@jayjaycorleone Hmm...! It matches what I hear. I do listen to recordings with earphones/headphones when doing MPC, though, which sometimes may change how well you hear the bass range and stuff; I'm not sure whether that's where the discrepancy comes from.
@NorseFTX Oh, right, and the fact that there are 5 notes per line; sometimes I had to just leave out the percussion to fit all the harmony that was going on in this piece. This piece has so much going on =P
@jayjaycorleone If it helps, the boats represent the snare drums (I did embellish a little bit at the beginning), while the mushrooms represent the bass drums. The bass is a lot louder in the original, but is almost barely there in this version (mainly because I can't get the mushrooms to go as low or to echo the way it does in the original)--was that what was missing? I did listen about 10 times just now back and forth from the original and this, and at the core, they...should match. I think.
...Aah!! You're right! You're absolutely right! I'm putting an extra roll of the drum after the 2nd beat, when the original only has the drum in the offbeat after the 3rd of each measure! Ah..hah hah...hmm....
Maybe we can just call this a remix instead? =P
Very nice catch. I guess I was just a little too enthusiastic with my percussion in this piece.
@NorseFTX And yes, because I start the percussion a quarter note early, the percussion (at least the snare drum portion) is ahead by one quarter note. (That's if we take this piece in 4/4, with each car at the beginning representing one quarter note)
To be honest, I never liked Kingdom Hearts. I just found the idea of Disney and Square combining weird (Yeah, just because of the characters I didn't like the game, but I loved the gameplay)... But this sounds great. Definitely one of your best.
in the original version i like how the "aha"s get more intense like, aha aha ahA aHA AHA AHA AHA AHA AHA AHA AHA AHA,then the best part comes in.Destatiii Destatiii vos-a-he-me-vo-MA-vo-ha
I finally heard this piece in-game today - wow. What a properly addictive and adrenalating Final Boss theme... sure, I took the ultra-cheap way out and block-countered him with 8 Curagas as my commands, but it was still a great fight.
As for your reproduction, it's a wonderful start to what I hope will be a good run of Shimomura's pieces. You focused on the important parts of the tune, which is good, but also kept the driving rhythm and the fullness intact - excellent choices. And only 640!!
It's actually called "dismiss," or something like that, but great jobs!

This is so awesome!!! It's so full sounding even without the extra ambiance of the 2.0 instruments.
