  • I almost switched the TV off after the fifth. Lennox was sadistic and I got the opinion that he was actually trying to kill Tyson, whose corner gave hom one round, reneged & still allowed him to take a savage beating that he should never have been allowed to have taken.

As a Brit, I wanted Lennox to win but I didn't want to see this. Why wasn't the towel thrown in and leave Mike with the dignity and respect that he deserved. He wanted to quit but didn't give up. This was unpleasant..

  • Mike Tyson 1 of the greatest.

  • It seems the only person here that appreciated Lennox's greatness was Mike Tyson himself.

  • Anyone can win, but it takes a champion to answer the bell and end the fight on your back even when he knows that there is no chance for any other outcome. Lennox Lewis deserves to go down as one of the great heavyweight champions, and so does Mike Tyson. Fighters fight.

  • Mike Tyson still my hero :)

  • mike tyson 1

  • 3:32

  • If Lewis had fought Tyson in 1988 he would be just another nameless terrified looking black dude getting knocked the fuck out on a Tyson highlight video.

  • @DrOprahVonPenishat - Mabey so, but Lennox Lewis would be the tougher one

  • Comment removed

  • @DrOprahVonPenishat lewis wasnt even a gold medalist in 1988 he was still an amature lmao.

  • @DrOprahVonPenishat I disagree. Lewis was one of the most skilled, and incredible fighters in the history of the Heavyweight division. Tyson wasn't even a good "inside" fighter. Which is why Holyfield, and Lewis were able to beat him, because they smothered Tyson on the inside. Tyson was a mid-range fighter, not an inside fighter, and that was his biggest flaw.

  • @Transformers217 Tyson wasn't a good inside fighter and was mainly a mid range fighter? That's how he looked in his decline, and it seems that's how you're judging him but that's not what he was at his best. At his best he moved his head, used his aggression and got inside range QUICK. He was solely an inside fighter. Lewis would have come up against the exact same problem everybody else did... you couldn't couldn't keep him out. He was IMO too slow and methodical to counter Tysons aggression.

  • @DrOprahVonPenishat Wrong, you're just focusing on the myth. Look at Tyson in his prime, he wasn't a good inside fighter. He would even use his head to create distance between him and his opponents. He hated fighting on the inside. That's why Evander Holyfield stayed close to Tyson, and knocked him out. Lewis did the same thing. But in his prime, Tyson was a mid-range fighter. Look at all of his knock out victories, they all came at mid-range. Tyson never fought a great fighter like Lewis.

  • @Transformers217 Used his head to create distance? Deep down even you must know you don't know what you're talking about.

Holyfield tied him up on the inside to stop him using his inside game, therefore nullifying his main strength.... Lewis used his length to keep him at range and tied him up on the inside for the same reason. That's how you had to fight Mike. Everybody knows this shit, even people who think he's overrated.

  • @DrOprahVonPenishat You're saying that I don't know what I'm talking about, because you don't have an argument against what I'am saying. I know you've noticed Tyson's "inside" game. It's terrible. You can most hardcore boxing fans. "Inside" fighting is a lost art-form. Tyson would create distance with his head, so that he can knock out his opponents from mid-range. Tyson was a mid-range fighter, not an inside fighter. That's why he lost to Holyfield, because Holyfield was an inside fighter.

  • @DrOprahVonPenishat In Tyson's prime, he never fought great fighters like Holyfield and Lewis. And if he did, he would of gotten knocked out. Holyfield was too much "man" for Tyson. And Lewis was vastly superior to Tyson in every way. Lewis had the height and reach advantage. He had the better defense, he was faster, and he was stronger than Tyson. I know people like to focus on the myth of Mike Tyson, but let's look at the reality. Tyson was overrated.

  • @Transformers217 You're very clearly a very part time boxing fan who assumes you know what you're talking about. We all now how debatable Tysons place in history is and there are a lot of good arguments against his legacy but yours isn't one of them.

Stick to Transformers, computer gammes and anime, leave boxing for boxers.

