  • Broadsword calling Danny Boy......... What a text alert that would be. Has to be one of the best quotes of all time.

  • 20 people dislike this......you must be Nazi scum, no surender

  • One of my very favourite films. Yes, the whole adventure, the music, the scenery. Exciting from start to finish. No to a remake!

  • I heard there may be a remake of this brilliant adventure.

How could they hope to better this?

    .

  • Wow so cool *cries

  • jesus H christ = thiss iss brilliant

  • Cliched I know but Boys Own stuff from the opening to the end credits. No fancy cgi just good honest photography and acting with a brilliant soundtrack . God forbid they try a remake, this is a classic left well alone as it can't be bettered.

  • "huhhhh hhhhhh hhuhhhh hhhhuhhhh hManitobensis, hhhhuhhh"

  • Best watched in the darkness of a cinema.

  • "Where Eagles Dare" is the best movie of all time! these modern movies like transformers, and other computer movies cant touch the classics.

  • Herr 240p ... ve meet again

  • The beggining of Castle Wolfenstein were you have to get out of the Castle is like this movie.

  • Um dos clássicos de guerra, ao lado de "Os Canhões de Navarone" e "Comando 10 de Navarone".

  • Favorite all time war movie

  • at ease

  • They should so make a game of this!

  • @badassmarine50 they did make a game of this , it's basically "Return to castle wolfenstein" have you played that? (its loosely based on this)

  • GENIAAL GECOMPONEERD DIT!

  • 19 people obviously didn't hear Broadsword calling Danny boy.

  • Nothing takes me back to my childhood like this movie does. This movie had everything a young boy (and middle aged guy) could ever wish for. The ultimate bad guys vs. the ultimate good guys, breath taking scenery, a castle, mystery, adventure, espionage, tension, explosive action and two beautiful women!

  • Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood kicking ass on Nazis in an Alastair MacLean story and add a score by Ron Goodwin you have a great movie!

  • Simply the best boy's own war film bar NONE!

  • Ron Goodwin did great movie music, it fitted really well.

  • I really like this music, and it's a classic movie! Even read the book twice. The book is even better spesially whan i have seen the movie :-)

  • @RichLN This is the best joke I've heard in years pal! LOL!!!

  • @MrPosh55 It was a little preposterous, you have to admit. Everything the heroes shot at seemed to flip and explode, and the plan was so over-the-top that it stretched imagination. How could the Brits know that Cartwright Jones and the double agents would be conveniently dining with the commandant? How could they jump from a cable car into ice water and just carry on? The list is long! Nevertheless, when I saw it as a kid I thought it was just great; lots of twists and thrills.

  • @carmium All valid points but you must remember, they did have Clint.

  • @RichLN Totaly dissagree, was a great war movie, slash adventure. A good ww2 yarn.

  • The contrasting acting styles of Burton and Eastwood complete the movie.

  • Awesome movie!

  • if some one have this movie or have web adress to i will found it in hindi dubbed

so plz tell me i love this movie very much

  • bonus points for those who realise that Schloss Adler translates as Eagle Castle in english.

  • This film is pretty good, like the theme music and the snowy sequences early on.

  • love this film :X

  • general rosemeyer: (standing, monacle out of right eye)... "THIS IS PREPOSTEROUS"!!!

  • even though i first saw this movie as an adult, it still always reminds me of my childhood quest for adventure. this is a truly great adventure movie.

  • "broad sword calling danny boy "

  • @creativeprojects720 :This is Danny boy, over.

  • @creativeprojects720 :"Danny boy calling Broadsword, all sins forgiven "

  • @TheHasanMurat "we need transport!, over"

  • 19 people are just babbling about silly ssings like Düsseldorf.

  • @coolspruta Meanwhile, over 1000 people realize zat zee cazeedral vas on zee ozer zide of ze shquare.

  • this is probably one of the best ww2 action movies ever made, if not the best.

  • My grandma showed this film to me every month when I was little, and I still own that copy on VHS. this is by far my favourite World War 2 film, the score is absolutely incredible, and so is the acting.

  • 19 people doens't know where the eagles dare.

  • I was watching this on t.v. Clint looks great

  • this is genius

makes my hair stand on end

  • Did the Allies have access to a Junkers JU 52 then?

  • @darkarts59 they could have stolen it, both sides did that sort of thing often

  • @darkarts59 naa, only captured ones, i dont know what year this is supposed to be. Its fiction anyway...They could etc have rebuild a crashed downed Junkers plane from England.

  • My favorite war movie and one of the best themes of all time. Richard Burton at his best.

