Is it my imagination, or is her voice slightly flatter here than in the English version? Did she sing it differently on purpose, or was it just the way her voice was that day?

I think that they ended up translating the songs from this album into English a while after the Japanese version was recorded, so maybe her voice was just a bit different when she got around to recording the English version.

Well, I think its natural for the voice to change when vowels are pronounced differently, my voice is notably higher sounding, when I speak french, with it's longer inflections (the inflections in Japanese are similar to those in French)....but, frankly, I dont see much diff in the 2 versions of this song...which is fantastic in either language

I didn't even know there was a Japanese version! Do they do one for all their English-language songs?

Their original albums here in Japan are usually in a mix of Japanese and English... they have some albums that are almost completely in Japanese and other albums are half-and-half. If the song was originally in English then there is no Japanese version, but a lot of their songs were originally in Japanese and then translated into English. There are also a few albums that they never made international versions of, so there are some songs that only have Japanese versions.

This is from the original Japanese-language version of the album "Genki Shock," which came out in 2005. The English version of the album came out in 2006.