  • @DrOprahVonPenishat I've been a boxing fan for over 11 years. I've talked to other hardcore boxing fans about this. Tyson was not an inside fighter. He was a mid-range fighter. It's a fact. Most of his knock outs came from mid-range, you can see that in a lot of his knock out victories during the 80's. Holyfield and Lewis knew that Tyson was a terrible "inside" fighter, and that's why they would fight him on the inside. Tyson was a very good fighter, but he was flawed.

  • Tyson got a good, old-fashioned behind whooping. It was like he was Tina and Lennox was Ike.

  • touching his face and shit after the fight LMFAO so gay when u look at it

  • @jaydarenegade

Now say that to Mike Tyson if u ever see him in person.

  • @mosando Nah i wont say it in front of him Im not suicidal, but I was just saying it look funny as hell

  • Two great fighters and tme just wouldnt let them blend at he right time lennox beat a washed up fighter nyt he didnt have what tyson had in his prime a vicious fighter who only had one thing on his mind a knockout

  • There will be time for averybody like at fight Klitchko vs Lewis

  • always impressed with George Foremans views on fights, a lot of boxing writers quote just seem a lil over dramatised and off the mark and i think thats due to the fact that the majority of them never set foot in the ring

  • Everyone says Tyson would have won if he was in his prime but, to be honest, we'll never really know how good Tyson was in his prime. He never really beat any world class fighters. In my opinion, to be world class you have to beat world class fighters. Tyson beat decent fighters. Yes, he beat them in spectacular fashion, but does that mean he would do the same against the best fighters?

  • @27danielDM Earlier in the documentary, it says the public had a lot invested into the myth of Mike Tyson. I believe that's what it was. People are quick to say, "Mike was past his prime." Well so was Lewis, and he destroyed Tyson. Not beat, but utterly destroyed.

Ali was past his prime when he fought Foreman. Foreman was past his prime when he beat Moorer. Tyson was a great boxer, but he's not in the same league as Louis, Robinson, Frazier, etc.

  • You guys clearly don't know anything about boxing, Tyson in his prime would've destroyed Lewis guaranteed. Cus d'amato discovered Tyson and became his trainer along with Kevin Rooney. With Kevin Rooney, Tyson was very disciplined and had a effective technique of destroying his opponents early or throughout the fight. Don King later on told Tyson to fire his old crew and this is when Tyson started to slack off and hang with the wrong crowd. He became sloppy and ultimately lost his first match.

  • People seem to forget that lennox is the same age as tyson, and was not in his prime either. Although lennox at 35 was more game than tyson at 35. I still think if the fight took place 10 years earlier lennox would win. Too tall, too strong, too smart.

  • @CombatSportsFan agreed Lennox is a legendary fighter

  • @CombatSportsFan i hate people that make comments like you just did lol, longjevity is different with some people, some are still good at 35 like lennox was, tyson at 35 was done cant you see that? The style mike fought in was so physically demanding and explosive he was never going to be able to have much longjevity as opposed to someone who fights like lennox

  • has anyone else noticed in every video of tyson losing theres a billion comments saying 'IN HIS PRIME TYSON WOULDA MURDERED HIM!' lennox woulda beaten him either way imho. evander too

  • @senorbigfart Have you ever noticed the difference between the Mike Tyson in the 80´s and the Mike Tyson in the 90´s? And this fight took place in 200! I´m not saying anything like it would have been different if the fight would have taken off earlier. But being a Tyson fan, is like rooting for a football team. You don´t quit rooting for your team when they loose. But I am mostly a fight fan, and for that reason I would have wanted to see Lewis in bigger fights earlier in his career.

  • @senorbigfart they sparred when they where teens and mike got the best of it. Lennox even admits that he wanted to part of him when they where young. "this guy fights like an animal"- Lennox L.

