  • The occupy movement is a waste of time

  • Doug Stanhope Slammed these guys lol, hilarious

  • Comment removed

  • Could physically see the vile little woman shrinking in her seat. Typical tory idiot!

  • ian hislop is like my wife.... always wins an argument

  • Hislop is fantastic.

  • And even with the twisted argument she is still right, you can't hate capitalism and claim to be ethical then buy anything made by foxcon like the laptops are or anything that involves lots of child labour like coffe production.

  • @LearnDigitalArt If they were truly hating capitalism in the first place. Too many people get confused with this; they see how capitalism as a system has been exploited and used by the mega-rich (which has always been the case) but now with serious repercussions for the world economy and them personally. That's what's riled them up, not capitalism in itself, which we've lived with for years. She fails to realize this and makes an argument that is not valid for the true protest.

  • @Kaos77Kisame The problem is that even the people involved in the Occupy movement can't agree on what they're protesting against, let alone offer any clear solutions. They make vague vague noises about "greed" but they lack direction, and until they can state some clear aims with conviction they are never going to be taken seriously.

  • @steve5312 Which is kinda why Mench's argument is invalid, we know why they're protesting, some rich idiots played Russian roulette with our money and their greed has thrown the world into an economic disaster. Now, I don't know if they can accomplish anything as they are either, they have no leadership, but it is a show of opinion and if it gets some people who can do something about it to consider what the people are saying, then it's worth it. They don't really hate capitalism.

  • @Kaos77Kisame It seems this point is lost on the protesters aswell, they claim they hate capitalism

  • @yesman2079 Yeah, they're confused. They needed a symbolic target to rally against, and chose capitalism, which has an image of favouring big corporations (perhaps not an unjust image) and so on and forth.

  • Her point was entierly valid and people changed what she said to fit their argument, was saying that you can't buy MAC BOOKS and STARBUCKS and still hate capitalism, she didn't say you can't buy coffe and laptops. The two are completelty different, the first two are a brand, the second two are a product, the first two are the most expensive brands of the last two. These people claim to be poor and hate capitalism, but they have food to eat and healthcare, and they buy macbooks and starbucks.

  • Louise's argument could have been a reasonable one....if she had a brain

  • I think she was just attempting to be funny.

Because shes not usually this openly dumb.

  • This woman is a first class idiot, which is not surprising as she writes "chick-lit" and is a tory.

  • i'd say that bitch got pwned, but thats already in the title :p

  • I am happy to report that the Greece protesters have heard Louise's insightfulness and have burned a Starbucks to the ground.

  • She would be a worthy successor to the most-revolting-Tory-woman role when Thatcher dies (soon, one might hope).

  • This woman is a Class A arsehole. The typical modern politician who, instead of thinking and forming her own arguments, runs with the soundbytes knocked up by the tabloids.

  • Why do I get the impression this woman distilled her arguments from hipster memes...

  • She has a point, it's a shame she didn't turn it around and drive it home though.

You don't argue against Capitalism and then go and line up at the worlds largest coffeehouse corporation for your trim soy mocha latte with sprinkles...as far as the coffee goes, for crying out loud at least support your local fair trade suppliers...you get MUCH better coffee than the "toilet water" at Starbucks and it's "fighting the fight" against Capitalism...

  • this woman is just awful. as far as i can see she bases her career on being absolutely indistinguishable within parliament and slavishly following the party line while outside it acting the part of thatcher 2.0 to get press coverage, banging on about how she's somehow a 'tory feminist'.

  • That was a thing of beauty.

  • I wonder what she looks like in a bikini..

  • @cziffra1994

    Calm down, dear!

  • What is irritating is that the occupy movement isn't actually cited as being against capitalism, right? It's misrepresented by the media. After what has happened i'm sure the vast majority of people with any moral conscience and who isn't completely uneducated on the issues would agree that changes need to take place. There are ridiculous amounts of waste, greed and corruption at the top of the hierarchy, personified in 2008 - so why wouldn't we want to change this? This is what Occupy is about.

  • You know that if the protesters did everything that Mensch demands here, she and the rest of the Tories would turn around saying, "why should we listen to a bunch of unwashed hippies?"

  • @Graysonson exactly, she's actually trying to lampoon them for being NORMAL PEOPLE where otherwise the typical tactic would be to make sarky comments about people with dreadlocks.

  • That woman is a ghastly cunt.

