Philip Baker Hall's character in Midnight Run was named Sydney, and he lived in Vegas. I always wondered if he is supposed to be the same guy, or if it was more of a little nod from PTA rather than a literal continuation. Anyway, it's something to think about.
I've seen Boogie Nights, TWBB and Magnolia, and I just saw this.
It seems like it's unfinished in many ways and it isn't rushing....but it's not taking enough time to say everything. After 1st viewing I can't say I liked it a lot. 5/10 for now....
If this doesn't get better with more viewings, I'll just have to say PTA was still learning at this point
i dont think i can say for sure after 1 view but i thought it was good, just not to the same caliber as his later films. the acting was great. i think pta said in some interviews that he wasn't satisfied with the end result because he wasn't part of the editing process and the studio tinkered with it. i think if he had full control like in magnolia this would've been just as good as the rest of his masterpieces.
Top ten movie that NOBODY has ever seen! I miss Gene Siskel, I remember At the Movies when it was on PBS.

@heavyminded09 Also the 3 million dollar budget kept him a little bit restrain. Still a good film though.

Definately one of PT Anderson's three best movies. Too bad not many people have heard of it. One of the greatest debut films of all time.