  • @senorbigfart LOL Dont you think theres good reason behind that?? LOL I mean shit, you have the same amount of people saying Ali is the greatest heavyweight of all time, its still an opinion but just because everyone says that its ok and accepted, but when the same tons of people say in Tysons prime he could have beaten anyone, its all of the sudden blasphemous?? That's hypocrisy.

  • @senorbigfart I don't know man ... a prime tyson was a vicious beast... a monster.

  • @senorbigfart THATS BECAUSE HE WOULDVE FUCKING KILLED HIM BITCH

  • @senorbigfart Load of bullshit, that comment clearly shows you don't know jack shit about boxing or about Tyson. Prime Tyson under Cus D'Amato would destroy both Lennox and Holyfield. Don't get me wrong, Holyfield and Lennox are legends, but Tyson under Cus was disciplined, he had hope, he had something to fight for, he had meaning and above all that he had his amazing skill, scientific style, thunderous power and crazy speed...

  • @senorbigfart When Mike was in his prime, Lennox was still an amateur and Evander was still a cruiserweight. OF COURSE TYSON WOULDA MURDERED THEM. Lewis and Holyfield weren't ready for Tyson yet. Unfortunately when they were ready for Mike Tyson, Mike had already self destructed before they could expose his weaknesses which existed even in his prime.

  • Lennox Lewis is one of the best heavyweights of all time - no doubt about it, he would be tough to beat for any of the great heavyweights.

Tyson on the other hand was untouchable when he was around 20 years old but never fulfilled his potential

  • 1.31 shit this is it...im done

  • Tyson has one of the saddest stories ever.

  • Tyson=the last great American heavyweight, and that has a lot to say about American boxing and its status. I'm American, and our boxing programs are a joke. We don't take it seriously anymore.

  • Sad that the heavyweight division is shit these days!!

  • It sure would have been great to see these two go at it when they were both in their primes. Tyson had nobody to compete with him in his prime, and Lewis really hasn't either. Lewis was just better than Holyfield, and Klitscho. he got complacent against Rahman and got laid out, but showed he was superior in the rematch. Who was better in their prime? Lewis or Tyson? I wish we knew for sure, but I would guess that Lewis wouldn't have been able to avoid Tyson's onslaught like he did in this fight.

  • With the exception of the 2nd Holyfield fight, Tyson always took his beating like a man. Tyson knew the history of the game and had a warrior mentality. Im not really a Tyson fan but I didnt know why people were so surprised he took the beating vs Lennox. He knew he was earning back respect.

  • Can we all agree that Mike Tyson has one hell of a chin? Even when he got knocked out, he took ridiculous firepower from pretty big punchers.

  • everyone must have been so badly dissapointed that both guys were way out of their primes.

  • who did tyson ever beat of note apart from larry holmes to get himself so highley rated? surelly there a big difrence between being great at beating easy oppenants and just being great?

and i really am asking my knolwdge is not that great in boxing.

  • @sjewitt22 Razor Ruddock - kicking his ass, hell, breaking the man's jaw that it ballooned out of his face, is what it took to chop down that hardened giant, and Tyson did it.

  • ....

  • It's kinda sad that there were actual people who bet large sums of money or even their mortgages on Tyson beating Lewis. Tyson never stood a chance and it's also sad that American fans only accepted Lewis as a legit HW champ after he KO'd a washed up version of Tyson.

  • when pussy lewis fought as an amateur (where children fight) Tyson was the fucking champion of the world. So fuck off! P.S. don't write me shit back fucktards.

  • @rapeyou8991

    Whats your point moron?

  • @403766 suck my dick you fucking nigger kissing bitch,i hope you die with a dick in your mouth, thats my point.

  • tyson was a psychological fighter back in the 80 s.he had everyone scared by the time the bell rung the fear in spinks and holmes eyes thats how he survived on the streets he was so scared himself he thought if he had to fight he had to destroy someone kill them but holyfeild and lewis wre not afraid because they knew him.holyfeild sparred with him at olympic and lewis was a sparring partner for one of mikes traing camps both of them roughed him up and were able for him so he lost in his head

  • Lennox and his weak chin wouldn't have lasted 2 rounds against 1988 Tyson. Matter of fact, Lennox got KO'd by a Tyson's sparring partner in Oliver Mc Call. Lennox didn't come to America until Tyson was in prision and Chicken Bowe was champion....

