther. We have an IF&W Committee who represents 1% of the Maine population. Bear trapping will end, don't you worry. Oh, and I'm not from Mass and my grandfathers best hunting and fishing buddies were Ted Williams and Bud Leavitt, all three fair chase hunters who would never agree with what goes on in the Maine woods these days. My grandfather supported my views strongly before he passed on and he was the person who taught me to hunt.

  • Aw, panther, we just like to keep you coming back and making stupid comments. It does our heart good to let others see what you espouse as a philosophy. The vid will be on and people will get to judge for themselves. It will be more than one bear killed in a trap as well, since you guys will do everything you can to try to mislead the public into believing that what the vids show are not what real bear trapping is. I think the public will decide for themselves.

  • Daryl, I see the bill hit a hole when it got outvoted...

Looks like we're headed for another battle like 2004...Or the staet could just tell you to go back to Mass...That wouldn't be too bad either.

So, where are your facts? How about some stats? All I see on here is a solid case by Tim4Trout about how trapping IS ethical, and some light being shown on what appear to be a majority of lies.

We're not as stupid as you city-slickers seem to think we are.

  • The facts are William a.k.a LucretiaSuzy that there are appx. 824,000 registered voters in Maine. The 2004 turnout was 59% (486,160) The record turnout is 73% which for 824,000 voters would = 601,520. To get to your PPH claim that 700,000 would vote to ban bear trapping, a record turnout of 85 percent would be needed with all voting to ban it.

  • I love the talk from the anti's!!! WHat a joke!!!! Proposterous claims of a video, which they have been rpomising for almost a week now, and still none. Guess they can't find any illegal footage to post. Oh well, better luck next time...But my guess is, after this defeat you'll be gone for a while before we see your urban ways back in Maine.

  • If any of you care about the facts of bear hunting, bear trapping and bear in general, take a look see at Maine Today and the Reader Comments.

If you still wish to be the ostrich with your head buried in the sand of tradition, don't waste your time. You'll never see the picture.

  • Daryl, RandallJ and Lucretia, stop "threatinging" to post this "cruel video" and do it if you really have it. I am guessing you don't. More bluster and blowing from typical anti putzes.

Rural life management has no business being in the hands of urban concrete monkeys like yourselves. Why dont you concentrate on problems closer to home that you actually might have a clue about.

  • Don't worry, arlow, you'll have the chance to make your feeble attempts at defending it while the rest of the world gets to see what you do soon enough.

  • Ah,chubfisherman, you too need to learn how to read or at least buy a dictionary and look up the meaning of "spoof", that is, if you are "brilliant" enough.

  • Ahhh what a two-for! Talk about the evils of trapping in a cynical way, yet dress like a hunter and carry a gun! The dummies wont know the difference right? Trapping? Hunting? .... Absolutely brilliant!!!. I have thrown out my guns and traps and am planing to join their group. I cant fight such brilliant people like this for I am just a simple man!

  • Folks ... In response to comments by one "LucretiaSuzy" who claims "muskrats and beavers first twist their leg ..." I invite you to watch a brief video clip which demonstrates how swivels attached to a trapping set up prevent the binding necessary for alleged twist off to occur. Please search using the following tags "trapping fur hsus beaver" and watch the video entitled "Trapping Myth Debunked". Thank You

  • I have a video that was taken by a Pennsylvanian who hunted over bait and visited several bear traps. This video was shown in the Somerset County Superior Court at my request. The judge, now a Maine Supreme Court justice, watched about ½ of it and finally said after seeing the dead bear with a pipe in it's mouth, a hunter's hat on it's head, and a demeaning comment about Yogi as they shook the bear by the head, "For God's sake, let's give the bear a little dignity."

  • Lucretia, as I have stated, I have no respect for those who abuse their privilege as hunters, and give you people, who will take the most misleading clips, and use them against ALL hunters in general.