  • I think Ian Hislop said it all. Tories are greedy pigs. They only care about the rich and let the devil take the hindmost.

  • The protester at Saint Pauls were protesting against corporate greed and corruption not necessarily capitalism per say. I don't think anyone realistically believes that a free market economy should be scrapped, but rather a flawed system be policed properly and the bad people to be brought to task. By accepting the status quo you are being complicit in a imoral situation.

  • HOW DARE YOU HAVE OPINIONS AND BUY FROM A CAPITALIST CORPORATION. So if we steal from them instead will she be pleased?

  • Her point was valid, just not very funny. These protesters complain about a system they benefit from--theyve just been steered there by a bunch of manipulative con-men who give them fancy slogans & make them think they are a bunch of enlightened revolutionaries when they're just fecklessly promoting the 21st century version of feudalism.

  • @beepandbop what would be feudal about a demand for reform and a higher tax rate? how is this related to feudalism at all?

  • @moralreef because higher tax rates don't help anybody. I am for tax rates cut across the board. That is what I strongly dislike about British politics. You have elitists like this woman who join the Tories and don't understand the philosophy of a free market and come across as complete fools. Their own fault I suppose.

But redistribution of wealth, which is what higher tax rates rhetorically aim to do, merely drive wealthier citizens out and create an environment of stagnation.

  • @beepandbop i have no problems with those arguments (apart from when people mention 'austrian school', then i just roll my eyes), but it still has nothing to do with feudalism, really.

  • @beepandbop fyi i do have problems with those arguments really, i just can't be arsed to get into yet another youtube discussion about them. i'm sure you understand, haha.

  • Comment removed

  • @beepandbop are you alright? stopped youtube argument mode yet?

  • The BBC keep calling the protest 'anti-capitalism'. That's a gross simplification. It's against the imaginary wealth being thrown around the stock exchange, where one mistake can bankrupt a whole nation overnight.

  • @dublinblue4 You're overlooking Michelle Bachman and Sarah Palin in the USA.

  • Happy to see everybody discards her argument. It's silly. But don't forget that not only the right thinks like this. Some forms of vegetarianism and some left ideologies like the whole consume-less idea are based on it.

"You can't fight a system you merit from". "Change has to happen inside you first". But you can't freaking escape this system. It's forced upon us. What? Into the wild for everyone?

It's an argument that weakens the vigor of a progressive movement, it's a reactionary idea.

  • On the subject of money, she needn't worry about her political career running out of steam and her novels not selling, her husband is the manager of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metalica and Snow Patrol. 20% of their earnings he's on. Ker-ching...

  • That´s some dangerous thinking there Louise Mensch. The silence of the room told the story of fear. Thank God some PC people told you straight.

  • I hope the people of Corby see this and question why in holy hell they allowed her to inherit the safe seat..

  • It wasnt a protest against capitalism you fucking moron.

  • What a moron!

  • I hate that cheap argument that Louise resorted to.

If you dare suggest there's something wrong with the current political system (which lets face it is hardly a radical line any more) you're told that unless you can immediately design a perfect political system, while living in a hut, then you've no right to say anything - you just have to shut up and put up with it.

And if you do start suggesting (untested) changes you get interrupted by someone shouting:"It won't work", or worse: "Commie!"

  • @TheCasualObservers superb comment

  • I'm an Occupier, and I think coffee taste like shit.

  • Comment removed

  • This Mensch woman is one of the most disgusting self-publicists ever to have (dis)graced the Vile Party... just awful little spiteful woman.

  • @WorldFlaneur Yep seems the Tories want more young women to see this as a role model along with Samantha Cameron .....aspire to be a vile Tory publicist or the darling wife of a successful Tory man >.>

  • Tedious media liberal farts make stupid "ironic" jokes in a desperate defense of their shitty little solipsistic worldview "YAWN"

  • @arkolt2000

wanker comments on youtube in attempt to display wordly cynicism ...yawn

  • @arkolt2000

"media liberal" Hahahahahahaha! Yeah fuck off. If you actually had a fucking braincell or two, you'd realise how stupid Louse's argument (if you can even call it that) is. Hislop summed it up perfectly. Then again, these sort of things fly over your tiny head don't they?

  • Mensche demonstrates both the contempt towards the Public that Politicians hold so dearly as well as the 'bridge' between them.

She really believes that WE believe those are her own independant opinions and those others in the corridors of Power DIDN'T tell her to use both hostile and passive-aggressive diatribes every time Occupy was brought up? She'll pay for this decision come next 'Election', I'm confident in that. I'll certainly try to lose her a few votes.