  • @chifuli1974

Lewis = Commonwealth superheavyweight gold medalist, Olympic superheavyweight gold medalist winning against Riddick Bowe, European HW champion, who holds pro wins over Tyrell Biggs Donovan "Razor" Ruddock, Tony Tucker, Frank Bruno, Tommy Morrison, Ray Mercer, Andrew Golata, Shannon Briggs, Zeljko Mavrovc, Evander Holyfeild, Michael Grant, Francios Botha, David Tua, Mike Tyson and Vitali Klitschko + hall of famer.

Lewis was always the better fighter with the best competiton

  • @403766 And Lewis was a better fighter ONLY AFTER Tyson went to jail, but before that a well trained Cus d' Amato Tyson would have put Lewis to sleep faster than you can say coca cola...

  • @chifuli1974

Lol, considering te buster doulgas fight was before prison along with all his tomato can fights, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say tyson only sucked when the competition got better(what a coincidence)

  • @403766 No, I'm talking about before Cus d' Amato passing, by the time he fought Buster he was already slackig in training, having sex before fights and patying, drinking and spending too much time messing around and beleiving his own press clips...

  • @chifuli1974

still, a 42-1 underdogg who shouldnt have been in the ring him? Tyson shoulda won with one arm.

  • @403766 That dude was on another whole place that night and Tyson just didn't train or worried about his style anymore, he had become a head hunter and not the stylish guy who Cus D'Amato trained. There's a big difference between Tyson when he was with Kevin Rooney and the Tyson with his thug buddies...

  • Lewis is far better fighter,he didnt just fight truck drivers.Tyson had already lost to Evander.

  • Tyson's uncharacteristic sportsmanship was definitely permanent, and Lewis got credit from American Boxing Fans. To this day, I 'm still shocked at how humble MIke has become. It almost certainly has something to do with his children. Without them, Mike would probably be in prison, or dead. Ironically,Mike's kids saved his life.

  • it's funny how people lash on lewis for beating tyson past his prime lewis was older than tyson and tyson showed respect to lewis after the fight saying he's a magnificent boxers but tyson's fans always come up with excuses whenever tyson loses because they don't accept that the man is human and is making misstakes instead of findind him dumb ass excuses learn to live with it just like tyson did tyson is a great guy lot of heart good boxing style and give his opponents credits t

  • bro lennox lewis is the biggest bitch he didnt go 2 jail n deal with everythin mike tyson did if lewis walked in tysons shoes he would of killed him self a long time ago - MIKE TYSON THE BEST EVER

  • what kind of gloves are those? Reyes?

  • "He took a vicious ass whooping, he got one em down home Mississippi ass whoopings in that fight, i mean grandmas lysol couldn't wash out what he got that night"

Lewis is older then tyson, gf fanboys.

  • In both Lewis and Tyson's prime, then this fight would have been worth something. By the time it happened, Tyson's career was on a downward spiral. I wish this fight had happened in the late 80's. Then it would have been a different result, believe that.

  • That is BULLSHIT. Nobody, that I know thinks anything bad about Lennox at all period. We don't think he boxed poorly, or was too safe. He went out there and fought, if the knockout oppotunity was there he took it. He BOXED, he beat his opponents into submission, he beat them so they felt it 2 or 3 months later. Everyone I know are all in agreement that Lennox Lewis is one of the Top 5 World Champions of all-time. Period.

  • @niceguy198421 Totally. He could deal with aggressive fighters like Tyson as well as anyone, that jab just kept them away, or opened them up to his devastating right.