Tim, I like what you have to say. I found it sick that a group that claims they are "Friends of Animals" would post videos of an illegal poacher. I thought it reflected very well about what kind of people THEY are.

  • Just a few years ago the IF&W Committee removed the word "kill" from the hunting definition and replaced it with "harvest." I sat through the hearing and listened to my own hunting friends on the Committee debate whether or not this wasn't a deceitful move. What in god's name makes you people lie so much? Try telling it like it is - just once. "Harvest" is just a modern day word for "kill."

  • WHat in God's name makes you people want to question the will of God? Why would He have allowed us to develop these weapons, and to hunt his animals and not be struck down when killing them.

Why does He himself, when there are too many, kill some off, such as coyote overpopulations when they get mange?

  • Well, I'll bet, in other respects, you are more than willing to twart His will yourself. Care to give up antibiotics, imunization, surgery - maybe we're overpopulated and need to get the mange ourselves. Regardless of anyone's views on God, what arrogance to think we "know" his will - He allowed us to sin in the garden and has been kicking our ass ever since - how to understand that?? Better leave "God's will" to God; no copping out here - we "own" what we choose to do.

  • Tim4Trout:

Your comments about trapping sound so absurd that even the trappers who read them will be shamed because of your outright deceit. And if you WERE a trapper and knew something about the subject from experience, you would know that skunks almost always chew their foot off and muskrats and beavers first twist their leg and then chew the remaining cords and skin to escape unless they are quickly drowned. My son and daughter who went trapping with me cringed at what they saw in my traps.

  • If each and every person went out with a bear trapper to see what they do it would quickly end this discussion. They try to defend it by getting people lost in the tiny details. I can't wait until WAM posts that video so people can see what its all about. I know I don't wanna watch it.

  • There was an article in the Bucksport paper someone sent me just before the referendum about a bear with a missing foot found dead in a ditch during bear trapping season. It is in the paper if you want to ask them for that edition. Tim is just blaming people for lying when all people need is the truth to prove their point. These folks have no idea how the majority of people think. It's really sad.

  • Folks, See harvest -- defintion 3b : the quantity of a natural product gathered in a single season <deer harvest> <ice harvest> Replace deer with bear. Thus my use of harvest to refer to the total of bears taken is appropriate.

  • While trapped raccoons have at times been known to nibble at numbed toes (prevented by what are called "coon cuffs", trapped animals DO NOT chew off their feet, nor do they twist their limbs off as trapping opponents also try to claim. Swivels incorporated into a trapping set up prevent the binding necessary for twist off.

  • Folks, This attack is part of an overall agenda against all wild animal harvesting. Those who are here pushing to ban bear trapping are just as much opposed to other more popular bear harvest methods used in Maine, as well as the trapping of other species. If they weren't they wouldn't have also attacked baiting and hounding in 2004, and coyote snaring. In NJ their counterparts fight against bear hunting period, not just specific take methods.

  • Folks, the reality here is that I am dealing with those who have no qualms about lying and misleading to achieve their agenda such as passing off a dog that lost a leg in a vehicle collission as a "caught in a trap / lost its leg" poster boy to push an anti trapping referendum in 1996 in MA. When factions need to lie to achieve their agenda as these folks do, one should question the validity of their claims.

  • MTA's Skip Trask will also state that traps are selective even when he knows they are not. He traps in the marsh near our house and catches the same nontarget species that I used to catch when I trapped. And he just hates for me to tell the truth about the fall I caught 28 house cats and 3 dogs while trapping for fox, fisher and raccoon in the Augusta area. Trask was a game warden supervisor then and I was advised by the local game warden to kill the cats. Other trappers did what I did.

  • Maine Trapping Association spokesperson, Skip Trask, who happens to be my next door neighbor will attempt to make a case that the Aldrich cable snare is not a cruel device. What he will NOT tell you is that bear caught in the snare sometimes chew their foot off below the tightened snare and get away. I have used these cable snares and quite by accident caught three little cubs by the head. The trauma that bears go through in a snare is no different than what they experience in a steel trap.

