Is there a version of this on YouTube with English subtitles? We watched it today in my Comparative Studies class, but as I was in the back of the room, I couldn't read all of the subtitles (too many heads blocking my view). I would very much like to know what I missed.

many thanx . it was the most awesome movie.although i was a 10 years old girl at that time i had seen it at least 6 times. thanx for sharing and gave me the opportunity to watch ( with tears in my eyes) again.

Dear me! I have searched long for that version of Electra in the net; I guess this version comes close to the original performances at the times of Euripides himself in the theatre of Dionysus in Athens itself! Maybe even better as the women roles are played here by women! The music is perfect, the acting decent and the coulisses fitting and the play most superb as all plays by Euripides, shame that so view survived malignant time. A English, French or even German version of it would be nice...

My pleasure! Thanks for your kind comment... Indeed, this is one of the most outstanding Greek movies ever made. I just posted it here in its entirety because Cacoyannis is badly known nowadays in Spain (and, I'm afraid,abroad as well). I wonder when such great films will be shot again!
