cool down everyone.I won 4 versions of this including richters1961 warsaw On DG and cliburns.Prefer richter but owned it first which may have colored my vision a bit.just enjoy what you like.just such an incredible work by rachmaninoff
@diodde So demanding and rude. You do realize that you should be thankful that the truecrypt took time out of his life to upload this regardless of how many pieces it is split into right?
For my money Richter is the best by far in this concerto.Bronfman for example did a good job too but noone comes close to this brilliant and deligthful performance mixed with unbeliveable power.listening to this masterpiece is like sailing away into another world far away from any problem and any despair.to my mind from every pianist richter understands it the best to bring in the original emotion which rachmaninov also wanted to express.
I read so many comments here and there about this pianist and that performance etc. etc... I am deeply moved by not only the talent and depth of the performers, with a few minor exceptions, but also the immeasurable brilliance of those who brought this music into being. That said, I can only add; with so many points of view and countless perspectives, regardless of whether you see thorns or petals, are we not still describing a rose?
Sound travels in a fluid that surrounds the lower atmosphere; Homo sapiens used this property to communicate simple and later more profound concepts through languages. Music is also a means of communication. There are feelings, conceptions, et cetera that cannot be communicated through any language but music. Words fall short of describing what Rachmaninov/Richter/Sanderling are communicating here; but whatever it is, it nourishes one's soul. Thank you for uploading this gem ...
I haven't heard much but he seems to keep the songs technically exact....more than anyone else I've heard.... except when he's riffing the end of Liszt's Hungarian Rhaphsody....

it's funny truecrypt after I said that i looked up cliburn on youtube and he blew the beginning its not that richters worse i just dont like the way he slows it down but he does play with a lot of feeling
This is the definitive version of the Second Piano Concerto of Rachmaninoff, unless one considers the actual performance by Rachmaninoff. IMHO, any serious collector of Rachy piano concerti should consider the 2 CD boxed set by Rachmaninoff which includes the four piano concerti and "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini". Not amazingly, the sound quality is mediocre, but the performances are marvelous. Anyway six stars for this post.
a person without any reflexion and emotion,Richter was the most amazing pianist, the most secret and reserved,it was not just a pianist or musician with a level that high that we could never imagine but a genius as person!!!
Glorious playing. I simply cannot understand people who think Richter is a colorless, heartless technician. This is some of the most beautiful, heartfelt, and colorful playing I've ever heard.

You loser !!! Why didn't you put the recording in 1 video instead of split it in 2?
diodde 8 months ago
@diodde
Cool down a little... At that time YT didn't allow video longer than 10 min. 59 sec.
This limit was removed just recently.

@aldebussy I think you are right. But for me Rachmaninoff no.2 concert is a holy and divine piece of music... it cannot be split ... :-/

Замечательная сила и органичность воплощения, интерпретации.
Любые детали подчинены этому и вторичны.
Искренняя благодарность truecrypt.
Wonderful power and naturalness of the embodiment and interpretation.
Another details are submisioned and not important now.
My gratitude to truecrypt.

Rachmaninoff performing, then Horowitz, then Richter and Van Cliburn :-)))
And Yefim's performences (Rach 2, 3, 4) are also extraordinary.

Well... you don't like Richter and Cliburn "blew" something too... I'm not sure Rachmaninoff himself would satisfy your taste.

van cliburn is better

I love Cliburn's recording of Rachmaninoff 2nd but is it *better*? In what respect?
If you like Cliburn more it's fine, but it doesn't make Richter "worse".

I think Arcadi Volodos' is the finest performance of this concerto.