  • Tim4Trout:

I would like to remind everyone that the record breaking number of signatures for the bear referendum were collected entirely by VOLUNTEERS. All these volunteers were Maine citizens--not animal rights activists from out-of-state. Gotta love the word "harvest." It sounds so benign, but it isn't. Trapping is heinous.

  • We will be posting a Maine black bear, trapped and being killed by a trapper, so people can make up their own minds. It will take us another day or so.

  • Tim4 is out of touch with what the majority of not just Maine, but the entire Uited States, feels about bear trapping and other egregious outdoor activities. Too bad, it just gives good, fair chase hunters a bad name. There is a whole hunting organization testifying for the bill to end bear trapping.

  • If people read the comments here they will see which side is arguing from the emotional standpoint. These people are afraid that they won't be able to kill things any way they want to anymore. Also, it seems like they are all ADHD because they can't stay on topic. Bear trapping, boys, that's what this battle is all about. Pay attention!

  • Tim4, A) availability of harvest methods have nothing to do with why states allow them. No other state allows bear trapping even though traps are available to them B) Ken Elowe, head bear biologist, publicly stated "there is no biological nor wildlife management reason to trap bears.

  • Folks, if you believe that those commenting here opposed to bear trapping have no qualms about other bear harvest methods or the trapping of other animals... THINK AGAIN. Proper wildlife management succeeds on A) The availability of a diversity of harvest methods, not just what is most popular. and B) Management through sound biological science, not via lies and emotional rhetoric pushed by radical factions opposed to all animal use.

  • In response to LucretiaSuzy

William, Thank you for the good laugh, it's been a long time, and I see you haven't changed.

BTW folks, In Maine counties where bears are most prominent and trappimg occurs, the referendum failed miserably. Only in 3 southern counties of Maine-achusetts where bay state transplants are plentiful were voters successfully duped by the hsus.

  • In response to Bastafarai

Half Truths ? Folks In 2004 I proved beyond dispute that A) The referendum was pushed by animal rights factions from outside Maine, (They have since admitted such), B) That bear baiting was indeed common years ago, C) How poaching footage from Oregon was being used in an attempt to wrongfully depict bear hounding; and much more.

  • Tim4Trout continues to lie and deceive. Bear baiter Yencha of Millinocket now claims that baiting is a wonderful thing because it attacts the bears away from where people live. Oh my gosh, what will these liars think of next to support their cruelty and lack of dignity for a big game animal that can easily be hunted by a true sportsman. Even IF&W admits to that and I have an Email stating so. In Maine, bear are primarily hunted and trapped by out of state trophy slobs who throw the meat away.

  • Actually it is legal to feed bears year around providing the bait is not put for bear "hunting." Putting bear bait out for hunting is allowed for 30 days in adavnce of the bear hunting season. The best estimate is that about 4 million pounds of bait is put out in the Maine woods annually. The bait, like frylolater grease, has chemicals that are harmful to bear and all of the other birds and creatures that feed from the bait piles.

  • Additionally, the State (IF&W) harps and harps and harps about NOT feeding the bear in their Bears In Your Backyard brochure. And yet they support trapping using bait. They also say in the brochure that if you feed the bears you will cause a nuisance bear problem. In some states such as New Jersey, it is a criminal offense to feed the bears and yet that is precisely what Maine advocates. In Maine, it is legal to feed bears for 5 months.

  • Over the years starting in 1958, I have trapped or particpated in the trapping of about 50 bears. Looking back at what I have done as a hunter and trapper, I must say it is absolutely the most cruel thing I've ever done. And I might add, I have 5 bear trapping videos taken by my trapping friends and if you doubt what I say, take a look at the videos. They are so horrible that most people I have shown them to or tried to show them to cannot bear to look at them.

