Being a bouncer was a fun job, but I will never do it again. Good money, made a lot of friends, and some enemies, never had to punch anyone, just a lot of grabbing and throwing and verbal threats. However, walking home from the pub at 4am on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, every week for the 7 months I bounced, were scary. Had to stop and turn around a few times, took cabs others. Live literally 1 football field away lol

There's a club in Bristol called Lizard Lounge where students are always getting beaten up by bouncers over small misunderstandings. Of course most people would side with the doormen and assume the kids were mouthing off or whatever.
I know the club you mean in Bristol very well, i know some of the guys who work there too, and you would be surprised, how one sided a story can be. You will not of heard about the 30/40 minute argument before fists start flying where the students, threat to stab, beat and mame the doorstaff, So you've got to ask yourself... where do you draw the line..?

@milkybar100 Nervous is good. it means you want to do a good job and be safe. I have been a bouncer for 16 years. I have a series of security camera footage (Nightclub Diary) from a club where I was head of security. I break things down to what was happening, what went right, what went wrong, how to improve. Also I have made a few friends on youtube who have pretty good instructional vids. I wish stuff like this was available when I started. You should check them out. Read the descriptions !

And don't think you can reason with EVERYBODY. They may just be too drunk and some people just want to fight no matter what and the vast majority of times I have had to fight, I was just trying to pull fighting people apart and they turned on me or another bouncer. It's all about TEAMWORK.

An almost accurate example of being a doorman, add some radios and earpieces, make it so Ray calls for asistance before he charges in and replace the old school choke with a forward and reverse thumb lock and it would be a more accurate film, however its still very good and its correct with the switch on and off complex.
Winglock89, i think its a very accurate vision of what its like to work the doors, bearing in mind its based i think on the old school days of door work, as apposed to the newer ways.. Radios, protocol etc etc.

This was excellent - I know quite a few bouncers and therefore hear the so many sides of the job. So many are trying to get out of that line of work but it puts food on the table. Its still a shame that there are those guys that walk around thinking its a status thing and way to pull gals. Im not suprised this won awards, Geoff as per usual produces high quality stuff.

i've just finished Geoff Thompson's (the guy who wrote this) book 'Watch my Back'. He was a doorman in Coventry, a mate of his got killed like that, puts another spin on it when you know it's a depiction of someone real.
Great book I read it before I started on the doors- He also wrote an excellent positive thinking book called 'the elephant and the twig' Highly, highly recommended for anyone feeling anything less then on top of the world.... This was excellent - I know quite a few bouncers and therefore hear the so many sides of the job. So many are trying to get out of that line of work but it puts food on the table. Its still a shame that there are those guys that walk around thinking its a status thing and way to pull gals. Im not suprised this won awards, Geoff as per usual produces high quality stuff.

i've just finished Geoff Thompson's (the guy who wrote this) book 'Watch my Back'. He was a doorman in Coventry, a mate of his got killed like that, puts another spin on it when you know it's a depiction of someone real.

Great book I read it before I started on the doors- He also wrote an excellent positive thinking book called 'the elephant and the twig' Highly, highly recommended for anyone feeling anything less then on top of the world.... On another note I can't believe someone gave me a thumbs down for the SIA comment lol.

This is the only thing I've ever seen on film/in media that I can relate to when it comes to working on the doors. I hope that there will be a full movie version of this with Ray Winstone.
