this was good thanks. the first time my chicken was wayyy too tender. it was like rubber. i think i used too much bourbon. this recipe came out better when i didn't let it sit for too long.
what happens if i use bourbon and cola? (premixed drink) has anyone tried it? I'm from new zealand and we dont have bourbon chicken. An american friend of mine was talking about it and I really want to try it. It looks amazing! But I dont even know what its supposed to taste like :S
Can something non-alcoholic be used in place of the bourbon? BTW love your channel....you really do a great instructional video. My 10 year old daughter and I made your Honey Walnut Chicken last night and it was out of this world delicious. Thank you!
@MotoXwife The bourbon actually gives this dish most of it's flavor; and the alcohol burns off as it boils. You could use chicken broth or vegetable broth in place of it if you wish, but it will change the flavor a bit.
Thank you so much for trying my recipes and writing - I really appreciate all your comments :)
@Talisa20 Bourbon is an alcoholic beverage, like vodka and gin. When you cook with it the alcohol burns off and you are left with just the flavor added to the dish :)
I did the recipe while it did not taste like the bouron chicken at the mall, my end result was great. I added onions and mushrooms to the stir frying and layed it over a bed of white rice and it was so delicious! Thanx for the recipe keep up the great work...
@GoGETTER2001 Olive oil tends to smoke at high temperatures and would most likely burn before the chicken is cooked in this recipe. Vegetable oil or canola oil would work well as a substitute :)
I didnt like it all that much.. it was just OK but it cannot be compared to the bourbon chicken thats at my local mall.. I want so desperatly to find a recipe for that and tried this to see and it's not the same..
I tried this recipe and was really looking forward to it, but was very disappointed. The I measured everything per the printout on the website. The bourbon had an overpowering flavor. I'm thinking it's because I left it marinating for 2 days (I was busy). Could this be the reason it was so strong?
@migdaliaaccius It may be due to the longer marinade time; but also I've had other's who did not bring the marinade to a full boil. This will also cause it to be strong in flavor as well :)
the video says 2 tsp. of cornstarch but the recipe on bellaonline says 1 tsp. which is it? would like to know since I just ordered the thick soy sauce.
@fathermerrindude Oh I"m sorry - This has been up for a long time and no one has ever noticed this - it is 2 tsp - thank you so much for pointing this out :)

Lila, thick soy sauce would be very hard to find in Greece, where i live. Is there something i could substitute? More sory sauce and a little bit of honey for example? Thanks!
@pandmonium2k7 using a wisk helps to dissolve sugar better than just stirring, no need to heat the marinate because its going to be heated later so anything that didnt combine before would definitely combine then

Although dark meat does have a little more flavor, I always prefer the breast meat simply b/c it's healthier. You could use either in this recipe :)
For this recipe you can substitute the thick soy with 3/4 tsp of molasses and 1/4 tsp regular soy :)