  • My comment "show it like it really is" was referring to a question as to whether or not a real trapping video should be posted.

  • Don't give me that crap about out-of-staters or Massholes coming to Maine and trying to change our fine traditions. My family has been here since the 1600s and we all firmly believe trapping, all trapping, is totally barbaric. Bear trapping is right up there with the previous fine tradition of it being OK to beat your wife, your children, your dog. Cruel traditions deserve to die.

  • There's no economic boost from bear trapping. 130 bears trapped in a year is no boost.Might as well buy scratch tickets.

  • 1/3 of SAMs membership is "Massholios". Maine is changing for the better in so many ways. I live in Houlton and we need to change with the times, not try to live in the 1800's. Lack of jobs is from the mentality of not wanting to make positive changes for people.

  • Trout: Your half truths are ranting here as well as in '04. Maine voters spoke on the referendun which included baitng, hounding, AND trapping. This bill is about trapping only. Snaring a bear that struggles for 12 hours then gets shot by an ignorant excuse for a sportsman is the issue. Only state left in a Union that knows better. What a grand distinction for a State with so much sporting access that is unfortunately devolving in its sporting philosophies.

  • I reread my last post and I sounded anti-hunting, which I'm not. I love all my redneck hunting friends, they reflect the culture of Maine. Anti hunter, Massholios and other flatlanders keep invading and wanting to change Maine culture to make it a little Masshole, just like they want to make kids go to 50-kids per classroom schools... if Masshole is so great, stay there and leave the Maine culture alone!

  • I think posting that video will be the right thing to do.Trapping IS abuse, so any video showing trapping will show a trapper abusing an animal. If you have no coompassion for other living things you will never understand that and most people know that.

  • I meant like bear rugs and mountings for show, that's wrong.

  • Daryl, thanks for the free hunt footage in posting the video you promise us, even though knowing your crowd, it will be some trapper cruelly abusing the animal while it's trapped. I can agree with trapping, but trapping and abusing IS WRONG, and gut feeling tells me that's the kind of video your going to post.

What kind of a person would that make you for posting crap like that?

  • Also, to the person who posted about killing for sport being wrong, let me say one thing: I eat what I kill, so don't say I just "kill for sport."

What a lot of you people fail to realize is the economic boost hunting brings to this state, more noticeably Aroostook County. This not only greatly benefits hunting lodges, and the people that work at them, but local business as well. What you people do is just target hunting, you don't care if it puts people out of business.

  • You know everyone has an opinion. My opinion is if you haven't been there done that - you shouldn't have an opinion about it. Everything has it's pro's and con's. If you don't live in the state you shouldn't be here trying to change the laws.

  • For all who want to see it, we will be posting an actual Maine black bear in a trap with the "sportsman" doing what they do to it, before the hearing on Tuesday on this site.

  • I guess they don't understand, killing for sport is wrong. The only time this makes sense is in threatening situationns.

  • Thank you Artie. It is good that some people understand this.

  • Sorry, panther, this has nothing to do with ego, except from people who voice the same nonsense over and over because they fear change. If you know what a spoof means, then why do you post such ignorance? Your responses only prove our point. It's not about hunting. Sorry you buy into that rhetoric.

  • Poll: Should we post a real video of bear trapping for the public on YouTube?

  • Yes. Show it like it really is.

  • Hey RandallJ, it looks like there's a lot of these guys who need to buy a dictionary.panther doesn't know what a "spoof" means, either. I guess he doesn't know that Maine would be a very empty state if the people who don't like bear trapping left.

  • Daryl, before your overly-inflated head gets any larger and bursts, I do know what spoof means.

Just in case you don't know what any of those words above means, hears a translation: Your an asshole.

Maine might be a lot more empty if the people who oppose bear trapping left, but that wouldn't be a bad thing in my book, either.

Besides, we all know this groups main intent...To eliminate all hunting.

