  • Polystyrene is NOT environmentally friendly, fuck Diginfo. I unsubscribed this crap channel when I realized that they like to push cheap junk from Asia that is typically toxic, fragile, or not even going into production, if it could possibly be good. Yes, it's a dome, but it's a horrible dome. Grass huts last longer than 10 years, they are eco-friendly like nobody's mother, plus you don't have to pay for it, or shipping and delivery.

  • Dome Sweet Dome <3

  • @hugobossdb Ya If you had to replace it every 10 years and made out of foam. But if you make it last for a lifetime then I would not complain. And If I had the chance to live in one of these I would. It would save me a lot of money to ether buy assets or stupid shit. And I like the design. More space and save a lot more energy. Not every one is going to want to live in a dome so I would expect people to make other designs besides the unchanged house design we've had for too long.

  • America will be able to do this once people fucken wake up for once ):

  • oh god...I hope they won't stop making normal hosues so they force us to live in THAT

  • Would like to see more of this. Thumbs up.

  • uploaded in 2007 are any being lived in now, if so how are they doing?

    updates anywhere and todays prices?

wonder if this is better then the wood buildings that can be flat packed.

did the world just go sort of lego!!!!!!!??????

snap it together and go live in it=lego.

    i would buy one.

  • i want to live in one, they need to make those in the US.

  • If this can upstand earthquakes...O_O I wish these were built earlier. -helps Japan-

  • SPORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • teletubbies

  • brought to you by capsule corp

  • I'd live in one.

  • I love this video / information.

In thwe mid 1970's I designed a 2 story dome house that took one day to construct thus cutting the cost greatly and filtering incomming air while exhusting cleaner air etc.

It was written up in the newspaper and I did a radio show etc but when my main and only investor had a heart attack at age 80, well, the dream was put on hold. I am happy to see it alive again and whish them the best of luck...

  • looks like they didnt get these in time

  • Kame House :D

  • This is nice and might have been useful to some during the earthquake, but considering the population in Japan (and just about every country in the world), building these for a larger percentage of the population is no feasible. We need a good mix btw skyscraper (lots of people) and dome house (relatively ecofriendly).

  • @nighttigress1 Here in the U.S., on the statistical average, only a very small percentage of the land has actually been developed for housing and commerce. You can keep your skyscrapers. I don't want to live like some hive insect.

  • yeah those would have been good when the earthquake hit

  • actually they really could use them right now in japan

  • Cool idea, bloody rip-off though.

  • I love this concept :) Easy & Inexpensive Great potential.

  • You stole my idea.. again

  • Could we perhaps not talk about how this design has been around for a while? If you all like it so much then you should be happy people are implementing it in a practical way, I'm sure the people who thought of it originally are/would be.

To me this design makes sense, less complicated and much more thermally efficient. People haven't really redesigned how houses are built in far too long a time IMO, too stuck in the aesthetics and default option perhaps.

  • this is not environmentally optimum.

  • Jacque Fresco thought about this type of houses 30-40 years ago...

  • looks SUSPICIOUSLY like the venus project's housing / jacque fresco's ideas. even down to the building materials, concrete over foam. a little too suspicious............

  • Main advantage of this house is cheapness, insulation properties, and quick assembly. Downsides are that the foam eventually disintegrates (vulnerable to oils, crumbling, high heat, and fire is still an issue even with a concrete coating) which then leaves a hollow shell which then also crumbles. Also hard to modify for expansion or new windows or plumbing or wiring. Upside is that repair materials are cheap.

  • WANT

  • This is a rip off from Buckminster Fuller's idea of a home built ina geodesic dome shape

  • MUY BONITA IDEA ..................

  • 40K vs. 200K=No Brainer folks and if you want even more decent prices for anything, let the market do its thang...Ron Paul RevoLution.

  • 41.000 USD for...styrofoam panels? ehh.. that does not feel right

  • If it's so easy to make then it should be much more cheaper

  • WOOW LETS GET A MINI STYRAFOME HOSE AND PLAY CATCH WITH IT :)

  • 1.How is this eco friendly?2.for time's of drought where do you focus a storm water drain off for water conservation?3 to be eco friendly even in economic hard times it has to be affordable.4. how does this building in concepts in terms of expansion if you have unexpected children?

  • @tappakeggaday1 dont you see they come in different sizes...just like hauses...

  • Comment removed

  • @tappakeggaday1 dont forget its the japanese behind it...im pretty sure they figured it out...look it up...nobodies gna answer u here...