  • Boxing is 10% physical and 90% mental i am a big mike fan but he lost this fight because his mind was very weak. And too many yes men will give any fighter overconvidence but at the end of the day its the two fighters in the ring no one else. if you depend on others, chances are on your own your gonna lose. saying that i do believe that tyson lewis at their prime would have been a great fight tyson wins on points. peace out.

  • y would this beat prt of "legendary nights"? wat was so special about this event, that medicated washed up tyson lost? one was good and one was great but here we have a good fighter vs a bum

  • @cmurda51 It was a special event

  • @cmurda51 i think the first video of this episode provided the answer when it came to the importance of this event. just listen to what larry merchant said, maybe it could help.

  • @LMLR187 honestly to lazy to look lol, but if larry says the fight was of any importance it just shows how pathetic this division has become imo. this fight ment nothing for boxing, just like hopkins v jones II. yes tyson and lewis are both names but it proved nothing, both had seen their better days @ that point but tyson being a shot fighter was an understatement as well as being a disturbed individual. just the way i see it.

  • @cmurda51 he didn't say it was. wat he said was (paraphrasing) that everyone who attended or saw the fight gave it that credibility. they perceived this bout as somewat of an epic confrontation between to titans. in other words the spectators felt that it was important, so in the end perception is reality.

  • @LMLR187 i can c where he and or the crowd is coming from. they are both marque names and @ some point in there respective careers/eras were rightfully concidered "Titans". just @ that point in time i guess i disagree with the masses. i saw it as a still capable borderline GREAT heavyweight vs a severly faded legend who was no longer a fighter. had they both been in there primes i would share the same sentiments but i guess those two names in the ring made for an epic situation

  • @cmurda51 well its good to find an understanding on the whole situation.

  • Tyson at his best would have beaten Lewis at his best. Lewis is kidding himself, in this regard.

  • @RookhKshatriya Put it this way,

1)Lewis wins 3 outta 4 rounds sparring with tyson until tyson quit in the 80's! about 10 years close to tysons prime than lewis's

    2) 1996 Tyson gave up his WBC belt to lewis so he didnt have to fight him, and lewis sued his management for $4million cuz lewis was a mandatory defence, holyfield said"he took me as an easier fight"

3)They finally meet and lewis whipps him with an injured hand

4)Lewis's opponents were far better than tysons offically

  • @403766, the only decent fighters tyson ever beat were a light heavyweight Spinks and Razor Ruddock....THAT'S IT!

  • i find this interesting, Mike dident just drop on the floor and give up, That would have made him a coward. He stood to the bitter end.

  • @G3ner0 Yea he stood until he ended up crouching down in front of Lewis with his hands over his head like a little girl. Way to go Mike!

  • @adrenacrumb Yeah, like you could have taken any of those shots you wimp.

  • @Maxshard And how does that change Tyson ended up on his knees like a little girl with his hands over his head exactly?

  • @adrenacrumb It changes nothing in that sense, but cowardly armchair generals such as yourself are very good at attacking brave fighters, but the odds are overwhelming, that you couldn't have taken a single one of either man's shots, without ending up in the hospital.

I just think you should show some respect, rather than standing in the back rows of stupidity, booing a brave man who was already shot and absorbed a tremendous amount of punishment.that would have killled the average guy.

  • @Maxshard If Tyson didn't act like such a total retard before his fights I wouldn't have a problem, if he is going to talk big he needs to back his shit up.

  • What is it with American boxing 'writers' acting like wannabe tough guys? Tyson showed courage and durability way beyond the call of duty in this fight.

  • @eltubster14 True. Lennox was as vicious a fighter as Tyson, but more controlled. He was also at his most dangerous when against a dangerous opponent. Mike's bravery agaisnt him should be acknowledged, as should his graciousness in defeat.

  • @eltubster14

How can you be so stupid?? Tyson stepped into the ring to earn his paycheck and then he went home, he never tried to win a single round but stupids like you paid him for this scam.

  • @eltubster14 I'm American Indian and I grew up in a low income neighborhood that was low income hispanic and low income black. There were a lot of guys who couldn't fight a lick, but would talk a big game. Part of it is the environment. In that setting, ppl are judged on how tough they are. Sometimes that sticks with them until adulthood.