  • YES!!!

  • And this has what to do with bear trapping? Looks more like anti's showing no knowledge of hunting, at all...If anything, the anti's make themselves look sick and cruel by showing a guy hunting in Winter for BEAR. What's he going to do, crawl into their den and shoot them while they sleep? Good one, antis, and you call us cruel.

If you don't like the state you live in because it allows trapping, why don't you do all of us law-abiding hunters a favor and get out?

  • The majority of Maine and the rest of the country will cheer too, Jimbojim! It's time to stop letting people kill things just for their demented pleasure.

  • Hey kingjordan and indianbuck, why don't you get a dictionary and look up the word "spoof"? The hearing for the bears is on Tuesday at 1 at the Augusta Civic Center

  • What a joke this video is, First of all, in Maine when there is snow on the ground the bears are sound asleep. Second, you dont usually trap bear in hunter orange. Third, in the begining you see snow then you dont see snow then you see snow. Whats with the hunter eating the doughnuts? And who is the anti trying to impersonate a hunter? I dont beleive he lives in Maine.

  • Maybe you should do some research before you make a fool of yourself making such a ridiculous movie. What did this have to do with trapping?Luckily this was only fiction because if it were real this hunter would have froze to death up here in Maine before he would ever see a bear.

  • Bear trapping is sick, unmanly and unsportsmanlike. It's embarrassing that I live in the only state that allows it.

  • move!

  • Or I'll cheer when the legislature changes the law.

  • Maine is a rural state with lots of pristine forests, wildlife, and rednecks with heavy artillery... I know because I live here and any time a change in hunting or gun laws are proposed, they come out "armed for bear" if you pardon the expression. Big hearing planned for tomorrow on this law... interesting to see how it plays out.

  • I also know we don't need congress or anyone else butting in either. They can't fix their own messes. I think maine is one of the most beautiful states in the country, love the foliage, awesome!

  • Thanks, Artie, I appreciate your thinking this issue through.

  • ya right,i just meen mostly ones that cause havic ect. and moving them away is better than killing agree.

  • But Artie, I am firmly against trapping bears. The bill doesn't effect science or animal damage trapping, just doing it for fun. I don't actually know why anyone would be for it.

  • i think were on the same side man, lotta jobs in maine from hunting. no beef about that.

  • you people make me laugh! ya sit in your condo's and highrise apt's, sipping $8 latte's driving gas guzzling suv's telling mainers don't trap, hunt,or kill anything. that's there livlihood.then ya throw ya styrofoam cup out the window. enviro hazzard or what, grow up for christ sake!

  • 18 years Registered Maine Guide here, living in the woods in a solar powered house and determined to make the world a better place for all, not just humans. Sorry that you don't understand, Artie. Oh, also volunteer of the year at my local YMCA a few years ago. Been volunteering there for the last nine years.

  • Sorry, I meant to say abolished in the post below.

  • And if the arguments persist, we have actual video of bear trapping in Maine. We just don't think any healthy person should be subjected to it. We need your help!

  • For those who doubt that bear trapping should be abloished we will next be posting news footage of a bear in an Aldrich trap. The guy walks up to shoot him but they cut away before he pulls the trigger.Sorry, but with all the argument here we felt you should know the truth.

  • If Maine would stop feeding bears then there wouldn't be any population problem with them. We just have a corrupt wildlife agency, at least at the top.

  • I think fartieartie needs to get fixed so our population stops growing by that much. This mentality does more to hurt than bears do. I guess artie will stop driving too since people are occasionally killed in car accidents.

  • I guess you haven't seem too many bears in your area? Just last fall i saw one shot over 300 pounds mess with that badboy. go ahead wait for an attack then hear people bitch. It won't be long congress will stick there noses in our bussiness. Cattle killed ect. then there will be hell to pay. come on people, our population is growimg, and so will theirs.

