This movie is totally awesome! Nearly every shot is a treat for the eyes. I've got a new movie to add to my lists of favourites. This is the kind of movie I dream about making, but now I see that Mario Bava beat me to it before I was born. I love how he was more concerned with visual atmosphere and mood than with story or actors performance, though this movie does have a good story. That's how I look at movies,too.

i brought this on video about 20 years ago expecting a camp comic crappy film... it kept me awake at nights for days after wards.one of the best films id seen considering when it was made.

The plot of this great movie is not far from the original idea L. Ron Hubbard came up with to create Scientology with. Body Thetans are what fill or attach themselves to humans & have to be excised through an expensive process to became "clear". Some early teachings said they crash landed on earth & are stuck here. Sounds like it could be the sequel to this movie. Look up Body Thetans on Wikipedia for more info. It's a hoot!

A movie with a negative ending seems like a more realistic scenario than one where the good guys win all the time.

But then are these alien creatures any worse than we are?

Maybe we are the real monsters after all.

And very primitive compared to them.

I enjoyed this surprising ending, although I admit that I suspected that both of them were possessed by the alien beings.

this movie is awesome, i love vintage sci fi, Forbidden Planet i think is the best. i wish they put more money into FX back then like Forbidden Planet did. or maybe i just dig it because it inspired Star Trek

I love the fact that the women kicked ass in this. Unlike the two women scientist in "It! Terror From Beyond Space". Who when not doing research were fixing dinner for the men, clearing their plates, and then serving them coffee?!

I also like how the sounds of the planet followed them onto the ship after they blasted off the planet.

Well it's amazing all the similarities with Alien, but there's a big difference....in this one they just needed 1 movie to go back to earth, meanwhile, in alien, 3 sequels!!!! Anyway, both are great movies, despite i prefer Bava's Horror ^_^ !!!!!

No offense but this movie was a load of shit!! It was called Planet of the Vampires and there was no fucking vampires. I expected it to be scary not mysterious. Good movie anyway. I'd watch it again.

Well for most Italian horror, Planet of the Vampires had so many titles no one knew what it was so they went with Planet of the Vampires -- pity because it doesn't live up to it, but who cares. If this had vampires in it it would be a giant crock of shit as we all know vampires suck more arse than they do neck.

This was one of my favorite movies as a kid. Whereas most sci-fi movies of the 50's and 60's were brightly lit and shiny and futuristic, this one had all the atomosphere of a gothic horror movie with it's darkness and foggy, twilight skies and spooky sounds. Definately an influence on Alien (with the crashed ship and skeleton pilots), but also Event Horizon.

@bijeto @wisecracker03 yeah it's more realistic. Nothing in our future will be colorful. It's like H.P. Lovecraft essence: How far you go to the universe more horrors of our dreams will happen and we can nothing do. Very pessimistic but I think it's true. In space there is only dead...
