  • Lol..."Teen Age Riot"...R.E.M really was ahead of every band by at least 3 years.

  • esto es energía y lo demás, mierda

  • I didn't realize this was my favorite REM song until last year. Now there's no question.

  • God, what a fantastic performance! Damn!

  • 3.46 In front of the stage: Look at the girl with the glasses, she's in total awe ;-)

  • You should have been there live in the 80's when they did this song... The Fables tour was amazing.

  • Peter Buck's intro still gives me the chills. This may be one of their best live performances ever?

  • Listen to the Holler!!!!!!!!!

  • Who said that R.E.M. are past it? Bollocks are they...elder statesmen maybe, but they could show modern bands a thing or two about live performance

  • Turn them on to some "Chronic Town".

  • Eye shadow stipe...full odd...fables is stil a outstanding albumn when released.

  • WTF!! PURE ENERGY! :) R.e.m. 4 ever!!

  • Great song from a great album. Nice live version. Thanks.

  • Wow!!

    :D

  • Either way... this song... this version gives me goosbumps. Holy crap.

If you tire of one side, the other side serves you best.

I will write a book, it will be called... "Life and how to live it."

  • that's funny because my dad is writing a book called "Life and How to Live It" :)

  • Ack... Scott messed up Pete's intro.

    Still a great version.

  • From memory, this about a guy that owned a duplex house... and lived on one side of it. He would live in one side of the duplex for a while.. live his life... then get tired of it, then move over to the other side.

According to Stipe, he would flip-flop back and forth several times... habitating both sides of the house as saw fit.. eventually the fellow passed away, and later was found copies of a book he had written called "Life and how to live it."

    cheers

  • Stipe went on to say that that guy had written those books and had them all published, but he didn't sell one copy--he stocked them all away in a closet! When the guy died, the people who went to clean out the house found this closet filled up with these books, and each book was exactly the same--"Life and How to Live It"! I mean--that's just crazy!

  • Wow.. I never knew that. I always wondered... I mean since I was a teenager what had happened to those books.

I would have liked to have read it.

  • Copies of the actual printed books show up on Ebay from time to time. They tend to go for quite steep amounts...

  • Oh jeez.. I didn't know that. Thanks.

  • LOVE...PEACE..HARMONY

  • What a rockin version!!!!

  • Hostia como mola, esto si que es rock en directo. buenisimo.

  • I love this song. So beautiful! Thanks

  • Awe-inspiring.

  • dude thats rock n roll !

  • Probably one of the best songs they have ever done.

  • When I was searching for a live version of this song, I was NOT expecting something this energetic. pure awesomeness.

  • If u have'nt already, find REMchout's videos. Kickass stuff from from early 80's. Murmer, Carnival...., Fables.

  • alright thanks, ill check it out when i get a chance.

  • This is an awesome performance of a great song, thanks for sharing.

  • oh my God... look those guys on their 40's jumping and screeming!!! awesome... pure punk!

  • there is a lot of info about this song on the net. and it is great stil hope to see this song live some day (i have two chances this year...)

  • This song is about Brivs Mekis, a man who built a wall in his house. He would live on one side for a while, then switch to the other when he got bored. When he died, they found a huge pile of books in his closet that he wrote and had published. The book was titled Life And How To Live It

  • What a gem.

  • fables is so under appreciated

  • I love you guys !!!!!! And I love your guitar, Peter lol

  • What exactly were his carpenter and his pockets up to? I have no idea, and that's one of the many, many reasons that I love REM so much.

  • top 3 favorite songs this great band has ever created.

  • Dear Cameraman,

Mike Mills is in the band, too, you know.

  • Was this song aired on the Spanish television? Christ, what a GREAT performance!

  • oh i love this and am not myself, this is so awesome.

  • these guys are so amazing live, i've tried to take all my friends to the show when they come around since 1988 on the green tour, old enough to drive.

  • I always like that opening riff Pete plays. It has kinda of a weird vibe to it.

  • Like watching them back in the old days. Full of energy.Great

  • I wouldn't call 2003 "the old days"! 2003 is quite recent if you consider that REM's first full length album, Murmur, came out in 1983! They're still full of energy and are a great live act even after all these years. You can't say that about most bands that have been around as long as REM.

  • i didn't mean 2003 was the old days. I meant the performance they gave was like watching them in the old days. Like back in the mid 80's when they were performing this song on a regular basis.

  • Ahh... sorry, misunderstood your post.

Still great live though, and I think I'm going to be really impressed by their new album when it comes out. Can't wait.

  • distorted McGuitar unnessecary. Riff better on tele.

But no one greater than REM!

  • oh man i've watched that now 4 times in a row!! thats sooooo great!! wish to hear that one live finally!!

    thanx chelseafc

  • Best song on Fables by a country mile and one of REM's top ten in my opinion... superb live performance too!

  • agreed.

  • Fantastic! Thank you for sharing!

Do you have the videos: Begin the Begin, She Just Wants To Be and Star 69 from this show?

  • This is one of my all time favourites... Great, great live version.

Great work Chelseacf! Props and keep it coming!