  • Comment removed

  • @tappakeggaday1 lol the answers to your questions are not too far away from here...dont be lazy now...instead of wasting time on here asking them you should be researching them...thats the point...if you really wanna know then go find out...since you are making "valuable equerries" that need answers :D

  • Comment removed

  • @tappakeggaday1 wow so youre already assuming things about me...how much more ignorant can somebody get lol first of all i would of never came up with "fiber glass toilet paper" that was you thinking that...oh the irony lol second its nice that youve put thought into your little argument except that there are many ways to go about it...maybe they see something you cant...just because it doesnt fit your logic doesnt mean its not good...theres a reason why youre not the one developing such a task.

  • But can it withstand the fires of Mordor?

  • @overoffstudios OF COURSE!!!

  • Far too expensive. Cost needs to get down to 20 thousand or so to give young folks a REAL hope of getting into housing without severe debt.

  • @Zachstar2000 I strongly agree with you.

  • FAIL HOUSE!

  • It's coated with concrete mortar, so you won't be exposed to any toxic fumes. If the house catches fire, then leave. If a normal house caught on fire, you'd die too if you stayed inside.

  • Google monolitic domes. They have been around for 50 years.

  • Styrofoam is extremely toxic.

  • @johnlvs2run : Styrofoam - expanded polystyrene foam - is the same stuff used to make plastic eating utensils, plates, and cups and a large amount of food packaging. If it were "extremely toxic", it would not be used for those things. It's in beef, strawberries, wine and cheese. If it were "extremely toxic", we'd all be dead right now.

/Burning/ polystyrene gives off toxic and noxious gasses, however.

  • @bardfinn We must live on a different planet.

I don't use any of those things.

  • @johnlvs2run Styrofoam gasses, are extremely toxic, but I doubt that people would set their house on fire intentionally.

  • It will cost you so less you can move out of the house on the day it was made ROFL

  • better yet, make it out of cobb and it will cost a fraction of that and your own labor!

  • I always wanted a foam hose. =D lol

  • How do the Japs get into those small houses? ^.-

  • @A100101100101 threw the DOOR!!

  • brilliant but ugly

  • with a temp of 72 deg year round that's with no electric cooling or gas heating you can save some money

  • indeed a rip off, you can build the same house out of sand for 5000 dollars tops!

  • for the same land you can build a 4 storey building.. fuck domes!

  • woot we ganna be livn in DOMES! haha

  • @Just2Comment789

woot woot wooty toot toot poot poot wooty poot woot

what is definition of woot? ganna? livn?

  • dragon ball houses!!!

  • 8k at very most, delivered.

  • rip off.

  • looks like one of those capsule houses from dragon ball

  • 40 000 $ is for me too high price for few pieces of StyrenFoam :) for that price I can buy a monter StyroBox and dig a suitable cave for living space.

But this is a nice idea - what is cylindrical or round is usualy beautiful:)

  • @xmicina For that price I can build a mother ship and conquer the japs....these guys want profit in exchange for nothing

  • now this is how oil is meant to be used!

not for transport but for support!

beautiful alternative to our wasteful use of oil energy!

oil for foam plastics is better direction!

  • These are very cool. Leave it to Japan to perfect it =]

  • its ok but go check out csidomes to see a real one you can go inside of and construct in 0NE HOUR! built in canada! home of the SUPER IGLOO!

  • dragonball houses :P

  • Reminds me of the Tellietubby house that is built in the hill and stuff.

  • i agree with arkjoka, when i first looked at that small house, i was reminded of the dragonball series. thats gonna be a pretty interesting sight in the future.

  • awesome future. hahaha

  • hobbits!

  • Looks very interesting. Can they be designed as multistory units?

  • 00:41 someone walking is wearing a mask

  • Japanese have good manners: When they have a cold, they wear a mask to avoid spreading the disease.

  • It's because of all the smog they have over there.

  • thes is the futer

  • Im gonna paint mine like hello kitty.

  • pretty cool. :{)

  • DRAGONBALL Z, LOL.....

  • all hail! all hail :O

  • @Darkjoka13 I CANT FUCKING WAIT.... WHOS GONNA BE PICCOLO?!?!

  • @Shadowcontheoriginal i call piccolo! i'm gonna go work on being green

  • @Darkjoka13 that was my reaction too XD

  • @Darkjoka13 That was the first thing on my mind.

  • @Darkjoka13 they copy the idea XD

  • Reminds me of the hobysel houses from Lord of the rings.

  • no we look like we can live in the Shire!

  • Rome wasnt built in a day, but a Dome is built in a day.

  • I don't care for the design: it's got too much of a peas-in-a-pod, lookalike feeing, and is too small. I saw little plastic domes similar to these being marketed back in the mid-70s. They never took off, and I can see why. Moreover, polystyrene is NOT environmentally friendly. It's made from petroleum, a non-renewable resource.

