@ASP1NALL There could be many interpretations. I feel yours may be correct because the performer contradicted himself many times throughout the piece, and even said that "thou shalt think for yourselves" after essentially telling the audience how to think.

Another possibility is that "kill" is meant in a positive way, meaning to produce a really good impression or to do something successfully.

Going along with the line of 'Thou shalt think for yourselves', I don't think you can say that any band(s) that had a massive impact on culture, pop culture, and the general world view(s) of entire generations can be called "just a band". I suppose the argument could be made that it's the actual music that's important, not the band(s), but the music wouldn't exist without the band(s). Like I said, just "thinking for myself".
