  • It goes ridiculously fast, does anyone know where there is a diagram that can be followed? (For the stitching that is.)

  • It took me a long time to find a demo on how to do this lol. I need a book of xuan paper for chinese ink painting... about 4x7 or a bit bigger.... do you know where they sell these?

  • tolles video!

  • /watch?v=Gd_wfw-y3H Q

    books...

  • Well and what is Japanese about this? I used to bind my journals as a kid like this, and i am german. But well, ok at least i know now, that my style was not wrong and that i am close to being a real bookbinder *G*

  • Well and what is Japanese about this? I used to bind my journals as a kid like this, and i am an Inuit from the north pole.

  • Well said... the question now is: Does it make any difference to the fact that it works?

All i am pointing out is, that it may now be Japanese standard, but it is, indeed, the easiest and most logical way to bind a book if you have close to no idea...

  • It's widely accepted that this sewing pattern is strongly associated with East Asia due to its widespread use (and most likely, invention as well) in these regions. I'm not sure where you're getting that this is "now Japanese standard," AFAIK casing-in and perfect binding are respectively the hardcover and paperback standards worldwide. And if you get into library/conservation methods, the techniques get much more numerous. I'd say this is more a traditional/fine art technique, even in Japan.

  • The music:)

  • I used to eat Udon noodles as a kid in NYC. Nevertheless, Udon noodles were Japanese noodles. Does that help?

  • After watching about 10 other videos on book binding I find this one. The technique is simpler than the other ones, and the result is more beautiful, with more room for creativity. Thanks!

  • ohhhhhhhhh!!

    grasiassssss!!!

  • the painting part sort of resembles 'batik painting', but much more of a more modern type. :D

  • the band is Jazzomatics.

The glue is elmer's school glue

The paper and paint was a style of art called intagio. You drip wax onto the paper in a pattern and then paint the paper. The ironing part is to remove the wax. Can also paint first and wax over for the multi-toned toned effect. Can be done with student-quality watercolors. For more information on intagio, look at the Easter Egg how-to's.

  • thanks for posting this. the way the end knot was hidden within the book was super cool and i ended up using that technique for my own project after seeing this. super helpful.

  • How can we get this music? Great video.

Were the cover papers pre-glued? Contact paper? What?

    Beautiful books!

  • Wow beautiful! but what really got my attention was the beautiful hand made brigth color papers..how did they get the partens to reject the paint?...

  • its simple : just use a wax crayon and drawwadever pattern u want and make sure its waxy enough or else it will ruin ur effort , paint silighty diluted paint over it and volia ! Its done! Tip: try to use darker colored paints

  • what kind of glue is used in this video?

  • can someone please tell me what songs are used in this video? THEY'RE AMAZING.

  • The music is from a german band called 'Jazzomatics' (I am the bassplayer).

  • cool

  • How can we get this music? It's not in iTunes and I can't find it online, at least not to download (or buy!)

  • i think this method was originated from china? Coz i've seen this type of binding in a lot of chinese drama shows.

I always wonder how they tie it up with strings. Thanks for the videos =)

  • i'm searching a tutorial for binding a manga, and... i found it!

  • GREAT video! Well filmed and educational.. beautiful end product!

  • i had no idea there was a community of people who did this. I made a book for my girlfriend recently with a sewing needle and a hammer haha. Lets just say it was an excruciatingly long process in which i had no idea what i was doing. But the end product was great.

  • it's a bone spatula, called "Honebera" in Japanese

  • what is that plastic, knife like tool called?

  • It's also called a bone folder. You can find it in most crafts and art stores. It's made in either wood, plastic, or actual bone (I think). I have a plastic one myself.