  • For me this is the first ever modern movie: lots of cuts (asl of just 6 seconds), very violent (highest body count of any Clint Eastwood film) and a script as tight as a drum (the opening scene drops you right in the action with the back story given by flashback)

  • Thank you for posting this. And thank you, Alistair MacLean for this book, The Guns of Navarone, Force 10 from Navarone, Ice Sation Zebra, and H.M.S. Ulysses (a damn sad story if there was one.)

  • This film should not work Burton is clearly hung over, it has no sense of realism it has some quite ludicrous plot devices but yet I can't help watching it when it's on TV. It's like watching a Roger Moore Bond film ridiculous but compelling.

  • 19 People couldnt get hold of "Danny Boy"

  • Definitely one of the best WW2 movies. Used ro be my favorite when I was a kid.

  • not the best but a good film except a few of the nazi soildiers had suspenders on them

  • when i first heard this music i thought what a load of crap then i saw the film and my outlook totally changed . watching the junkers flying low through the mountains was brilliant

  • This theme kinda reminds me of the Nazi motif from the Indiana Jones films...

  • Playing this in youth orchestra and I love the percussion at the beginning.

  • cool beats and fun sounds

  • I have always liked war movies, but this is unusual war movie. It shows war from the other side, than I'm used to see. It's movie full of great scenes (for instance in the room with fireplace or duel at the cableway). It's my favorite cloak-and-dagger movie.

  • abba abba abba ...emaina music aa?

  • AWESOME main theme. Thx for uploading!

  • all the movies a nazi is killed i like, DESTROY THOSE FUCKING BASTARDS!

  • This is my all-time favourite war film, total tosh but very well done. And it played an instrumental part in the development of the classic computer game 'Return to Castle Wolfenstein - Operation Resurrection', anyone who has played that game and seen this film will know the similarities between them. The castle and especially the cable car were based on this film. Great stuff...

  • @amk110270

i noticed that too, the first 3 missions are clearly and undoubtedly inspired by this movie.

  • open case.............."hello".......

  • @DoomlordProductions one of my favorite scenes by far. hilraious XD

  • Thanks for posting - this is a great clip! My family and I just went on a trip to the mountains and a cable car ride - and the first thing I thought about was this film and its wonderful score.

  • This film has many inaccurancies.... but who cares, since it's quite obviously pure fiction?

    The best WW 2 film.

  • Saw this all the time when i was a kid and my grandma and granddad was looking after me..... they didnt like fucking germans either

  • If they came out with a film on the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden, they should use this soundtrack for when the helicopters arrived at the compound

  • The book I've read by one night. The one of bests.

  • Broadsword Calling Danny Boy , WICKED FILM ,,

  • Are you there danny boy ???????????????????

  • I loved this theme when I was a child and decades later, I still get goosebumps listening to it, ya :)

  • Great movie!

  • Comedy film.Geramns could not shoot proper.

  • great tune

  • @pienskybynby Ron Goodwin.

  • Aaa...Good old Wolfenstein..

  • One of the best film themes ever. But so simple, in many ways.

  • @SuperChuckRaney:

In the book this is explained by the way of the road being hidden under several metres of snow and so being unusable.

  • @trekaddict thanks Trek. I have not read the book, does it come on DVD ? > ahhahaha

The video I talked about showing the castle is here on youtube somewhere, I found it AFTER this one. it is a Tour of the castle and grounds. very nicely done.

It would make sense that it is covered with snow, everything else on location is and the road is very steep and winding.

  • Amazing theme tune from one of the greatest war films ever-unforgettable! Ron Goodwin on a level with John Barry for theme scores!!

  • Having seen this Movie several times, I always thought the Castle itself was on an isolated PEAK. Accessed only by the Cable Car or a donkey trail.

I found another YouTube vid that shows the real location. Has a road right to the back door.

    I was SO disappointed.

  • @SuperChuckRaney Ha ha. Reminds me of that scene in Kurosawa's "Hidden Fortress" where the two guys make a five minute climb up a hill, then it turns out there's a secret tunnel :)

  • @HenryvKeiper "Where Eagles Dare by kretze" post that shows for me under Suggestions to the right >>>>>

this vid has a tour (still photos) with the "theme" played during the slideshow.

Right at the end it shows a castle map and lay out.

  • @HenryvKeiper Yes, but it was secret. So they couldn't have known it before right? It's like when you take a plane to some city in a world and it takes 8 hours till you get there. Maybe there is a secret bike which can transport you to the same city within 3 minutes. But if you don't know it, you have no choice right? :D

  • I have seen this movie more then 12 times. The first time I saw this movie I was like 6 or 7 years old. That is more then 11 years a go right now and this movie is still one of my all time favorites together with The Great Escape and the Longest Day. I actually have a realy big movie poster of this film in a nice big frame in my game/movie room.