  • Louise Mensche = STUPID TORY CUNT

  • Louise Mensch can't be much of an MP if she characterised the occupy movements as anti-capitalist. Irritating wench.

  • Starbucks is bringing jobs to Britain. The problem is the banks, not franchise coffee bars. It is hypocritical for the more hardline communists and marxists to use commercialism when it suits their needs however.

  • Communism failed due to the old animal farm dilemma of human greed and it's a shame democracy has gone the same way, despite its successful ideology.

    Ian Hislop definately vote labour

  • @luckyd0m

    Hislop detests Labour.

Also, 'Communism' was never practiced - let alone allowed to fail, the USSR followed the same State Capitalist Economy (Radically different from so-called 'Capitalism') that virtually every Country in the last few Centuries has practiced, bar East Timor, pre Civil-War Spain and others - this is why we don't help these Countries when they need it, we let genocide happen in the former (And armed the killers, both US and UK) and let Fascist take over the latter.

  • Thing about Starbucks and Apple is that they didn't cause the recession. Ok they have some unethical business practice (Starbucks much less so atm) but at least they made their money by making things and doing things and selling things. Not juggling money and destroying the world economy.

  • Conservative. Need i say more?

  • lol that woman is such a douche, equating coffee to EVERYTHING. And fancy tents??? LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

  • She is such a cunt.

  • She's right. The protesters can't be against capitalism because they haven't seen it. Governments bailing out banks and therefore owning them isn't capitalism!

  • @sultanchamp Quite - but how does that make her right? How are the protesters anti capitalist if they are attacking crony capitalism that, by the bailouts, has just strengthened the 'moral hazard' of combined banking? What constitutes capitalism, unfortunately for Louise Mensch, isn't the economic outlook of the tory party at any given time.

  • @AsterMonophthalmus Why are they attacking crony capitalism (corporatism) at the London stock exchange? the companies aren't to blame, government is. Governments shouldn't have the power to decide who fails or doesn't. They shouldn't have the power to print money out of thin air thereby debasing the currency and causing inflation. They shouldn't have the power to decide how much bankers should get in bonuses. They should allow the free market to work. Protest at Westminster, not the LSE!

  • She is the definition of unattractive to me.

  • I would love to bum her.

  • @TheWilliam306 An excellent point, well argued.

  • she is so sexy.

  • She's right. Starbucks destroy small businesses and they are pure capitalism, and that is what these people are protesting against YET they are giving them businesses.

  • Ian Hislop is amazing :D

  • i'm not a rich guy, but i love capitalism. i know this sounds cruel, but i'd rather some people were rich and some people were poor than everyone was poor

  • stupid bitch, she can fuck right off. Typical conservative cow

  • who elected this silly cunt? Another rich bastard who knows nothing of the rest of the country.

  • Louise bag shaw is a trumpet, enough said.

  • That woman is just a moron.

  • Gosh, I can't stand this woman!!

It is almost like Peter Hitchens got a sex change and underwent a lobotomy.

  • She is as thick as fuck

  • @gray499kcw I think the thick ones are the ones who don't realise what a powerful and global company starbucks is and what damaging effects it has on small local businesses.

I think the thick people are people like you, who assume because they are working class they are by all means obliged to vote labour and oppose anyone right-wing, regardless of how good of a point they make.

  • @ForeverComplaining Calm Down dear!

  • Smug Tory cow.

  • Comment removed

  • I dont think starbucks had any part in bringing down the world economy. Hurray for missing the point lady.

  • Who the flying fuck voted this bitch in?

  • what a daft bourgeoisie cow

  • "The longest queue EVER for Starbucks" ?

Do you have statistical evidence to back that claim Mrs Mensch?

    No? Then fuck off.

  • Guess which one is in Parliament: the idiot!

  • Lets just say it, stupid fucking c#nt. She stupid shit is IN PARLIAMENT!

  • Momments here are mostly ignorant of the incredibly complex supply chain, devised by and operated by "capitalists" needed to bring a single cup of coffee into the middle of London for a few quid. I don't have a clue what most of the empty drivel amounts to that the "thinkers" at St Paul's square spout (see Liddle in The Spectator for a great piss take) Hislop gets msugger by the day and also doesn't actually engage with the point (unless the point was to be funny)

  • what a twat louise mensch is!

