If you just take a min and give me a chance I'll make you a believer. I would love nothing more than to have a loyal following on youtube. If anyone who reads this could press the "THUMBS UP" others will see it. Just a simple button push will make a huge difference.
Just to state the bleeding obvious, if this had had a few more rehersals this would have really have taken off. Pity they ditched the electric version completely cos of this one cock-up.
I was at this show.....Rage Against The Machine opened...GOOD!! This is U2 walmart tour! LOL JUST KIDDING!! It was a great show just working out the BUGS!!! 1st show of the tour!
During the making of Popmart video, they said playing at the center of the arena was really difficult because they heard the sound come out of the speaker at a delay from when they actually played it. Im guessing thats what happened.

@hansen6102 That's a popular lie, actually. He actually lost his voice recording POP (Last Night on Earth was done in a single take because of it), and had to have throat surgery and he just didn't recover well enough in time.

The electric version is so much better - Bono was worried about his voice here because his singing was'nt sounding so great - apparently it was desert weed - hahah!!!
they had so many difficulties because when they recorded the album, they never played together but on stratums... and this was the opening concert too..
WTF , this is fully fucked-up , they destroyed one of their most precious songs , at least they did subsequently another live version acoustically and is a little more acceptable .
It was the first show of the Tour and it was also the first time a Production of that size had ever been toured so it had an awful lot riding on it. Its kinda embarassing for em but they persevered and ended up making the Tour a big Success. As they say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, even though thats easier said than done.
As much as I love the acoustic version from the Mexico DVD this is actually a pretty good version. I gotta think that nowadays they'd be able to pull this off live full band.

its a shame that staring at the sun is only played acoustic because of their inability to play it on the opening night of PopMart. i think it can be a good live song if they figured out how to play it live. maybe on their next tour, who knows
I was there! I remember thinking, "Wait, what? Did they just mess up?" They made a great recovery.

@joeco1027 I think the studio version was heavily mixed so it's almost impossible to play it live that way. But I Think it sounds pretty good live.

The U2 Las Vegas show of Popmart is great - I wish it was on DVD - in fact, all first shows of tours should be on DVD - instead of halfway through.
