Thanks for sharing this great catch! I normally check for trains anyway when the gates are are not flashing or down. ( depending on traffic in back of me too!) but you never know when this could happen anywhere. I also read the comment from the conductor and understand that this gate is working correctly. Regardless, I think all involved here, both train employees or drivers all need to be aware!
Please get rid of copyguard! Its distracting and unecessary. You are the only one doing this! I have yet to see pledgerism in railway clips on Youtube! And dump the stupid advert before your clips!, this is not commercial TV!
@electricrailwaygod@electricrailwaygod, Okay here's the deal, pal. I spend alot of money making these videos (I've gone thru 3 different camcorders) and I am a student. The revenue from these adverts are helping me pay my college tuition and save for a new camcorder. I apologize for the adverts and know they are probably annoying, but they allow me the save money in order to buy a new camcorder so I can continue producing videos. Please also see my other comment.
@electricrailwaygod Also, at the time this video was made, approximately 15 of my videos were put on other YouTube channels, even with the copyright mark on them. I apologize for the watermark, but it is a free country, if you really are bugged by them, feel free to not watch my vids. I appreciate you taking the time to write these comments so thank you much for your feedback. I appreciate you taking the time to write. Thanks again. :)
Even at the speed the consist was running at, the crossing still should have activated sooner than it did, the train stopping like it did shows that, it either had a stop and protect or was going slow enough to notice that something was not right and was able to stop while ensuring public safety.
There was no malfunction the gates did activate correctly. I am a conductor with BNSF out of Vancouver. These gates are wired in with the signal and will activate sooner if a favorable signal is displayed. We are often talked by this signal when red to stage departure out of town. They only activate after we pass the signal when red.
I had that happen to me once, we were on a train at the station, on the wrong side of the track, everybody had to cross the tracks, and get on the train, signals weren't going off/down, we were in the crossing before they went down. Wish I had my camera...
If a Stop and Flag Order is issued for a grade crossing the train must stop prior to reaching the crossing and may proceed if the lights and gates are operating. Other wise the crossing must be flagged .
I agree, that isn't necessarily a malfunction. Depending on what track the train was on, yard leads and industrial tracks tend to have a very short or non-existent approach in order to avoid inconveniencing the public.
The train stopped and waited the required time for the signals to be active before it entered the crossing. Though I am not convinced it anticipated stopping.
It might also have stopped to let an employee on, but I can't see anyone climbing onboard.
I don't think this was a malfunction - I think the crossing was on center circuit. The crew seemed to have a stop and protect order which means they knew this crossing was going to behave like that.
A stop and protect order is when the conductor of the train is required to walk the head end of the train over the crossing, usually due to the report of an activation malfunction (a safety precaution). It is hard to see, but you can see the conductor climb back up on the lead unit at 2:26.
Actually, "stop and protect" means the crossing gets "flagged" which means some railroad employee, usually the conductor, stands in the roadway and signals traffic to ensure it stops before the train enters the crossing.
Well, I can see why school buses have to stop at intersections even if gates are present. I've never seen a crossing gate malfunction by remaining in the "up" position before.
Yep. That's why he had to stop, horn off, and then proceed. He had to protect the crossing, since it did not activate correctly. Thanks for the comment :)

You do a good job defending yourself. I do the watermarks sometimes on my other channel, WAMTrains. It really helps with preventing plagiarism!

I'm not shure how fast the train was going. But it look like the
crossing protection came on in plonty of time.

Was the 2nd unit an unpainted BNSF gevo? Looks to be a ES44DC for someone.

I haven't either. I think maybe the track crossing detection circuit was not functioning correctly possibly. Thanks for the comment :)