    I love WW2 movies. Have more then 350 WW2 movies on dvd's and blu-ray.

Clint Eastwood is also my all time favorite actor and director!

  • @SuperChuckRaney Was that road there during the war?

  • @SuperChuckRaney yeah but it IS on a high peak though. I have been there watching eagle games.

  • @SuperChuckRaney the film did try to stay close to the book , but anyway , how could you build a damn great castle without a road to get the cement up there ?

    Had to be one .

he worst bit of the film was that helicopter , could have mocked something up looking more period just by sticking tape strips to the bubble .

And the Harvard trainers pretending to be luftwaffe fighters on the airfield at the film's end .

But other than that , very good film .

  • @SuperChuckRaney Re your comment on where eagles dare, never find out how a film is made,

    they will all disappoint you.

  • @SuperChuckRaney thats what i thought they called this movie where doubles dare

  • This movie is one of the best war/military movies of all time, but for some reason somewhat forgotten by many. Classic Eastwood and Burton. One of Eastwoods' best. When this theme is heard in concert it will make the hair stand up on your neck, and you can just see the JU88 and the snow, and the castle.

  • Everything was good in this movie expect the Helicopter part because it was a Helicopter from 60's

  • clint eastwood looks good in kraut uniform

  • If I were a figure skater, I'd skate a long program to this.

  • @mphrdldn I'd do Rihanna to it.

  • god this theme gives me goosebumps! :D

  • Someone mentioned "hypothermia from the drenching in the river".. remember, the Uniforms were WOOL back then.... made a difference! Wool will help keep you warm even when wet.. and an MP40 taking out the tower??? quite possible, for a guy who knows how to SHOOT (trajectory wise)..... but it's for entertainment! LOL!

    A "10" in my book........

  • "...and you gentlemen are, I trust, stealthy and secretive..."

  • Great movie, featuring great performances by Richard Burton,Clint Eastwood....and Ingrid Pitt's *awesome* cleavage!

  • hope at least some of your folks were able to see this on the big screen, as I was lucky enough to have done. well, at least see if you can view it on a projection t.v. some of movie theaters ought to re-run some of these good flicks at reduced prices so ppl can see 'em on the big screen and maybe have a commentator after the film to lead discussion.

  • I saw this film when it came out. The scenery is incredible and the score unforgetable. I rented a copy and showed it to my two sons, and they were hooked on the story as much as I was origninally.

  • Dear Friends, this film strike a chord with me. My family were members of the Italian Resistance. In the town centre, in Italian Alps, was the Headquarters of the German Armies in Italy; just above, in the forest, was my grandmother and mother house, the Headquarters of the Resistance. Many and many dramatic events took place, which could provide the material for many films like “Where the Eagles Dare”.

  • @CRMRCA52 and when did they join the resistance

  • As a child this was my favourite film of all. I saw it once and then waited, what seemed an eternity, to see it again. This must be one of the greatest film openings ever, up there with 'Get Carter' (1971.)The Junkers Ju-52 (Tante Ju) hugging the peaks as our boys enter a somewhat suicidal, false flag mission deep behind enemy lines. McLean's plot is absolutely brilliant. A glorious, over the top, boy's own adventure, and as such it could hardly be any better.

  • @MrTurnandslip same here man, I still love it though. Top 10 ever for me :). I really wish they still made WW2 movies of this style (longer, more dialogue, more adventure less "realistic", etc.)

  • @MrTurnandslip AMEN!!!! Watch it all the time. Score is brilliant.

  • @MrTurnandslip - This part is better than the book. In the book, its a Lancaster in a blinding snow storm, so you would never see these awesome scenes.

  • Great movie! I must have it at least ten times. Very entertaining.

  • i thought it was about the iron maiden song

  • Much better than 'Broke Back Mountain'

  • Composer Ron Goodman wrote just terrific film scores for a whole bunch of 60's WW2 movies...the first one of his to be added to my collection (which now numbers over 300) was 633 Squadron, found in a $1 bin at a discount department store in 1981.

  • " Not so hasty, Leftenant.......we mustn't cheat the hangman "

  • and you've reminded me of grand torino were clint says "ever notice how sometimes you come across somebody you shouldn't have #^*#ed with?" Well, I'm that guy"

  • @abcdefghijk70833 And just for good measure, a line from "For a Fistful of Dollars":

*Clint walks towards the German fortress, stopping briefly to turn to a random coffin maker*

    "I'm gonna need three...hundred."

  • @HenryvKeiper

when the coffee maker says no clint says “I tried being reasonable, I didn't like it.”

  • i never understood how clint got the guy in a airfield tower with an MP40 machine pistol.

