Sly Stone is perfection. For everyone who find themselves on their feet, wether they can dance or not, he's a true original. I will alway admire him ... no matter how bad life may get for him. Sly, just hold on, remember you have friends & avid fans.
"I CAN DO IT" You can make it if you try." I CAN DO IT--I CAN DO IT. A timeless, and indispensable mantra. Even when times are toughest, YOU CAN MAKE IT IF YOU TRY----remember, STAND.
This was originally slated to the be the B-side of "Stand!" on Epic single #5-10450 (with a mx. # of ZSP 138640), before it was replaced by "I Want to Take You Higher."
This and "Thank You (Falettinme etc.)" demonstrate why for an all too short time Sly & the Family were one of the greatest American bands of their time. Here they're in absolutely top form, and this track never fails to lift my spirits. It's like a gospel sermon, you can practically feel the floor thumping as people of all colors and creeds get up together and dance (to the music, hehe). I's tragic that we don't have the likes of Sly & Co. around these days.
I wonder if any of the other vets of the 1971-72 WESPAC U.S. 7th Fleet who see this will remember this as a sort of theme song of the whole 'Nam sailor experience, whether on the line or back at Subic/Olongapo on Liberty. "Higher" was Sly's other song we played a lot - heard a lot - it was sort of the tempo of the war. Of the whole WESPAC. Peace, Al the nvp
Black people listen to this song lets go for our around the world take it peace.

From 2:30 on, unbelievably tight. When Freddie's guitar comes back in, I get goosebumps.
