  • Thumbs up if you just absolutely love those echoes!

  • Thumps if you love just those echoes!

  • Man I miss this so bad sometimes. Being in troubadors was the best experience ever.

  • OH MAN. and this is a high school? the fuhhh? too good too good.

  • I had to learn this for IMEA last year. I love this song and this is absolutely amazing!!!

  • I'm officially in love with the voices of whomever the sopranos are. They just float on that upper range oh so perfectly.

  • this year of troubadours is the reason i wanted to be in that choir. Im so honored to have been one. troubadours is an experience you'll never forget.

chills you guys. that was beautiful.

  • Absolutley Heavenly. Thank you

  • Extremely elegant sound for highschool group & the superb room just makes it blossom. I only wish they'd taken a slower tempo and wallow in the lushness of it!!!

Our US choir at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church & School in Meyerland, (Houston) is singing this as a part of the US & Faculty Choir Christmas program this year, directed by Nancy Crownover, a very sensitive director. Charles Jordan, Organist-Choirmaster, Ascension Episcopal Church, Houston & Music Faculty, St. Thos' Episcopal School.

  • I'd like to think this is what Heaven will sound like as I close my eyes here and open them there.

  • This is my favorite that I've heard on youtube so far although I agree it is fast. There's certain chords that just seem to ring and resonate more than all the others like at about 2:30 to 2:32 ....it's transporting

  • This sounds beyond spectacular. 99% of choir videos on youtube are awful beyond belief...but you guys are GREAT.

We performed this when we toured England last year, and it was amazing!!

  • hey search for other fountain valley high school choir videos- theyre really good

    :P

  • i still get goosebumps with this song..

  • i was in a choir called the ccdhs chorale and when i was a freshman we sang at carnagie hall and we sang this song and i remember there wasnt a dry eye in the entire place and i recently got it tattooed on my back this will forever be one of my favorite songs

  • It just blows me away that these are high schoolers performing this. Just goes to prove that some of the best raw talent and performance is in the youth. Never underestimate what the right influences and instructors can do in bringing out their talent.

  • all of our songs were fast when we performed this, thats just how our director interpretted the piece when we were in salzburg

  • i like it when the bells become audible in the distance towards the end. actually really enhances the emotion for me.

  • This is by far my favorite recording of this song. It makes me super emotional. Great dynamics and tone quality! I love this song so much and wish I could perform it.

  • My concert choir is doing this song as well. i love it. We aren't singing it so fast though. We are taking it slow.

  • This choir reminds me of the high school choir I'm in right now. We're doing this peice as well and I absolutley love it.

  • Is this really a high school choir? They're amazing!!! Our concert choir is singing this right now : )

  • I just learned that Lauridsen is one of Eric Whitacre's idol's, and he plans to dissect all of Lauridsen's music to figure out what exactly makes it sound so amazing.

I just love his signature chord: D major, 1st inversion with an add9 in the first tenor/second alto voice.

  • My concert choir is working on this piece right now and I was worried it wouldn't turn out right. You have renwed my faith!!! Wow this blew me away. I wish we had a space like a cathedral to sing in; that has all the ipact on the sound quality. I agree with yotkhunt8 and ExVash entirely, excception being I am a soprano one. I hope we do the song as much justice as your choir did; this was outstanding!

  • my high school went to Salzburg and we did pieces like this and it's always amazing to listen because it always sounds so beautiful

  • mine too. it sounds amazing in those catherdrals. we went to salzburg and vienna, munic germany.

  • i meant salzburg, vienna, and munic. lol

  • hahaha i know i was there =]

  • haha, ya thats sooo weird. thats happened to me b4 2 tho with choir people.

  • Wow. This song is a notorious 'make-or-break" for sopranos, and your sopranos are spot on. Congratulations.

The blend, the diction, all of it sounds so pure. I'd kill to have had such a talented group of singers to perform with in high school.

  • You can only honestly judge another ensemble's interpretation unless you've learned and performed the piece yourself. my chamber choir did this one my junior year of high school, i was a bass 2, and it was one of my favorite pieces ever. you guys did an amazing job. every time we performed it, i would always get shivers down my spine because of how great the chords were. you're so lucky you had the blessing of performing it somewhere with amazing acoustics; it makes an epic piece legendary.

  • This piece is very difficult and you did an awesome job on it in an incredible place.

  • i alsohave it tattooed on my back

  • Oh my gosh, this is gorgeous. The piece alone is fabulous, but in this space, it really is something else.

  • Wow, those are incredible acoustics! I don't think I've ever performed anywhere that good! You should feel fortunate for having been in such an incredible high school choir and for having the opportunity to perform where you did.

