The ejection was probably harder on the pilot than if he had stayed with it. But he/she had no way to know that ahead of time. Pretty hard to open the canopy if you wind up upside down on the bottom! Kept it away from the crowd on the beach, seems like the pilot did as well as could have been hoped for under the circumstance.

It was probably an air show and a mechanical failure, you don't know the circumstances so stop calling the pilot an idiot or anything else

Harrier can not sustain in midair for very long, the engine is extremely hot. Harrier is engineering disaster.

there is no such thing as a PERFECTLY GOOD HARRIER! It is the most deadly and hard to operate plane in peace time (followed by that other hunk of junk, the deadly Osprey)....
The Harrier has killed 50 Marines in peace time and leads the pack by crashes per 100,000 flight hours. In other words ONE THIRD OF THE MARINE CORPS HARRIER JETS HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS! THE MOST DANGEROUS PLANE IN THE ARSENAL.
The Harriers will be gone when the new era x-22 Marine version takes over.

I was there that day it was a ejection test and other tests they did for people. It was cool. They also showed how to take off and land and acrobatic tricks there

@donbuckyxxx - idiot - wrong! Do you think they'd just drop a perfectly serviceable Harrier into shallow sea, write it off and risk the pilot's life with a low level ejection for a test?! The RAF pilot accidentally moved the nozzle lever.
