guys you must understand beat is a bad word to use. Beat means you continuously hit her or beated her. Islam does not teach you to beat. It teaches you that "IF" your wife didn't listen to your requirement or demand you at maximum tap her in the back! That was a fatwa I heard in Saudi TV 1. So if you do more than that it is against islam. For christians & jews & others do hit their wives islam just tells you the limit. So islam gives women more rights. To not be beaten. The bible did not!

What we see here is another example of how contradictory Islam really is. The Qur'an states that after talking, then shunning and refusing to sleep with your wife.....You CAN HIT your wife. There is no information regarding how you should hit your wife, none at all. Now many scholars over the years have attempted to water down this passage because it sounds barbaric (just like the rest of Islam).

In Surah Sâd [38:44]:

"wa khudh bi yadika dhikhthaa fa adhrib bihi..."

"And take in your hand a bundle of thin grass and strike therewith (your wife)..."

The Prophet (salallâhu 'alayhi wa sallam) - in his Farewell Sermon - said:

"...fa adhribû hunna dharbân ghayra mubarrahin..."

"...Hit them in a way that causes no injury..."

With all do respect, i am not a schoolar, but their is a better interpetation to that verse, a right one. Sheikh Imran talks alot of good, but on this subject he didnent got it all so right.