  • I thought Ian Hislop was a Tory.

  • @gratiaDei777 I remember him being a big fan of Vince Cable (& likely therefore voted Lib Dem). At first he was also very supportive of the coalition "I like the idea of this coalition neutralising the loonies on both sides", but I think that support has faded recently. Generally though he appears to be unaligned and seems to regard the major two parties as sleazy and corrupt. I suppose he has to emphasise his neutrality to remain effective both as a satirist and as a panellist on the show.

  • @gratiaDei777 He's been a Lib-Dem supporter for years, he's way too liberal to be a Tory.

  • She was clearly straw-manned. She was not saying you're a hypocrite if you drink coffee per se, she was saying that you're a hypocrite if you complain about capitalism and then go and willingly hand some profit to a premium, high street monopoliser like Starbucks, a business which seemingly aims to take over the world (of coffee, at least). Clearly then, they must enjoy having the choice of more expensive brands, so shouldn't be complaining about capitalism.

  • @StraitKnopfler this is a humorous current affairs show - Mensch was outdone by her lack of sense of humor not her ideological position. Anyway not all these protestors are against capitalism per se - there are various types of capaitalism not just the liberal regulated capitalism we enjoy in the UK. It is the unregulated variety which caused the catastrophic global meltdown which is pissing these people off.

  • @vohshkab Well yes, I agree that she came across as patronising, smug, unlikeable and rather unfunny. Even if they're not all against capitalism as such I'd say the majority are likely against the mass accumulation of wealth. It seems funny to me to spend a day protesting against this only to then march over to Starbucks and hand Howard Schultz some more profit. They should at least have looked for some local cafes, it's still capitalism but it would be reinvesting in the local economy at least.

  • Comment removed

  • I think the keyword is Starbucks, not coffee.

  • 'Mensch attempts an effective, if crude, discrediting trick– to attribute to people beliefs and values they don’t actually have, then chide them for failing to live up to them. Her perpetuation of the stereotype of capitalism as a “thing” one can opt in or out of fell flat on its face...' from deterritorialsupportgroup

  • @TheXiaoSuyang Are you in touch with the DSG? if so PM me.

  • What a twat.

  • The only problem with those complaining about the idea that it's anti-capitalist, is that for there to be equality, for there to be a better non-corrupt society, capitalism must be abolished! There is no lets make tweaks here and tweaks there and hopefully it'll work, trading labour for money for food IS SLAVERY!!!!!!!! HOW LONG IS IT GOING TO TAKE FOR PEOPLE TO SEE THE BLOODY OBVIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I agree with Mensch here, and she's fit.

  • @MartyFunkhouser00 You agree with Menschy wenschy?............ what you been smoking lately?

  • tory stench got murked like the bitch and not to forget witch that she is.

  • I'm trying to picture all those investment bankers picking coffee beans on the hills of Colombia while lazy Third World peasants line up at Starbucks.

  • Capitalism doesn't provide shit , WORKING people bring's you all the shit "capitalism" made .

  • @phonecpus Via what economic system? pfft

  • Fuck she's a twat.

  • who said they were against capitalism? Strawman is not an argument. What's wrong with protesting corporate greed which got us in this mess in the first place

  • I suggest we kill and eat these people.

  • Comment removed

  • wow, because she's a woman with a different opinion than you she's a "whore", "dumb bitch", etc. you guys are really helping to move society forward!

  • Comment removed

  • How can you be so ignorant... Claiming there is no coffee outside capitalism.

  • In AmeriKa our capitalism is gone, at least our American capitalism. Our factories have been shipped to communist China along with our jobs and third world murdering midgets from mexico have been "shipped" in to drive down our wages. NOTHING is made in America anymore. The communist jew bankers have been bleeding us dry......along with Europe. So what are these FOOLS going on about? I wish we did have capitalism.

  • Useless morons...

  • The BBC has the 1% cock in their ass

  • Haha she's such a dumb bitch... fucking backwards retarded tory.

  • A satanic illuminati POV from this woman.

  • This is how they keep us blind, showing some clowns on tv, they have never been where we are right now, so they just make fun of people and find that hilarious, sad people that never accomplish anything without getting pay. At the end, when the time comes, they will suffer and beg to be help. Sad very sad, I feel pity of all of them.

  • Thanks for posting this! What is the name of the program? I'd like to watch (aka download) it regularly.

  • @carriellbee Its called Have I Got News For You. On BBC1 on Friday evenings.

