  • So in teory i could remove wine without bricking lmms?

  • i must say i love LMMS however i cant understand why it must install the windows emulator "WINE" when its compiled for linux, you have any clue about this?

  • @ztealmax

I think it's needed to be able to work with VST plugins.

You don't need wine for other stuff.

  • @spulkagent47 To quote the Mythbusters: "When in doubt; C4!". Therefore, you must play a C4 chord, preferably in a major 7 chord for massive damage, and don't forget to watch those basslines while you're at it!

  • Is it hard to connect a MIDI to LMMS?

  • how much does all those devices cost in total?

  • Comment removed

  • Can anyone tell me how I beat the elf on level 3?

  • how did you get reverb on your samples?

  • I got a pair of RØDE NT1-A microphones for christmas (swag). Since I am not willing to invest thousands of dollars to get some professional programs (and because I'm using Linux), I have a few questions to ask about this program.

Can I distribute the songs I have made if I used the samples that were built-in? For non-profit purposes, that is. Will the makers of those samples hate me?

Can I record sound from a microphone, or should I use another program for this?

    Pardon my bad English, thanks.

  • @idunnomuchboutmusic im pretty sure nobody at linux would hate you if you distributed songs with their samples in it, i did it and i'm hate free :) lol and you cannot record audio into LMMS, you'll need something else like Audacity to do that then you can import it into LMMS. personally i wouldn't recommend LMMS for vocal editing/mastering because it's very difficult to do since there's not many audio editing options.

  • Do you know how to do stuff like dead notes in the LB302 plug in? I'm trying to work on a hard trance song and I want dead notes in it

  • how do you do the appregios?

  • It's free, it's awesome, it really is a great piece of awesome freeware =)

  • When you're broke, LMMS is the way to go. ;)

  • my lmms crashes evrytime i try to import a sample/load a sample :(

  • Is it legal for you to sell music you made with LMMS? ? ?

  • @KISSAproductions is it leagal for you to sell music you made with a fender strat???

  • @KISSAproductions is it legal for you to sell music you made with a computer? ? ?

  • @aaron8989 and @pnnorton k, thanks, i get it now :D

  • Comment removed

  • @KISSAproductions Of course.

  • What is that "no effects" thing? Is it a "string instrument"? Can you be more specific? I'd like to be able to find music containing that instrument.

  • @shipwreck222 Actually, they have nothing to do with each other. The FL Studio import was achieved by reverse-engineering FL Studio's file-format, IIRC.

  • What device is that at 1:30?

  • @jamiew97 A Behringer BCR2000.

  • I have both programs lmms and fl i say fl is better

  • i miss having my keyboard. using the pc keyboard just is lame in comparison. love the song at the first, sounds like something out of borderlands

  • Hello :D..Well I Just Wanted To Say To Check Out My Music Beats I Produced In Linux Multi Media Studio :D...

  • for the sake of not appearing as a LMMS hater, it is great, comes with good free stuff, requieres knowledge of MIXING and much tweaking to get delays reverbs echos EQ's sounding right on some synths (FL studio has plugins wich are pretweaked to help u get to making beats IMMEADIATELY and an easier to use mixer)... once u can learn to use it u can do stuff like this EXAMPLES: watch?v=niLD_bmVFEQ or watch?v=kPjJIcix0tM or watch?v=7Zl1cfVRsVY or watch?v=PjcEJN1-Ug0 (beautiful star wars remake)

  • Aaah, deze gozer hindert mij!

  • I know you were just noodling, but the string arrangement at the end sounded an awful lot like Thomas Newman's earlier soundtrack works. Great job!

  • Had LMMS a while, still struggling to get my head around it! :o/

  • I dont get why people go on about LMMS vs FL.

LMMS is better, mostly because it runs on Linux, does FL do that? Nothing compares to escaping microsuck... Also if you're gonna compare FL to anything, try Cubase, they cost about the same and Cubase will wtfpwn FL any day of the week...

LMMS makes sense because it's free and runs on Linux, nuf said.