  • ccdhs sang this song on tour this year and we rocked it but i do agree it a lil fast we took it slowly and you really could feel the music threw you it was amazing we sang at st. patricks cathedral

  • its too fast

  • Very nice! My high school choir (NHS) just did this one to...it's on here somewhere. I've been listening to it from different choirs, and these one is diffenetly the best...(after my own of course) jk!!! Great Job.

  • gorgeous

  • Wow. For a high school choir this is definetly a very well executed version of o nata lux. I sang the fourth and fifth movements of lux aeterna in the 2007 PMEA District 11 choir under the direction of Westminster's Choir College's own Dr. Joe Miller which sounded incredible. The amount of skill you kids have is really remarkable and both you and your director should be praised for that.

  • ..the echo makes it so soft and like from other world :)

  • my fart makes an echo, it is so soft and like from another world...

  • Yeah! Troubadors rock, i'm only in Trouvers, but i'm gonna try out soon!

  • please don't

  • Why not? I'm only trying for Le Chaunteurs and Concert Choir, for some reason i don't want to be a Troubador

  • i'm just kidding :)

  • Oh, okay! Lol!

  • wow this is awesome my highschool chamber chior just performed this at festival and got a perfect score. going to states!

  • this is the most amazing video i've seen in a long time :D

    thank you sooooo much

    for posting it

    i love it.

  • We are learning this piece in our college choir. It's beautiful. Your choir is wonderful!

  • This piece IS fantastic!!!! My high school is attempting this piece....key word attempting...(sigh)...it sure is beautiful though...I just wish a little more people in my choir would have the maturity (sp?) of a college choir to carry out this amazing music...can't wait till I can sing in college...

  • Please remember, this piece was written, not for a high school choir, not even a college choir, but the Los Angeles Master Chorale. It is a difficult piece to sing mentioning that it is hard to keep it in tune. I have performed this piece in a chorale, as well as the rest of the Lux Aeterna. This piece predated the rest of the Lux Aeterna by about a year and is the centerpiece for Lauridsen's masterpiece.

Keep singing. This is a popular piece and who knows, you might sing it in college.

  • Stellar. Sonorous, great uniformity of tone/vowels, beautifully interpreted. You kids should be very proud of what you did here. And great diction. What a fantastic director you have.

  • Mcfarland? like from brevard county FL mcfarland?

  • Very well done!

I'm in the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Chamber Singers, and we sang this (along with a whole bunch of other stuff) in Vienna and Salzburg last March!

    Isn't it beautiful?

  • woooow! we're working on this at my high school too for our holiday concert. i get the shivers everytime i listen/ sing it! :)

  • beautiful.. go altos!

  • Wow. . . this is gorgeous! I love this song! My high school choir is working on this now for our 10 day concert tour of Italy! I guess we're doing OK, but this preformance is better than the recording I heard of it previously!

    Keep up the amazing work!

  • WOW. WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW. even though it's fast i dont care.

  • very beautiful!

  • Their pitch is right on...a little too fast for these acoustics, I think. Which are amazing....

  • wow...awesome job! ;]

  • fountain valley is amazing. better than when the all-southern choir in CA did it the previous year!

  • don't be jealous bronxchild. a good musicians admits to better talent.

  • we performed at carnegie hall and did lux aeterna so .. your... dumb... and we premiered a piece written for our choir called Arise, Shine by Dan

    Forrest .....

  • that is because shawnee mission east choraliers are better... than this school.. and other schools ... so... your dumb

  • I was in a high school choir 20 years ago, so I feel no need to post comments to make myself feel better now. No apologists here. Acoustics... crunchy snack bags... whatever! This choir of 16, 17 & 18-year-olds does justice to this tune. I own Morten Lauridsen's "Lux AEterna" as rendered by Paul Salamunovich and The LAMC and I challenge anyone to tell me why this recording is not on par with that one. Anyone?

  • amazing acoustics...probably why you sound so amazing.

  • my high school choir sang mozarts Regina Coeli this year and we sounded professional. last year we sang vivaldi's Gloria

  • like omg. haha.

    where was this preformed?

  • OMG!! O NATA LUX.. THiS WAS MY FAVORiTE SONG THiS YEAR.. YEA.. FV!!

  • My middle school choir is doing this song, we have a different approach and it rox.

  • My high school choir did this piece also. It's such a beautiful song!

  • yeahhhhh, that's RIGHT.

    FVHS is this shittttt.

    (:

    represent CC this year...

  • my undergrad choir did the entire work with maestro paul solomunavich, for whos choir the piece was commissioned, what a composer! good job

  • No way, you know we're better ;)

  • If u think thats good...i was part of this choir 2 years earlier and were better than they are so..

  • that's a high school choir...wow

  • My middle school does High School/College pieces (not to mention my High School also does the same) We did this song this year and it was really nice. We are also doing anotehr hard piece called Make Our Garden Grow from the play Candide.

  • we're singing "O Nata Lux" in my chorus at school, i love the song so much.

    -amara
