@davidbeast123, ah sorry. I thought you were sarcastically saying that the royal family dosent help the British economy. But even so, my comments out there for anti-royals now anyway :). Sorry for the missinderstanding matey.
"we're all celebrating the fact that we have a monarchy rather than some banged out old politician"
Yeah, to hell with those dastardly elected officials chosen by the public. I thought he was all about being against undemocratic money-wasting institutions but apparently not.
@UKKieran The monarchy system we have today is the best ever coz we've discarded the undemocratic aspects of monarchy i.e the absolute rule of the monarch, and we have kept the great aspects of the monarchy i.e the history, the culture, the huge income from tourists who come to see the monarchy, the unifying effect that it has on Britain. Also the monarchy is a great advert for Britain as seen with the global popularity and interest in the royal weddings. Monarchy Rules! excuse the pun ; )
@NumberDne Nobody goes to England to see the fucking monarchy. And what is the "culture" of the monarchy? These are empty words. The queen is a useless, old hag.
@gatorhighlights4 " Nobody goes to England to see the fucking monarchy "
I guess youve been on mars for the past 2-3 weeks. The royal wedding has been one of the biggest stories throughout the world for the past 3 months, the most interest has been from the USA, FACT! it looks like you dont know this either, but the royals bring in far more tourism and interest into Britain than they cost the tax payer. So yours are the empty words. I have facts, you have pointS of view.
Thats not the point. That is a very single-minded view of the British Monarchy. The Monarchy are a huge chunk of British history. From the Ancient British Queen Boudicca, to the present Queen Elizabeth II. Boudicca defeated and drove out the Romans, Richard the Lionheart was the only king to retake Jerusalem for the Christians, Henry V had victories at Agincourt and Crecy. Henry VIII created the Royal Navy, Elizabeth ! defeated the Spanish Armada... (read next comment...)
...Victoria created the largest Empire history had ever seen. And Elizabeth II is soon to become Britains longest reigning monarch to name but a few. Without the British Royal Family, you effectivley wipe out half of Britains history. That is why it would be a travesty if the monarchy was lost. They are a vital part of British History, values and tradition. hey have saved this country from invasion, and brought it into countless renaissances. Money dosent come into the equation.
those who care a shit for our identity don't deserve my respect neither my time like this man,he doesn't care even a litle for a big part of british identity like the preservation of our race and the problems multiracialism will bring to UK
@gathighlights4 The royal wedding is not costing anywhere near 50 million and it is also predicted that it will earn far more then that for the economy as a whole.
UKIP is pro-monarchy? Wtf? I've watched a lot of their campaign videos. I would never have guessed this. So they advocate for the common man and against politicians but royalty is great? Royalty is even more useless!
And Nigel is going gaga over this circus act known as the royal wedding, 50 million bucks paid for by tax payers?
@gatorhighlights4 Im sure u know & understand that today's monarchy is one in which the queen doesn't have real powers, just cermonial. Nigel is spot on, the monarchy brings in huge income for Britain and adds to our rich culture and history. I dont like the idea of some sweaty old politician being placed in the possiton of a king without having had the life's training in behaving like a king. Sarkozy is a perfect example, constantly throwing his toy out of the pram if he doesnt get his way.
@NumberDne That's not true. She has powers, domestic and foreign. Now, some of those things she may never exercise but the power is there.
She's also Commander in Chief, if I'm not mistaken.
Point stands; UKIP very much mirrors American libertarians and, not surprisingly, they're just as hypocritical. They champion for the common man and complain about taxes but I guess as long as the tax payers are paying for royal weddings, it's ok.
@NumberDne Sweaty, old politician? Well, maybe they are sweaty and old but, guess what, you can elect or not elect those sweaty, old politicians. Who does the Queen represent? What real connection does she have to the British public? You're lying to yourself.
@gatorhighlights4 I don't think they're useless at all. The Queen has a number of legal personalities; she's part of the legislative, the executive, the judiciary and this makes her unable to act in any particular way because a decision would bind across all legal powers. But as a unifying figure, as a cultural draw and as head of the church and armed forces, I don't think she's useless at all.