  • While FLStudio is still better than LMMS, LMMS has one advantage over FLStudio... well its free. I hope the developers will keep upgrading LMMS it has a bright future.

  • isn't this program disnged for recording live instruments? can someone please help me out here? Sent me an offline message please...Thanks

    Mike

  • actually, that electic piano is badass respect for this video i thumbed it up duno how anyone can thumb this down. its pretty good tunes. :P

  • here is the star wars video that made my jaw drop...to belive something of this caliber was produced in lmms is amazing (this guy's notes and video is good stuiff to) this isnt to steal the uploaders view but to show, if time and effort is [put in, amazing results can come out of it...check it out STAR WARS ACCROSS THE STARS LMMS VERSION! watch?v=PjcEJN1-Ug0

  • can i remix songs using lmms? if yes, how?

  • its reminds me of the music you heard in the old yugioh game for the ps1

    I forgot the name

    frobidden memories I think

    beginning up to 1:10

  • Zydnaddsubfx the best of lmms...

  • Do you think a cheap roll-up midi keyboard would be a good investment for a beginner? It really sucks using a laptop mouse pad to place notes on the piano roll. I know roll-ups don't have velocity detection, but I'm not getting that now anyway.

  • I see tons of "fl studio is better" comments but LMMS is more than enough for most people saying that... lol pirating when there's a free alternative.

  • Neat sounds but is it your vst,the keyboard,I could here you speak.

  • LMMS is a rather nice software considering the cost. It's like "Blender for music" sorta. I think it'd be neat if the automation control channels had beziers and more things that could be dropped in them. (Like all the knobs on a VST such as Synth1.) But I guess that might be something the developers could get to in the future. Still plenty strong as it is.

  • shit haha I had my bass up on my home system for some of the low bass stuff i was listening to and the beginning of this video woke up everyone in my house XD

  • iT'S GREAT SOFT BUT FOR LINUX CAN'T BE COMPARED WITH FL STUDIO

  • i like it! sounds great! ^^

ps: check my songs out! XP

  • Hey, has anybody tried creating a song with LMMS and uploading it to Tunecore, so it gets on itunes. How much money can you make off that?

  • yeah ur right it is pretty impressive for something thats free... im not sure if the FL plugins will work (Itheyre rumored to) like nexus and plugins like vanguard etc..

as u said for ppl on a budget theres bittorrent and cracks those worked quite fine with my installment of FL studio 9 lol

  • LMMS ROCKS!! Yees

  • What keyboard is that you're using? & how exactly do you use the effects? cuz I dont get it at all , lol .

  • Any DAW can do this, duder.

  • @greg81 Yes but LMMS is free and Linux compatible!!

  • @djwela

    Have a look here:

Look up ardour, traverso, puredata, qutecsound, gnutronica . . .

  • @greg81 Thanks!! Even more DAWs for Linux :D Very nice!! And i have Renoise and EnergyXT on my computer too :P these programs is really amazing

  • I downloaded LMMS last night & im still finding new stuff to do with it , it's really fun

  • LMMS is an amazing program, let's you do so much!

  • How did you do the Reverb/Electric piano/Echo effect?

  • what kind of strings are you using? the standard strings??

  • I'm a FL user and I've tried LMMS and I gotta say, it's ALOT like FL.

  • @DofSproductions totaly

  • better? =\ think about to change...

  • fl is better abd easyer to use

  • @DofSproductions kind of a free copy if u ask me :D

  • @DofSproductions no. no it isn't...

  • ppl say lmms is better than FL studio, why? Everyone I ask never replies like for me im a FL studio NEWB but i've fiddled with it for some time got some kicks going. I have linux mint and windows vista lmms installed in linux. The only advantage (from a quick minute i took to play with it) that i saw was that it contains alot more FREE samples and VSTS so u can get to work right away.

One thing i need help with is

Patterns, how do i create different patterns in the beat editor(square thingy)?