If you want a dome I suggest a geodesic, a custom monodome, or else check out Roger Dean's ferro cement houses. They're beautiful homes, not tract houses in blob form.

  • lol i wana c that shit survive a typhoon, my ass it does

  • Actually it probably would, IF properly anchored to the ground. Domes are extremely good at withstanding terrible weather. Also the claims of earthquake safety are probably justified (though I'm not so sure about fire safety - styrofoam is made from oil). It's just the lack of poetry in design and the sameness of the window shapes and sizes that leave me cold.

  • Ask yourself this, when was the last time you saw a square egg, drop, ball, cell or skull (block heads excluded). One day, we'll be able to moves beyond boxes and live as nature intended, safe and secure in our domes. :)

  • AHAHAH drgaon ball Z house, lol

  • Interesting but it seems way overpriced for the square footage

  • Doesn't sound very expensive. You are not going to get much of a house, especially one that is new, energy efficient, fire/hurricane/etc resistant, with the design approved by the government for $41,000, especially in Japan.

I suspect the monolithic domes are stronger, but I'm not 100% sure of that.

  • but is seems like structurally it lacks the advantages of the monolithic homes.

  • japan awesome

  • WOW!! I want one!

  • Why not use earth instead of polystyrene? Cheaper, readily available, naturally insulating.

  • you know that round house easy air circulation. Mongols or Nomads lived in round houses that made fresh in and bad breath air is out. There are also round house has this very good influences on human mental state too. Soothing effect.

  • It reminds me of the Earthship concept, except it's WAY more expensive and WAY LESS insulated AND WAY LESS STRONG.

  • more expensive? an earthship is like ten times the cost of that. of couse it has water catchment and an earthsip can cost as much as three hundred thousand and good luck finding someone who would be willing to construct it.

  • haha!! $300,000 for an Earthship? Who are you getting to build it, Davinci?? You are ignorant in ways that makes me ashamed to be American. Guess what? Constructing mine costed about $25,000 INCLUDING used tires from Sam's Club and 10 dump trucks of sand/loam. That is with full rain water collection, solar-convection heating, solar hot water, 2 walk in showers, and 1800 sf of unabided floor space. GET A CLUE, stop watching HGTV, you moron. This stuff was DESIGNED TO BE BUILT BY OWNER, moron.

  • I like the Earthship concept and the Amount of Experience and Hands on Experience, that has already evolved out of it.

The only thing that concerns me, is the related Health Hazard associated with released Gases from the Tires. ( augments according to Temperature Range and Climate )

  • I agree with you. The whole point of this is to taske this out of the hands of the PTB and into the hands of average joe';s like us!

$300,000 is way too much for this. I like how you built yours for under $30k. A shining example for the rest of us!

    Thanks!

  • Are you buidling an Eartship out of brand new racing tires?? That is the ony way it could cost you $300,000. Your exaggerations are funny.

  • This dome is the best I've seen yet. Add a skylight diffuser and dialable portal. There's a "slice" widened window wall which is appealing. Domes are best in tornado, hurricane and earthquake areas. Electricity, plumbing and heating should be run in the baseboards. The dome is super efficient wrt heating and cooling. You can reinforce them with steel cages if you live in the hurricane/tornado areas, against projectiles. I like the Art Nouveau aesthetic I saw used with some of the domes.

  • Now all we need is Capsule Corp. and then we're getting some where.

  • I am really interested in this kind of home, being someone who is hardly rich. Where can I find some more info on them?

  • Does it come with a geisha?

  • now im definatly moving to japan

  • I agree that dome houses can be built and are defeinitely cost-efficient, but there are still limits. There's space wastage, a problem of roof drainage, and it's difficult to get windows to fit (unless the window-ports are built in).

But I'm still interested. If you have a large property, a domed building might be a good idea for a guest house.

  • expensive ;_;

  • less than a SUV

  • what about electrical? Do you dig the walls out for the circuits or what?

  • o yeah everyone i know wants to live in that (being sarcastic if your that stupid to not know)

  • Thats a lot of money for a foam house.

  • yeah for a foam house, normal houses cost anyway from 100k to 1 million. hell even i can buy one one of these foam houses :)

  • Where I live, you're lucky to get a 2BR for under $200k. Hell, I'm trying to find an apartment in the city for under $2k/month that doesn't look like a roach motel.

I would so freaking buy one of these houses. I could make $41,000 with a minimum wage, part time job and save buttloads in heating.

  • where do I buy where do I buy??? I want one. Why wouldnt I?

  • they use to make breast implants with polystyrene

  • Did they make good insulation?

  • When essembling this unit, is the electrical and plumbing built within the styrofoam?
