i haven't bought an extra battery but it only takes about an hour
to charge & battery life seems good so far. i did get a 4-gig SD
card (good for around 1/2 hour of video @720p/30fps) for about $15
b/c the Zi8 doesn't come w/a card at all & the internal memory only
holds about 3 seconds of video, lol!
i'd also recommend a small tripod like the Gorillapod.
it's about $20 & is flexible - check it out!

i read some reviews that said the Zi8 is better than
the Flip, & i'm pretty happy w/my decision to get it.
not only is the video quality better, but you can use
up to a 32 gig SD card & the battery is swappable -
Flip has no extra storage & i believe the battery is non-removable...