  • @Misty33Blue Thank you.

  • @carriellbee It's called "Have I got news for you" :) It's a good programme, But luckily she's not on it very often :)

  • @airsoftlover23 Thanks. I've seen clips from it before. I'll check it out.

  • F@#N tops thats great

  • You've gotta love the Brits :)

  • i would stick in her tight conservative arse... but i'd have to tell her to fuck off after the pleasure.

  • what a stupid bunch of pricks.....

  • You don't get on the BBC by critisising bankers for too long, the regular panelists are smart enough to see how far they can push it. Push it too far and they lose their cushy 6 digit salaries and life becomes a lot harder. The movement is anti capitalistic , thats the BBC line and their not going to change that stance.

The journalistic types all act as gatekeepers.

  • The once who laughed will take the Nazi dick up their assess soon

  • that illuminati whore got owned

  • @rolovolo This is a peaceful movement of ALL the people. Calling women whores does not support or advance the work we are doing. Try contributing to the discussion instead of misogynist name-calling.

  • @rolovolo LOL illuminati ahahahahah

  • "Pardon me. Would you like some shills with your coffee?"

  • assholes

  • These are the first ones to cry once the SHTF...so let them have their laughs

  • CAPITILISM - WHAT CAPITILISM

  • @PHONEYPOLITICS the shit we got now

  • Why are they against capitalism??! That's not the message?!!!

  • i hope these fucktards enjoy the New World Order

  • this makes me sick

  • True capitalism would NOT HAVE bailed out the banks

  • These fucking clowns know it isn't about ending capitalism. We don't have capitalism you dicks. It's about Fascist governments skewing the markets and rigging the game so that only the large corporations dominate the market. That isn't capitalism, it isn't even close. Oh yeah, the trillions stolen by the FED and other large multi national banks from the taxpayers of the world might be a sore point for the protesters too. But I guess that it's easier to harp on about fucking latte's.

  • @w0y1z92753 Exactly, I don't know if they are deliberately branding the movement as anti-capitalist or they jsut can't be arsed to ask the people why they're there. As you say most of the protesters aren't there to end capitalist, they want to actually have influence of there decisions of their government.

  • @PlanetEarthAwakens01

They are deliberately branding the movement as anti-capitalist! Thats their best weapon, We had 60 year propaganda about how evil all non-capitalists. So all the retarded audience will think they are bad people.

I personally think each people should be able to decide in what kind of society/government, he wants to live in.

And we shall have competition of government systems. (wouldn't be that truly capitalist?)

Carl Sagan said similar to this more than 20 years ago!

  • @PlanetEarthAwakens01 No, this bitch knows exactly what she's saying. I'm sure of it. However, I don't think she's even stating her 'own' opinion. All these silly 'latte' jokes are written by someone else and given to them on palm cards in the dressing room before the show. It happens on all of these shows. Someone sent me a video where Jesse Ventura was on the View and they tried to discredit him. A 'behind the scenes' show, showed Walters being fed a 'choice' of questions. It's all controlled.

  • @PlanetEarthAwakens01 to stereotype us so that the public do not pay much attention to something that is raising important questions like why do we let a fraudulent banking system operate and steal from people ? why did the government willingly hand over money public money to private banks when that will never help the public in fact it will cause harm by adding to inflation? here is a thought u meet a stranger u don't trust em right yet everyday we put our trust in the gov to look after us ??

  • @w0y1z92753 Thank you for saying that!! GeeeeZ purposely confusing the issue.

  • @w0y1z92753 to be fair there was a big giant banner outside st pauls saying "capitalism is ___". It's both the protesters fault for not getting and communicating comprehensive and correct purpose across, but also, to some degree, yes, Have I Got News For You did choose to harp on about this banner in particular.

  • @w0y1z92753 capitalism still needs to end as it claims thousands of lifes a week. Whats more important ourselves or our new god money?

  • @SuperEarther No, corporatism kills thousands each week. Right now we have Fascism, which is essentially socialism. That is what is killing the thousands each week. There are no checks and balances when Fascism or socialism dominate. We haven't had real capitalism for decades, possibly hundreds of years. If you don't have true capitalism then your dominated by a single, powerful force. That's not good for anyone. Stalin's Russia didn't have capitalism and I'm pretty sure millions were bent over.

  • @w0y1z92753 so coca cola when it drains third world countries and lands of water that people need to survive and thus stopping their survival isnt capitalism?
