Raltomonte - I am trying to fit my putter with a new grip. I think I am gona need to pack the grip as its loose on the shaft. What is the best method/materials for doing this? Any ideas?
Nail polish remover will work. Also, if you leave the tape that's under the old grip, you will simply get a fatter grip once you put your new double sided tape over it. No biggie but it all depends on what you're looking for in grip girth.
I would not suggest paint thinner as it can discolor the grip quickly as a lot of models have paint fill as part of their decorative pattern. Nearly all the solvents that could work to install grips are highly flammable and may leave an odor that will linger with the grip for a long time.
I did this tonight and it was really, really simple. You don't need a vise, heat gun or the scraper knife. I didn't have to scrape any tape off the clubs after cutting off the old grips.
ye the liquid in the bottle is called grip solvent. What it does is when it's poured on the outside of the tape activates the stickyness! So the grip will then glue to the tape. Hope this helps

Does anyone use paint thinner (mineral spirits) instead of the grip solvent? Does it work the same?

@prorobo That's all the club pro at my course uses and there never seems to be any problems.

@loopba How did you get the old tape off then? Did you just wet it and peel it off?
prorobo 9 months ago
@prorobo It just came off with the grip, was stuck to it or something

mineral spirits works well as a solvent and so will lighter fluid for a zippo. Ive changed my grips since I was 14.

you probably didnt clean the shaft after you took the old tape off, watch my video, it shows it closer, and a little easier.