  • @abcdefghijk70833 He's Clint, duh. Give the Man with No Name an MP40 and he'll do even more damage than he already does.

  • @HenryvKeiper

for a fistfull of dolars too.

  • @abcdefghijk70833 Ah yes. Maybe what helped Clint survive contact with the Germans was he had a metal plate under his uniform.

  • @HenryvKeiper

because of that the punk felt lucky.

  • @abcdefghijk70833 "And a second-rate punk at that." ;)

  • @HenryvKeiper a punk who, when he wants a guarrantee, gets a toaster.

  • @abcdefghijk70833 Now I'm reminded of the movie "Tommy Boy," and I'm imagining of Richard Burton telling Clint Eastwood, "Look, you want me to take a dump in a box for you and mark it 'guaranteed' I will - I've got spare time."

  • @HenryvKeiper

    he also probably felt lucky

  • Richard & Clint were greatly aided by the fact the Germans couldn't seem to hit anything with their weapons or notice anything going on right in front of them. Despite this (and very convoluted plot) it's a wonderful movie that has obviously influenced the Indiana Jones films.

  • (don't give me crap) but i liked the book more :)

  • @riddledwADD OMFG BANZORS!!!

I kid :P I believe there are some noticeable differences between the two (although I haven't read the book, I'm sad to say)

  • Mark Gattis must be a fan of this film, in the Dr Who epsiode Victory of The Daleks a radio operator is heard saying Broadsword calling 'Danny Boy, Broadsword calling Danny Boy 'cue an hour of my time trying to remember where I had heard it before. I eventually got it and without reference to google. I must remind myself to get a life sometime.

  • Now this is proper theme intro, just epic....They just dont get any better than this..plus the added bonus of Burton and Eastwood of course......

  • Great theme tune to one of the greatest ever films made, makes my hair on the back of my neck stand on end :-)

  • This is easily one of the most suspenseful action packed edge of you seat movies I have ever seen, I was greatly impressed.

  • @RevBillyRayCollins

same here saw it as a kid and now in 29 and still amazed!!

  • great movie, makes one live it,

my father under patton in Africa told stories but more were screw ups that got lucky

rather than, intellegent moves. Dad said it was most of the time which side screwed up less that one battles.

  • @donze52 Your Dad was great to admit that.

  • @mphrdldn

common shoe guy, I made a few videos on him, and south west Nebraska people

you may enjoy, go to (donze52) on youtube

even got a film on (the coldest women I ever met)

  • i feel like invading Poland when i hear this music.

  • @ivangrozny27 FUNNY I like that !

  • @ivangrozny27 haha ... wtf ?

  • The Krauts used 10 different helicopters themselves at least in world war 2 .. when did you think they were invented lol

  • The intro to this superb movie is enthralling, with the musical score, the scenery and the engine noises of the plane:It brings you right in to the movie.I always liked Anton Diffring as well as Burton/Eastwood-he always played the German officer role with great style. Thanks for posting!

  • @SZYGY7 Anton Diffring and Derren Nesbitt's characters appeal to my dark side.

  • Was there a ww2 movie with more great stunts;especially the ski lift extravaganza Love it;very fun film.

  • this probably my favorite movie of all time !

  • @tonythetiger1man "SIT DOWN COLONEL!!!"

  • @MaxPayne0102 best quote of all time. well said.

  • great music score!

  • Music Composed and Conducted by RON GOODWIN, best War movie composer of all times!

  • I have no doubt in my mind that this is the BEST war movie ever made...grew up with this , had everything in it , from SOE to Clint Eastwood....broadsword calling dannyboy....awesome.......and written by a Scotmans...all good!

  • My favorite war movie of all time, action packed, thrilling and entertaining! "Broad Sword to Danny Boy"!

  • Aww(!!) It looks to be cold´n dark, and I haven´t slept tonight. I don´t want to jump out of that plane. Please, I wanna do this summertime(!?)

  • Mary Ure was sooo hot!!

  • @24765968 They had helicopters back then. That discussion has been discussed ad nauseum in the helicopter video.

  • @HenryvKeiper You are indeed right, I shall do my research before posting comments. However I always thought that the helicopter scene in the film was always a little "out of place" and uneccessary.

  • @24765968 Just be thankful there weren't any James Bond-like helicopter chases or crashes :)

  • @HenryvKeiper Like in You Only Live Twice

  • @HenryvKeiper yes, this movie was "over the top" but in a more literal way.. I see the Warner gestapo has removed some other scenes I had saved...

  • Brilliant! No one discusses the unbelievable car escape scene, allied proof grenades, escape through a freezing river that does not cause hypothermia let alone death, mass destruction and death
