Pommerania belonged to Germany since 1181, The duchy of Breslau since 1250 followed by several other Silesian duchies. In 1368 all of Silesia belonged to the German Empire. The territories were populated by German settlers and merchants. The same in Eastern Prussia, which remained its German speaking majority during the time where Poland conquered Eastern Prussia in the Middle Ages. Only in the southern part of Eastern Prussia (Allenstein), Polish settler made up to 1/3 of the population.

@GracjanCiastko 3.5 million of the so called Polish were Jews who died in the holocaust. And at least another 1 to 1.5 million were killed by the Russian troops or died deported in Siberia, and were not killed by Germans. And only because Silesia belonged to Poland from the 10 to 12 th Centuary, it does not make Silesia a historically Polish country. It was build up, settled and populated by Germans since the 12/13th century. They build it up so historically it was their country (until 1945).
@GracjanCiastko - Wrong, only in Upper Silesia remained an appreciable amount of Polish speaking people, thats why also these so called Silesians uprisings by the Polish minority only happend there, because they did not want to accept the fact, that the majority of the Upper Silesian population voted 60 % over 40 % to stay a part of Germany and not to become part of the newly founded Poland. Lower Silesia instead was populated by nearly 100 % by Germans only since the 13th century.
@GracjanCiastko Only Upper silesia (Southern part) stayed ethnically in many parts Slavic/Polish - apart from the big cities like Kattowitz or Beuthen which had all a vast German majority. Thats why the Uprising, which occured under disappointed Poles because the democratic poll in the Silesian population in 1921, to which country Upper Silesia should belong to, was not in favour for the Polish (60 % voted for Germany).
And in 1335 Silesia became part of the Holy German Empire like Bohemia.

Poland could have chosen to build the pipeline and earn a respectable income to pay for it and make a profit, and use the source for internal gas distribution, but Poland wanted too much for too little. The Nordsteam gas pipe has NOTHING to do with upgrading Polish Baltic Ports. Likely it will also loose the links for the electricity grid. It will likely also go into the Baltic.

When in 1919 Poland was reconstituted it immediately went to war (with German trained and armed Polish Legions) into Lithuania, Russia and the Ukraine and was after that with a Riga Line and 40% fo the people NOT Polish. It is hard to imagine how beautiful this city was pre1939 and I don't think any reparations were ever received to rebuild the city. When you consider all the assistance given to Germany to rebuild after the war, how could the country be so poorly treated by it's allies. Makes you wonder.

Pommerania belonged to Germany since 1181, The duchy of Breslau since 1250 followed by several other Silesian duchies. In 1368 all of Silesia belonged to the German Empire. The territories were populated by German settlers and merchants. The same in Eastern Prussia, which remained its German speaking majority during the time where Poland conquered Eastern Prussia in the Middle Ages. Only in the southern part of Eastern Prussia (Allenstein), Polish settler made up to 1/3 of the population.

Thats about it.
There is no secret conspiracy plan by the German government to get those territories back.

As a compensation Poland got the 100.000 square-km of the historic Eastern territory of germany (Silesia, Pommerania, Eastern Prussia), which was worth far more than any damage happend to you in the war. Our debt is (highly over)payed.

And at least another 1 to 1.5 million were killed by the Russian troops or died deported in Siberia, and were not killed by Germans. And only because Silesia belonged to Poland from the 10 to 12 th Centuary, it does not make Silesia a historically Polish country. It was build up, settled and populated by Germans since the 12/13th century. They build it up so historically it was their country (until 1945).

@GracjanCiastko - Wrong, only in Upper Silesia remained an appreciable amount of Polish speaking people, thats why also these so called Silesians uprisings by the Polish minority only happend there, because they did not want to accept the fact, that the majority of the Upper Silesian population voted 60 % over 40 % to stay a part of Germany and not to become part of the newly founded Poland. Lower Silesia instead was populated by nearly 100 % by Germans only since the 13th century.

@GracjanCiastko Only Upper silesia (Southern part) stayed ethnically in many parts Slavic/Polish - apart from the big cities like Kattowitz or Beuthen which had all a vast German majority. Thats why the Uprising, which occured under disappointed Poles because the democratic poll in the Silesian population in 1921, to which country Upper Silesia should belong to, was not in favour for the Polish (60 % voted for Germany).
And in 1335 Silesia became part of the Holy German Empire like Bohemia.

@FRANKyyyyy100 No I don't. I've never asked for that, even though on my mother's side we lost everything that had been built up over 500 years. (Her family name is on the Treaty of Wehlau). I was very young when we ran from Schlobitten to get to our own home when the Polish thugs arrived and started killing, Poles as well as Germans. We got out on the second last train ever to leave Danzig and made it. You can keep it all as far as I'm concerned.

