My guess is that fwiw, I'm poss. a generation older than most of the good folks that like this band. I'm from the desert s. west, and grew up to and still love the strongest, hi-test-acid-rock / bluesy-rock music that one normally doesn't hear that much on the radio. That being said....while listening to Sirius Radios' "Little Steven's Underground Garage" awhile back, I heard this song and it really, really grabbed me. Why, I don't know. It's floaty, but has some bite to it as well. I dig it.

i took photos at this show. i've seen them at small venues and large and they pretty much lay it all out on the table every time. in dallas, they invited Erykah Badu on stage and did "Tyrone". apparently, it's a song they've often covered. i'm not saying they're the greatest band ever, because I don't believe in that idea. but comparing their discography with a certain band hailing from just south and west of them, who happen to be crapping diamond records, i'd take my morning jacket any day.

Highly Suspicious sounds like a bad outtake from Midnight Vultures, by the way. Also, Off The Record is the Hawaii Five-O theme song, if you hadn't noticed. I could go on for days...but seriously, I don't know anyone who thinks Thom Yorke is bad singer, or that Radiohead writes ripoffs of other songs. At least Radiohead is original.

Good post. It IS opinion, just like I've been saying. I didn't trash the band, or say they are the worst thing ever. I say they are mostly hype because they have gotten tons of press, and they still just have their core fanbase. Which is great, I'm glad they are making a living doing what they love.

But Radiohead is hype, really? I don't know anyone who thinks Radiohead is bad..that's a bad defense.

Good response, I type from work and when I type fast I'm not always completely anal about it. Anyone that actually gets upset because I don't like MMJ and because I actually have a valid reason, well, you are kind of pathetic. It's a band on a major label, they put themselves out THERE, so I'm sure they are fine with people criticizing them. Stop being fanboys. Or girls.

The Kermit thing is gimmicky. My favorite singer is Robert Plant, and I listen to mostly 60's and 70's music, a little bit of The Cure. I'm not some Godsmack metalhead. That's one of the reasons I tried to like MMJ, they seem like they would be down my alley...but I was very disappointed. That's my opinion. You want a great band with good stuff, check out Reckoner by Radiohead, best new tune to come out in years.I have heard Jim James is very cool, that doesn't make him a good singer.

On a side note, every time I have ever talked to an MMJ fan they are so amazingly defensive of this band, very insecure. A lot of people hate Coldplay, I like them. If someone says they suck, it doesn't affect me personally. Maybe it's because MMJ just has that core fanbase and they don't appeal to many people, I don't know. But their fans in general are a little silly.

Intelligent response. Musical taste is completely opinion, this is my opinion. I burned three MMJ CD's off a friend and seriously gave it a go for about two weeks, and concluded that I don't understand why anyone loves this band. At Dawn is easily there best work, and a couple of their acoustic tunes, "Knot Comes Loose", for instance, are pretty good. If I listen to this next to a really good band like Radiohead, or Kings of Leon, it's just really kind of not good. I'm glad you like them, though

MMJ writes decent melodies, the are sloppy players and Jim James sounds terrible, unless you like Kermit the Frog singing your rock songs for you. This band is complete hype, have been since day one. Critics eat it up because it's different and they get a Grammy nod, but their sales are really weak because only a hardcore group of fans can stand them.

They have a couple of decent tunes, the acoustic ones where his Kermitness isn't as noticeable. They sound ridiculous, honestly.
