@40belowceo I saw the teaser, praised it, and wished the creators good luck. So, for you to come on here and spew venom about "not words from a social scientist" is both disrespectful and ignorant. The description says "pieces of footage ..." that would imply that other pieces exist that could have nothing to do with social scientists. In fact, my crew and I have interviewed several of the Wild Cowboys gangsters themselves including ones in the DR. Hating just makes people look pathetic.
Uptown is the historically relevant chronicle of Washington Heights during the rise of crack cocaine. Dominated by powerful stories and based on real life accounts, Uptown will answer the questions most asked about that time when Washington Heights was the Drug Capital of the World, and the people who made the headlines.
You wanted the real story...prepare for the truth.
Iam Italian! but, you gotta give props to the dominicans!business never personal!plus you know that the media is only telling the outcome and never the full story!it's not about racism and color! It's all about the green! There's dudes getting money in every race!
these cats where no different then the rest of those drug demons who wrecked havoc on our inner-city communities during the mid 80's and late 90's here in nyc eff them, Alpo,Supreme Team,Boy George the Mexican drug Kartel etc etc
I've been reading about the Red Top gang (they didn't called themselves "Wild Cowboy", thank the media for that), and I remember they murdered two dudes I knew from my neighborhood. I've seen all the documentraies, but this one I've been waiting for and you guys are taking too long with it......
The latter part of this story (who are the Wild Cowboys) is right & exact, down to the details. I knew all of them, especially Fat Danny. These guys were no joke, and i was around to witness everything from the start of "Based Balls", until crack was a full blown epidemic. Shit, it was on 159th St. that then DA Rudolph Giuliani walked up to a dealer (who i can imagine knew no english) and literally bought 2 $5 vials of crack. That's how serious it got.
if you aint 35 or older plz dont talk shit cuz you wasnt really there. it was wild back then especially when that guy they called freddie kruger got in the mix dead bodies was poppin up all over town
@ohsoostrong and u praise that shit like its a good thing for u to say some shit like that about all of ur peoples perpetuates that stereotype that ALL dominicans sell drugs.
why is this snitchumentary just interviews with sociologists that talk too slow. why not talk to people in w heights. too scared. this guy is obviously a fag
It's says in the description..."Pieces of footage...pertaining to the Wild Cowboys documentary." That would imply that other pieces - that might include interviews from the real life gangsters - exist. I've been in touch with and have spoken to many of them in and out of jail. Also, my crew and I have been to Washington Heights countless times to shoot video. In fact...we were there this past weekend shooting B-Roll in front of the building on 177th where Frankie Cuevas was killed.
Read "Wild Cowboys Urban Marauders" if you like Gangsta Stories.
I remember "Yayo" from back in his hey in Santiago DR. He appeared on the scene back in 86' like the new sheriff in town.He would flaunt his custom White AMG Benz's around town, and people watched in amazement. He was like a star back then. Heard he's DL'd now. Older & Wiser.
The first rough cut of the trailer (preview) for the Wild Cowboys documentary - WANTED: THE WILD COWBOYS is on my page. Just type in "wild" "cowboys" "crack" 'Lorenzo" and "trailer" in the search box above and it should come up. Peace.
To everyone who inquired about the release of "The Wild Cowboys" documentary. The documentary will be finished and ready for release in late 2010. The movie will also be in pre-production during that time. Please stay tuned. And thank you for all your emails concerning the production.
Would like to see a movie about that era, perhaps independent film, but the shit has to be official. Real dudes acting. Raw interpretations of that history. Not some Hollywood interpretations.
Would also like to see a movie about "Cocaine Cowboys" in Miami.
funny how i grew up on 174th street. i ask my dad about the wild cowboys and he tells me CRAZYYYYY SHIT! i stay with my mouth open, in the building i live now, i heard the wild cowboys threw someone off the roof.
Dominicans created it? I could of swor the word was that a Jamaican cooked that shit up in like 81/82 in Jamaica (the island). Plus people were free basing cocaine in the 70's with ammonia/ether and shit like that.
Colombians had bazooka/bazooko.... since cocaine has been around.
Jackson Heights 82nd street 7 Train
Colombian, Ecuadorian and Peruvian neighborhood, do the math.
There are many stories about who made what and who did what as far as the origins of crack cocaine. The more I research for the documentary the more ONE STORY keeps coming up and it's this: Colombian Chemists who worked for the cartels discovered crack. They invented it. The cartels saw Yayo as a marketing genius (since at one time he had over 100 men on the streets selling coke), so they approached him and asked him to sell the "new" drug. And he didn't let them down.
Fam, this shyt happened 20 years ago, anyone who hasn't been indicted already is safe. The Statute Of Limitation on those crimes have passed. Only murder has no statute of limitation. Yayo and a few others fled to D.R, so the shyt we saying is already known by 5-0. The DEA has been trying to extradite him back to the U.S for years. This isn't like BMF, who just fell a few years ago and cats can still get wrapped up. But I do agree, the streets is watching!
There's a book from 1992 called "Dead on Delivery" by Robert Stutman and Richard Esposito, which I copped on Amazon. They have a chapter called "When Crack Was King", which talked about the "Based Ball" operation and those Lido cats, who had a slightly smaller operation ran by the Ramos Brothers. They got hemmed up, before they could flee the country.
P.S: That book has a chapter on Boy George's "Obsession" heroin ring too, right before this one, that's good reading.
As far as "freebasing" - crack cocaine was a "kind" of freebasing. The act of freebasing was the REMOVAL of the impurities from the cocaine to experience the main ingredient of the product. Crack itself was the ADDITION of chemicals (like baking soda) in order to make a rock form of the drug which could be burned to extract the smoke to inhale. Two different approaches to the same result. The danger w/crack was that it was cheaper than freebasing. So, the 'high' was easier to acquire.
Jackson Heights is the section of Queens bordered by Junction Blvd., Roosevelt Avenue, Astoria Blvd, and Broadway. The people that comprise its the population are Dominican, Colombians, Peruvians, and Mexicans. It used to be all Irish in the 60's and early seventies. I grew up in Jackson Heights.
Yeah you right. I still got some old mags from the like 90-91. US News & World Report did a expose called the "Men Who Created Crack" and Yayo was in it, the Chambers Brothers, Shower Posse etc. As far as Jamaicans, they said some Jamaican cat named Elijah had "rock houses" in Miami back in 82. Miami-Dade police didn't even know what the shyt was. Supposedly, the Jamaicans who got coke from Yayo (Coke Is It), showed him how to cook it and the rest is history.