The Prussians, Pomeranians, Kasubians (part of my own heritage) and yes (some Poles too) do NOT accept the official Polish History wipes our 900+ years of history on those lands by ignoring it or claiming that these peoples were "guests" under Polish sovereignty and can be ignored. I have laid out many times (and am in the last edit of a book) about how the thing really started when you can find your way under the layers of propaganda. The Poles in 1919 to 1939 also had very inept and risk-taking government that found a way to may enemies with all its neighbours, and carries a substantial part of the "blame" for the ignition of the war.

I know Poles do not like to read what I write, but I am content with knowing that it puts enough doubt in their heads to have them research it. @FRANKyyyyy100 You are BADLY misinformed. The reason for Nordstream is that Poland demanded too high a price. Poland could have chosen to build the pipeline and earn a respectable income to pay for it and make a profit, and use the source for internal gas distribution, but Poland wanted too much for too little. The Nordsteam gas pipe has NOTHING to do with upgrading Polish Baltic Ports. Likely it will also loose the links for the electricity grid. It will likely also go into the Baltic.

Poland had fouled up its relations with Lithuania about both the energy grid development and the pipeline between the two countries. Why do you blame the Germans or Russians?

Like the Lisbon Treaty negotiations showed where Poland stood alone against the 26 countries, Poland is probably not mature enough for the responsibilities of EU membership. Erika Steinbach is doing the right thing. The expelled Germans deserve their history to be known. Poland tries to refute that the Germans that lived there for 900 years every lived there and built what they built. Stupid.

Why doesn't Poland listen and start to devolve power in the same way to Silesia, Polish Galicia, Prussia, Pomerania? Centralized government does not work as well. Gorzelik is right. @FRANKyyyyy100 ... When a Pole who owns a house in Germany leaves Germany to live in Poland, that person is NOT required to give the house WITHOUT COMPENSATION to the State of Germany. Nor is that so in any other western country. It is Poland that needs a change in mentality, and maybe finally it is coming. Poland needs to repect PROPERTY RIGHTS like all western countries or go back to being communist.

When in 1919 Poland was reconstituted it immediately went to war (with German trained and armed Polish Legions) into Lithuania, Russia and the Ukraine and was after that with a Riga Line and 40% fo the people NOT Polish. Even David Lloyd George gave a speech at the Conference of Genoa in 1922 where he stated that he wanted Poland's eastern border to move west and be made more reasonable because he feared that war would break out from Russian anger. The League demanded that Poland pull back from Vilnius. Poland disobeyed and started ethnic cleansing. Millions of Ukrainians were pushed out. They HATED Poland. @PolandisEvenGreat So "Dude" learn a little something. POLAND'S CONDUCT was also responsible for the onset of 1939 to 1945. By trying so hard to talk the French into having a two-sided war against Germany (on three different occasions that negotiated for an attack on Germany) Poland helped make sure of Germany's need to develop a stronger military. Poland actually expected to WIN in 1939 and be in Berlin by Christmas.. Stop whining. You brought it on yourselves!!

It is hard to imagine how beautiful this city was pre1939 and I don't think any reparations were ever received to rebuild the city. When you consider all the assistance given to Germany to rebuild after the war, how could the country be so poorly treated by it's allies. Makes you wonder.

Biorąc pod uwagę co Warszawa przeżyła to jest teraz jednym z najpiękniejszych miast. Przynajmniej dla mnie. Jest jeszcze wiele do zrobienia ale z roku na rok jest coraz lepiej i widać ogromne zmiany na lepsze. Teraz to po prostu inne miasto, więc nie można tak wprost porównywać z tym co było przed 1944 r.

Nazi Germany and Russia had occupied destroyed Poland. Nazi had set up their concentration camps such as the one in Auschwitz where they exterminated peoples of about 27 different nationalities. And now western me dia including new york times call these Nazi concentration camps as "Polish concentration camps". Isn't it amazing how easy it is to change the history? I only became aware about a week ago, that there are medias who would call the concentration camps in poland polish concentration camps, to me it was always clear, that they were german concentration camps in poland. Nazi germany (with the help of my country) has turned your country in a cemetary. Also I have always read about the distruction of Warszawa after the uprising, but I was shocked to see how greatly it was destroyed. I did not know!

BTW: I am of part Hungarian heritage whose father's family suffered courtesy of the Soviets after WW II. Do I hate those Russians, etc. age 80 on down in the year 2010 for what some of their ancestors had done? Of course not.
