I've been here so many times, and climbed the falls countless times and each time is better then the last. I love Dunn's River Falls. Such a beautiful and Serene place. Wonderful marvel of nature.
This is one Jamaica's best natural attractions! You should check this out when you come to Jamaica.
Aside from Dunns river falls, there are YS and Mayfield falls w/c are also beautiful and amazing. Jamaica is blessed with these wonderful natural wonders.

@babyruth71 Nice choice. Anyway it is in a different parish/state called St.Ann, about 3 hours east of St.James parish that Negril is in). If you stay at the Bahia in Montego Bay then you would be closer, either way, just get a tour guide form the hotel, pay him to take you there. I wouldnt recommend driving since our roads are very different from american or european. We dont have many road signs and our roads are very very small. Leave the driving to the skilled-natives,seriously. Have fun

Its about an hour and 30,35 minutes from Mobay but the way we drive haha and we dont necessarily have traffic except in the metropolitan area (Kingston) you will get there earlier. It is northeast of Mobay, on the cost of the Island. Its a beautiful, serene place. You should really check it out especially if you have children but be careful, rocks are slippery. And it might be a little pricey but its best if you get a tour guide from the hotel to take you. Have fun! :)
At 14 yrs old climbed those falls in 1985 with my sister and two other kids that were on vacation with us. no falls climbing guide, just our instinct. the most grueling was the very first rock from the beach. It was a blast, we did it two times. the next day my feet were in tremendous pain from climbing the rocks barefoot. looked like somebody beat the bottom of my feet with bamboo. lmao. some of the most fun I have had in life.

I was curious, does anyone keep track of or remember how long it took them to climb it? I used to work on a cruise ship and when we were in port we used to time ourselves with/against ;) the locals, and my best time was 42 minutes.(barefoot, of course). Now I am by NO means "athletic" as it were. But I do seem to recall that was a pretty cool time.
i climbed it with my mom and nana! it was so much fun, but REALLY scary at some times. They have 2 exits you can get out from along the way, so if you really don't want to climb it anymore, that is good to have. we were gonna escape, but we kept going. It was a lot of fun, I recommend it for tourists.

just back from there, it was terrible - very very crowded and dangerous. 2 kids (not mine) broke legs. very slippery and nothing to hold. kids below 8-9 will get throwen from the strong flow!! make sure its not crowded b4 u go, we went out in the midlle because it was to dangerous.

whats funny is, after the guide is over, the tour guides all go around asking for tips. 20 bucks was probably the minimium they were satisfied with. one lady gave the guid 5 bucks and the guide just looks at her in disgust and says, "bad tip!" hahahaha
Just got back last week if you go take the cool runnings cruse 88 dollars per person from the RIU Ocho Rios it was the most fun if you dont have shoes they will rent you a pear for five dollars the falls looks steep but its no problim to get to the top after that you go back to the catermran for drinking and cruzing this was the best you will enjoy it.

i climbed it barefoot, i almost fall twice. a guy had to put me on his back and took me off when i got to the top. it wasa great experience and would definately do it again but this time with nonskid shoes. the rocks are slippery.

I was just in Jamaica and i climbed the falls with little cousin, i didn't wear the shoes and i went up it pretty fast and easy but it might be harder for someone older( i am only 12), but still my Grandmother did it along with my great aunt so its not impossible

I found the guides loud and obnoxious, yelling at people and forcing the tourists to perform like trained animals for their video that they tried to sell at the end.
It CAN be dangerous, i recently went and slipped and fell!
It was my own fault really, I went off route that the guides used and slipped and whacked my shin, hurt really badly!!
I went to the first aid office (hut) and was told that quite a few people fall, in fact the nurse said that before me a lady dislocated her knee (ouch!!) and had to be taken to hospital.
The non slip shoes arenonesense & just a way to generate income.

yeah the guides are probably for the people that pay for packages because we went there and we just climbed the falls ourselves. Although it's much better that way because you can just take your time
@TbayMomof4girls I was recently there. you dont fall! there are metal rails for you to hold on too. besides they make you lock hands with a partner and the employees that come with you help you up and stuff. it is super fun and when you watch the video you will laugh so hard! it is so much fnu and i think you should go to Jamaica and try it.

I'm sure some have, but we didn't see anyone fall. You wear special non-slip shoes and for a small fee you can join a hand holding line with a guide.
