@jjohnson218 Why would you think that? Almost all of melvin's losses were by submission. He was choked out by fighters who aren't good grapplers (example Josh Neer). Melvin only has a blue belt in BJJ. Clay beats up wrestlers and BJJ BB fighters. They both became a lot smarter fighers, but clay's conditioning is probably the best in mma. Melvin's takedown defense has improved, but Clay is an elite wrestler! I don't think Guillard is at that level yet, although the potential is definitely there.

@TreeTrunk82 if melvin guillard trained on his ground game he would probably be one of the most dangerous fighters there, but i have to disagree on clay guida, clay guida showed tremendous cardio in his fights, but the problem is guida doesn't have the speed that melvin has and its one of melvins biggest tools, guida could probably take guillard down but how long would he hold him there is the question, people can say guida has a chin but it wouldn't be enough when guillard decked him in the jaw

@diablo2items Finally, somebody with a good response. More than just "melvine would stomp guida". Rich clementi doesn't have Guillard's speed. He just fought a better fight than guillard and beat him. I wouldn't under-estimate Guida's speed or strength. Remember what he did to Rafael dos anjos' jaw? Guida also took out (highly-ranked) Anthony Pettis.... easily! A well-rounded fighter, with elite grappling, almost always beats a one dimensional elite striker!

@TreeTrunk82 ya but rafeal dos anjos ground game hasn't been tested by other high level grapplers, he beat anthony pettis who is well rounded, but anthony pettis isn't really that great on the ground, he learnes the ground game but its not strong enough to stop takedowns like guillard or get back up fast like guillard, guillards athleticism is at a higher level than most lightweights, pettis beat henderson but because henderson doesn't push pressure, guillard has outstanding sprawl too.

Shane Roller couldn't take him down, Evan Dunham couldn't either. All Guida does is hug you for three rounds, but he can't do that to Melvin.

@geopine280 Edgar is also a more well rounded fighter. Edgar (a brown belt BJJ & NCAA Division I wrestler) vs. Guillard (a BJJ blue belt). Edgar is fast & has better technique. When Edgar strikes, he comes in from all angles. Guillard has speed & is improving his technique. Guillard is a good striker (perhaps more of a counter puncher). It would be a great stand up war, but I would have to give this fight to edgar via ground & pound or submission! Remember, this is MMA not K-1! Edgar is amazing!