  • lol nevermind this video answered my question... i didnt get a chance to finish watching ur vid(my internet timed out) i hate hav ing slow internet. T_T

its in spanish but it answered my ?

    watch?v=_UFnTwln_mI

sorry if i wasted anyones time ^_^

  • lmms prob better because its completely free and its still very fl like.

  • @True2TheBlueYoViGang I've never used LMMS so idk about the program itself, but honestly, the fact that it's free is already a huge advantage. If you're the honest type, you don't need to buy it, and if you're the pirate type, you don't need to search for cracks and risk getting yourself a virus.

  • actually month or so later I played with it one night got to know it's features it pretty much does what FL does. I don't know if it's better or not but it's pretty much on puar with FL Studios. I don't know if FL Plugins would work but if they do then to hell with FL Studio. This freeware/GPL thing is awesome. I can't complain abt it. FL and This are both good. Out of box the VSTS AND SOUNDS that come with it surpass FL's defualt kicks snares and so on. Cool stuff. Everyone try it! :)-

  • A virus? On Linux? lol.

  • @True2TheBlueYoViGang

I think it's pretty impressive for what it can do for free. It's a good starting point for anyone really tight on budget.

  • @mazza558 u can have any program in the world for free :D in case u didn't know

  • how?

  • @koolkid11014 :)) oh loool ... ever heard of searching something on google and adding " free download" at the end ? xD try it ! it's cool

  • @mazza558

yeah, its ok i guess for making some technoish stuff. FL Studio is way advanced though. The VSTS out for it are great. It's so easy to add effects eq and stuff in FL its a little harder in LMMS but almost the same results can get achieved but LMMS is definately NOT better than FL. FL Studio is champion in this department (for now). I hope LMMS continues to grow bigger and better as updates are released.

  • @True2TheBlueYoViGang

Good points. I suppose what I'm showing here is less LMMS than the FANTASTIC Zynaddsubfx synth. It's still the best I've ever used and it doesn't work on anything but LMMS properly at the moment. Sure there's a VST but it's not working just yet ...

  • @mazza558

yeah the synth in the video sounds pretty damn good. No hate on that one. Now if windows VSTS could get supported in a easy way (i heard it is but dont know how) so we can use all those awesome FL studio vsts like Nexus, Vanguard, Ravity and sound packs then LMMS would kick major ass. One thing they gota fix is the PATTERNS they get out of order sometimes making it a pain for me(like one row will have 10 next row will have 4 or something like that). :)~

  • @mazza558: You are right about the Zynaddsubfx synth: many Linux users I know want to just play a little music on their keyboards and JACK is a pain in the ass.

LMMS works on every machine Ive tried to plug in a M-Audio keyboard and the

LMMS/Zyn combination makes them very happy. (I suggest the William Godfrey collection)

All I have to do is explain to them how to enable MIDI input once they start it (I might have to do a video response to save me some time!!) and they can plunk away.

  • @True2TheBlueYoViGang

Yeah, its ok i guess for I didn't pay anything for my LMMS

    LOL!

  • @sapemi08

LMFAO yeah its good hehe... FL is better becuase it has NEXUS(wich u can crack and download more sounds) on it..

  • Comment removed

  • @True2TheBlueYoViGang That's basically why , FL relies more on VSTs and plugins rather than samples . I personally prefer LMMS , it basically has everything you'd need to get started, minus some of the advanced features FL has to offer . I mean they're both very good so you can't really say which is better , that's more up to you & how you handle them both .

  • @True2TheBlueYoViGang

Well, Linux is Freedom and so if LMMS can do almost exactly what FL Studio can do......plus the extra vsts and etc..........then it's obviously a more brilliant product.

  • @mweezy

it wotn work on my ubuntu install it runs for a few minutes then does a random crash. wtf? anybody else find a fix to this. great software but they got to get these bugs worked out its even reported in ubuntu forums with no solutions til this day to the random crash bug(that i know of). I like FL more its more stable (for me) lmms is really cool but wont work. i gave up on it. :x lmms has neat things have you seen the star wars remake video made w/ LMMS that took my breath away?

