to explain a fully armed pendekar,-sandang,sword carried across back to be drawn over the shoulder, keris at side of waist sometimes two keris, belati ,knife at back belt, then one or two kerambit in hidden area.Kerambit is for close quarters if the enemy has got past the others sometimes called a grappling blade. Also can have spear, throwing powder.Pendekar is warrior, all these weapons are for war generally
Taoizt, nevermind cutting the throat, you think people will just let you punch them in the face without reacting to stop you? Watch the video carefully and try to understand its a counter for counter drill against an alive opponent. If you dont get it, then sorry to say this video is not up to your level of understanding yet :)
@BroodCast I hate people that comment good demonstrations who dont practice. Well disregard that, Ive trained with someone like that. They just dont get it. We were training with a karambit and he didnt want to cos he thought the blade was too short.
@BroodCast Hahaha feel superior huh? Good luck with that. I'm not saying mr. Mornie is a bad silat player. Just don't get the overkill stuff. It looks a bit like kenpo. It's probably a way of training things. But what I (and probably also someone else ) see is an unarmed man trying to attack a guy with a knife. Then the guy with the knife is slicing up the the unarmed attacker in a number of ways and still trying to control the opponent? The kerambit is meant for killing someone, not hurting.
@taoizt but each person his own flavour. A lot of people like Maul Mornies stuff and he is popular worldwide and for that he has my respect. It's not my thing and that doesn't necessarily make me a fool, but it's always easier to portray me like that. I'm ok with that, whatever rocks your boat.
So you think that cutting the throat with one slice of the kerambit is not enough? And why on earth do you want to control the opponent when you are the one having the blade and he's not? Don't get me wrong, I like the flow of his techniques, he shows great control, but i you have a knife like that in your hands and someone is gonna attack you and you defend with the knife: be aware that you probably will kill the guy. So control in that case is just a fantasy.
I hit the "like" button. Why dont they have a "love it" button. Guru maul that was amazing again and again wow. I will see you and tlapower in NYC in Oct! Enough watching I've gotta go train.........
Taoizt, if you had the priviledge if attending Guru Maul's instructions then you would know he explains the "traditions and culture" of every weapon he uses. This is a highlight from a 6hrs intensive detailed training session, its meant as reference for those who attended. Only a person who doesnt understand strategy against a trained opponent would comment "just cut the throat"; thats like a novice telling a professional heavyweight boxer in the ring "just punch the guy in the face, whats so d
@BroodCast Don't get me wrong I am not discrediting Maul, it's nice stuff to see! Haha the example you give about 'a trained opponent'; if you cut the throat of a 'super grandmaster', still his throat is being cut and it's game over :-)
Although nice I don't see the reason of these techniques. If you are the one carrying the Kerambit, and the attacker is not, then you are already 10-1 in advantage. No reason to get all fancy. Just go for the throat, no showboating. This looks to be honest, rather UNrealistic. Sorry.
Silly! He's demonstrating flow, opportunity to hit targets & control the oppo. By moving & being unpredictable while cutting many targets the oppo is shocked, disorientated, confused and suffers much damage. Just grabbing a guy to go sewing machine is bonehead prison/street crudity. Effective if adrenaline/mental fatigue/stupidity/drugs/booze is affecting your brain but hardly ideal sophisticated fighting. Military like the grab and smash repeat but they have different training needs.
I have to believe this will influence many people to consider attending the Oct 15-16, 2011 seminar in New York. Simply dazzling technique, skill and fluidity. Kudos Guru!
Thats all well and good but someone really punching may simple take you out before you do your fancy moves.
