that's hamo, incorrectly presented as pike eel. it should be called daggertooth pike conger, or just pike conger. it is very different from unagi, which is a freshwater fish. hamo is a sea going creature.
I think that even though Morimoto's dishes were dynamic and innovative, they're just not suitable for the theme of the battle (which is traditional Japanese cuisine with Japanese ingredients).
i like how the Japanese judges here are very polite with their comments and with their eating manners. Whereas, the judges in the Iron Chef America seem to focus more on eating and sometimes give rude criticism instead of constructive ones.

"you might have been hurried but the bones seemed to bother me"..of course he was hurried you old squid faced Ishii..he only had an hour..it would probably bother your old, crusty ANGLERFISH face to stand up and sit back down in an hour..go PAY for a meal before you complain
I have to say, though, that I agree that the Kyoto chef had an advantage, but for the record Morimoto was thinking outside the box. It's a risk he took upon himself. Awesome battle.

lol no Bibby Flay means only good things, as far as Iron Chef is concerned. Throwdown is a joke of a show.

Finally, an actress that isn't a complete dumber-than-dirt airheaded bimbo.

Only 3 dishes? I don't think Morimoto should have wasted time serving those girls drinks.

@jash808 it's not unagi, it's hamo, they are different species.

Holy cow! A sweep against an Iron Chef, I'm stunned.

Great battle. It was a good effort on Morimoto to try out something different and unique but because of the ingredient, Yoshi had the upper hand.