  • @True2TheBlueYoViGang

Well... if you're buying it, you could go ahead and grab FL!

    Most people pirate it! :(

I prefer LMMS, which I run on my Windows 7 machine and on my Ubuntu Studio.... :)

    Cheers

  • @senhorlampada

lol it crashes nonstop on me in linux im shcoked it works for u. :s

  • @True2TheBlueYoViGang

Maybe you're using it better then I! :D

Do you use lot's of VSTs and stuff?

  • @senhorlampada

random crashing its been reported on websites + ubuntu forums... yet nobody fixed it i heard its still a beta(wtf all this time ? lol) i did how ever try it in windows7 and the windows version seems more stable but then i ended up just downloading FL Studio with some great vsts and um yeah there went LMMS lol. I think the windows version is better supported altho i didnt even start beat making in it i had it open for more than 2 minutes with out a crash in windows yay :D

  • @True2TheBlueYoViGang i've never actually been on FL but apparently it's the same layout as LMMS, but with better sounds and stuff, so they're pretty similar.

  • @omgitsrobsandy

yeah ur right they are very very similar... i no longer use lmms tho... i installed FL studio instead cuz i found some great plugins and i mean tons of sounds for FL studios.. LMMS is behind but its alot closer to FL Studio than i first thought.. they are very similar..except for a few layouts

  • @True2TheBlueYoViGang With FL-Studio, you already have the samples made and just choose the notes (in my opinion, this is noob); with LMMS, people have to make their own sound from zero (in my opinion, this is good)

  • @Pippomone It's that way in LMMS too, that sort of thing is a choice. If you want to be lazy and make stock sample based music (like a lot of LMMS and FL users) then you'll get a lazy result. But if you want something truly genuine you gotta make it yourself (not to say using samples and stock sounds is a sin or anything, if they sound good use em, just don't rely on them so heavily). There are people who can dominate in LMMS and FL Studio if they really wanted too.

  • Which instrument is that at 6:00?

  • "Slow Strings" with Zynaddsubfx.

  • Hey man, what's that MIDI controller (the thing with the knobs) that you're using?

  • It's a Behringer BCR2000.

  • how do you change the tempo in the middle of a song/tune/beat?

  • A newer version of LMMS will have this feature, just need to wait for it.

  • It's already there! Hold Ctrl while you drag the BPM display to an auomation track (maybe add the automation track) .. and start automating :}

  • How do you achieved that stuff, I'm new with lmms and I stil don't know exactly how to install them into lmms

  • OK. I got the psr e-413, and now i have a question about the psr and lmms...so i just connect the psr to the computer, and click the record button? Is it that simple? Cuz when i do it doesn't work.

  • You have to open an instrument in the track editor, and then, in the instrument window, click on the MIDI tab. Then click "enable" for input and choose the Yamaha Keyboard from the drop down menu.

  • would the track editor be the Beat+Baseline editor?

  • ok nevermind i got it thanks!

  • ok thanks a lot! But is there any way to use the same instrument that i use in the keyboard? (eg. I use the voice "alto sax", but LMMS only records the key presses and velocity of each note. How do I make LMMS register the type of instrument I'm using?

  • No, there's no way to access the keyboard's sounds (which is a shame).

  • @mazza558 There is no way t o do that with any program through MIDI. You would need to actually go from your boards output into an input jack on your computer.

  • which electric piano are you using?

  • Yamaha PSR 3-413 - though any MIDI keyboard with a pitch bend can achieve what I demonstrated in the video.

  • ok, thanks man

  • Whoops, it's actually the PSR E-413.

  • Hey, I wish to compose some music with ubuntu, but with no keyboard connected. Only software, is LMMS enough to make full scoreor do I need another packages like software syntesizer, tracker?

  • Aweesome.

  • LMMS is, yes.

  • hey mazza558 i see you use the same name on the ##lmms...lol... your script worked perfect for installing 0.4.5... thanx.... nice vid keep up the good work. u will also have to finish your project,... "demo4".... i have it on my ~/Desktop !!!!

  • This is impressive.