The other part is skull duggery. If you can scare ppl into backing out of a fight, youve won. Bruce Lee might call it, "The art of fighting without fighting.

  • 1:26 Any other boxer would have gone done at that point!

  • Comment removed

  • Tyson would fuck him in his prime

  • lewis wanted the fight don king wouldnt let it happen

  • What does this have to do with boxing?

  • @DerPatevsTonyMontana No way. His reach advantage, his strength, his ability to box was always beyond Tyson's ability. Go back and look at who Tyson, Spinks and Berbick were the only fighters worth it on the list of guys he beat. Lewis beat Morrison, Holyfield (twice), Vitali Klitschko, Tyson, and beat every guy he fought.

  • @blender1250 Morrison? not a great fighter. white hype.

    Holyfield? way past prime

Vitali Klitschko? He got lucky with the cut, Vitali was giving Lennox an ass whooping

    Tyson? Shot to shit

  • @blender1250 see that fifagutten guy is a typical dumb ass fan they would try to take lewis legacy away from him but he beat the best morrison tua mercer tyson holyfield rahman even klitshko but since lewis isn't american they say he's not great

  • @DerPatevsTonyMontana typical Comment from someone who doesnt know the Sweet Science. Instead of Giving a Logical Reason Of Why you THink Mike Would Win, You Just Say "Tyson Would Fuck Him in his Prime"

Anyway, Prime For Prime, its still a close fight, Lennox Was a Great Fighter and Would Give Mike a Hand Full. Perhaps Even Beat Him.

  • @00Rooster4Life00 nope it would be easy for tyson, people like briggs, mercy, bruno and mason staggered lewis. rahman and macall knocked him out easy. lewis couldn't get off the floor and in survival mode agaist briggs and bruno he was all over the place abd just one punch from defeat. A finisher as good as tyson would have finished lewis as soon as he got him staggered. I'd give it 4 rounds at most. i do think holyfeild and bowe and maybe a prime golata would have beat a prime tyson

  • @DerPatevsTonyMontana unlikely.

  • @DerPatevsTonyMontana

But lewis is great, and tyson could never beat a great fighter.

  • @DerPatevsTonyMontana

You have no idea do you?

  • would of love to see the LENNOX LEWIS that showed up for tyson FIGHT VITALI KLITSCHKO

  • Tyson went for that fight for the money. He wasn't even really qualified to fight Lewis at that time. He was way past his prime. No wonder it was such an easy win for Lewis. I don't know why this fight is on Legendary Nights. Oh, yes, because it was Tyson vs Lewis. But then let's get Ali vs Frasier next year...

  • watch the one on golota and bowe, they say its not so much about great fights, but great moments in boxing, memorable stuff is what they're lookin for, i think they should do one on the resto collins fight

  • Ali vs. Frazier wasn't on HBO. Legendary Nights is about HBO fights only. The reason it is on Legendary Nights is because it was the biggest PPV in history between two of the greatest heavyweights of a generation, if not ever.

  • wasnt on hbo

  • I don't think it's so much that he wasn't in his prime, which he wasn't, it just he gave up on everything that made him good. Tyson was a good body puncher, had good foot work, was a good boxer who just so happend to have really good power. At this point he had given up on all of that was just had good power. I know what you mean, they fought when they fought, no should've would've could'ves. But I think this is what people are talking about.

  • Tyson was a shell of the great fighter he used to be by the time this came around. At his best he was 220 pds, with great hand speed, amazing combinations and hard to hit. By this point he was over-weight and a head hunter throwing one punch bombs..

  • It's obvious he was not in his prime, thought, no matter how much you hate it.

  • thanks for posting this series, great shows, loved every minute!

  • Tommy Brooks is the man.

  • i love mike

  • Lenox Lewis and Nigel Benn Pride of British boxing.

  • I agree. But Frank Bruno joins them, too.