  • I've read through these comments and the only reason that anyone seems to give to trap bears is cause they want to. Are they sociopathic or do they just hate anything that is smarter and stronger than they are?

  • what? english dude!

  • hahaha i saw u on the news this morning and i THINK you got in trouble but did u?

  • I had a bear break into a grainshed, he lugged out 100# bags of grain. He was trapped, and they found tags from maine, new hamhshire, and vermont on him. So they put him down. don't forget they can travel 100's of miles.

  • 130 bears a year are killed in traps. The fear tactic of eating kids is just that. The head game manager of Maine said that it is not needed to maintain bear pops. No science, unsporting, only state left, big black eye, time to go!

  • I mustn't be reading the papers or watching the news right anymore. I'm not seeing all the bear attacks in every other state in the US that has banned trapping bears. Same old fearmongering from the same old group of neanderthals.

  • No one presently alive chose to start trapping, trapping has gone on prior to the Pilgrims landing..just thought you should be informed ..but really doesn't matter cause with your attitude a triple E mosquito or rabid 'coon will be getting you soon

  • they banned cougar hunting in California.. now people are getting mauled and their dogs and cats end up as big cat lunch.. At least when someone gets mauled by a bear it will be quick...one swipe of the claws should finish 'em off..hopefully one will get the maker of this video and put them out of their misery...poor bastards.. with no life...they have nothing better to do than try to get restrictions imposed on others. Thank god for Maine the one free state still left..

  • The same idiots used this same emotinally loaded crap in a referendum which lost - easy to see why.

  • First off this is suppose to be an anti trapping and the idiot is hunting. Bears are a renewable resource and very delicious. Animals are here on this earth for us to eat and to make warm clothes to wear among other things. Trapping hunting and fishing are American traditions and customs so you antis can kiss off.

  • In 2004 the HSUS pumped $1 million that folks thought they were donating to help shelter animals into a deceptiion filled referendum against bear mgt. in ME after whining that legislators would not listen to them. Maine voters were asked to speak and they did by saying NO to banning bear trapping. Please respect Maine voter's desires and support bear trapping in Maine which this farce of a video does not.

BTW -- To view an actual modern bear trap in actions search "Aldrich Trap"

  • We'll just have to post one of the 6 actual videos we have of real Maine bear trapping to let the public know what we already know.

  • f.y.i as a hunter i have more respect for ALL animals than you ever will

  • You treehuggers make me sick! You don't have a clue as to life. the truth is baitting is a nessary part of mannagment, it ensures that these animals don't suffer from starvation, by over population. you stop hunting and you will see that as well as more bear/human conflicts. so just go back to your citys and think that you are saving the planet i'll be up here in maine keeping it pretty for you and your family when you come for a visit.

  • animal activists, go away! lord help you when a child gets hurt, or worse!

  • go ahead ban trapping, children get hurt, then there will be hell to pay.

  • Go ahead ban bear trapping, see how many children get attacked! Then there will be hell to pay!

  • If anyone out there had a few issues with them, they might think twice. I've seen what they can do to camps, garbage cans ect. when they want food they get it.Dousn't matter if a child or a grownup is in the way, they attack! Also cattle ranchers have problems too. go ahead ban trapping and look out there will be more problems than this.

  • This is a great video -- very effective, without being preachy. Solid.

  • Real hunters do not need to bait animals to be able to provide for their table! We need to end baiting in Maine!

  • aSpeaking as a hunter in Maine, bear trapping in Maine has got to go. It's not needed for management's sake and it's a black eye on the State where true sportsmen have a chance to preserve fair chase hunting.

  • Do they really still allow bear trapping in the great State of Maine? What up here?

Aren't these the animals we see at the circus riding bicycles with no hands in clown outfits?

Heck, it would hard to find a trapper with such skill.

    No more trapping in Maine.

  • Funny video about a sad thing.Bear trapping should have been stopped a long time ago. Go WAM.
