These characters themselves a currently set up in abondoned building in Seattle WA. The building itself faces the street with windows, so everyone can see these machines staring back at them from a very large warehouse-like room with poor lighting...
@TaylorTaller I grew up in the 80's a great fun time, and I remember going to show biz... chunky cheese is lame and boring.. show biz was fun and exciting... tons of great arcade games that teens actually enjoyed, I cant for the life of me figure why they stuck with chucky cheese??
There is still a Showbiz Pizza place around? I still remember back in the '80s competition with Chucky E. Cheese's was fierce and seemed like they were losing the competition. Haven't seen one for years thinking they went out of business.
Oddly enough, it was ShowBiz Pizza that bought out Chuck E Cheese's, as CEC began to fall behind into bankruptcy. At the time, they kept both restaurant names open in different parts of the country, but adapting the same tune and tagline, which fit perfectly with both. "ShowBiz Pizza - Where a Kid can be a Kid". For some reason I guess they thought that Chuck E Cheese's had a better charm to it, and began converting most, if not all their locations to that instead.
Wow! This brings back memories. I used to go to Showbiz Pizza quite often as a kid including having at least one of my birthday parties there. Seeing this really feels nostalgic. I remember it was eventually either replaced by or changed into Chuck E Cheese's.
I can still taste the cheap pizza sauce. I had pictures of the entire Rock-A-Fire Explosion band in my baby book. (I was born in 1981.). The location I went to was changed into a Chuck E. Cheese's (as were most Showbiz Pizzas) in the early/mid '90s; it's still around.
Man, where's my Showbiz Pizza and Beer Time Place? O.K, I don't drink, but I'd stay for the games as long as it would have billiards, skiiball, House of the Dead 4, and air hockey.
Forget today's corny haunted houses; THIS is what nightmares and demonic dreams are made of LMAO no wonder they softened the setting with CEC's new band!
I was a Showbiz tech back in 1982-3. We were FORBIDDEN to let anyone in the public see behind the scenes., especially allowing a child or adult member of the audience see any of the characters with their skin off when we were doing repairs. It would destroy the illusion and scare the hell out of the kids. Also, the Walk Around BillyBob could not be out when he was on stage.
They modeled the business operations after Disney and were very strict on those points. Pizza was secondary to the show.
@haitipi Yeah, I remember that. I would have totally freaked out if I saw that stuff going on. Actually, I would probably still freak out. Robots are very scary beings.
OMG.. I so remember them!! I was laughing with a good friend just the other day about these good ole times!! Wow.. Showbiz Pizza was the ish.. till Chich E came and booted the band!! lol
lol all the singing billybobs at 7 40 kind of crazy, looks corn ball now that we are older but we ate it up as kids, and the spaceship ride i loved that one as well as all the arcade games but the best was the driving games that they had at the fort wayne indiana showbiz that latter became a chucky cheeze, though on the same street about three miles down the road they did have a chucky cheezes for a few years , but I only went there about twice, and then there was tex ritter at southtown mall.
LOL!!! Yeah man I had my bday there when I was five or so and remember looking behing the curtain anytime I went, almost like a dare to myself or somethin, and It was absolutely terrifying!!! yet still fun!! I remeber how dead and creepy those huge robots looked while in the dark behing the curtains!! Wonderful memories tho...
this is about the only video that my computer wants to stall at the beginning. Every time! It just keeps doing that upload circle thingy. If I adjust the time bar, it will play, but with no audio. I don't get it. I'm wondering if this hangs up for other viewers as well?
You know what would be great? If they could open one up and you could have an adult Showbiz party with beer and all the crazy robots. Just a thought!!!
Isn't it crazy how something that maybe revolved around your world as a child and just be pushed aside? CEC has nothing on Showbiz. I remember the time I went with my cousin and I got left behind in the balls. I felt pretty scared but I bet you now that if Showbiz was around I would love to get left behind now and that is at the age of 29.
OMG!!! I remember being a kid and going to Showbiz Pizza like every other weekend. When I visited their website and saw there pics I was totally freaked out. But CEC will never take away those wonderful childhood memories!
lucky you! I grew up in a small town so I got to go one year for my birthday, it was like a big event driving to Columbus (Ohio)... I've been to chuck e cheese as an adult with kids and it just isnt the same. and the pizza is bad
I never even knew of this place as a child, though I distinctly recall CEC and all their animatronics. I wish I had been around for this place though, despite the bear and mouse(?) cheerleader creeping me out like you wouldn't believe, that Gorilla is AWESOME. I just had to look further into him on your site, and I was amazed at all the photos of behead the scenes stuff. Alot of hard work and love went into these characters, if only we could still apply that kind of care to stuff these days.
I remember going both to ShowBiz and Chuck E Cheeses when I was a child. I'm 32 now. I always liked ShowBiz better, and I was disappointed when they disappeared. Granted by then I was a little older, but it was like a piece of childhood had been ripped away and trampled underfoot.
I miss showbiz pizza place : ( I'm 29 now and remember it sweetly and chuck e cheese just isn't Shobiz Pizza Place! Maybe they'll bring it back! kinda like 80's fashion came back!!
O my gawd... when I was little, I thought they were people in costumes... they were robots??? I... I don't know how I feel about that... :-) I STILL have the birthday 45 I got for my either third or fourth birthday there with what is it??? "we're having a party" or something on it. wow...
Those things did scare me a bit as a kid - but I was a bit younger and only saw the Chuck E Cheese version. Also, I remember "the cheese factory" room being pretty scary to me as a little kid, but also really exciting and I missed it when they took it away.
It so cool to see this stuff now. I'm 37 years old now and I remember being quite a fan of the Rock A Fire Explosion as a kid. I was just fascinated with how they worked. I always wondered what all was involved in making them work and function.
Thanks for posting and oh yeah, I did look behind the curtain once when they were all "off" - and it scared the crap out of me!!! LOL
I worked on those machines and it was even scarier when the fur was off. It was like a demented Terminator with pizza and tokens. Indy Showbiz, and even Chuck E. Cheese later on, was great in the early years.
@mikein1971 Wow Mike, you totally brought back a memory; I'm 28 and forgot about looking behind the curtain - that scared me like crazy too!! LMBO :) Memories
